DT 1 staat van 3 t/m 25 februari 2022 in Den Haag, Rotterdam, Amsterdam en Groningen met Traces left within. Het programma bestaat uit Toss of a Dice van Jiří Kylián en wereldpremières van Marco Goecke en Marina Mascarell. Karakteristieke, diverse choreografische stijlen, verbonden in hun ongeremde aanpak.

Voor Traces left within creëert de associate choreographer van NDT met de dansers een nieuw werk. Goecke: “I can’t wait to be back in The Hague. NDT is my second home, the dancers know immediately what I am looking for and once again we will create our own universe.”
De wereldberoemde choreograaf Jiří Kylián daagt dansers uit eerlijk en oprecht te spreken met hun lichamen. Zijn kenmerkend emotionele en energieke stijl wordt uitgedrukt met sensuele, intieme gebaren. Voor Traces left within werkt Kylián opnieuw met de dansers aan zijn Toss of a Dice, dat in 2006 voor het laatst door NDT werd opgevoerd. Het ballet is geïnspireerd op het werk van ‘sculptor of the wind’ Susumu Shingu – Kylián noemt zijn beelden ‘dansers van de eeuwigheid’ – en op het gelijknamige gedicht van Stéphane Mallarmé.
Marina Mascarells werken zijn poëtisch, sociaal-politiek en intiem. De choreografieën van de voormalige NDT-danser zijn vaak een spel van het herkennen van patronen om die vervolgens te overwinnen. Mascarell: “Ik geloof dat theater je verbeeldingskracht moet laten vliegen. Ik twijfel altijd aan gevestigde ideeën, manieren en problemen. Dat is wat mij beweegt om te creëren.” Dit wordt Marina’s eerste choreografie voor NDT 1. NDT is benieuwd hoe de combinatie met een live orkest haar werk verder zal ontwikkelen.

De voorstellingen in Den Haag zijn onderdeel van het Holland Dance Festival en worden live begeleid door Het Balletorkest.
“THEATRE SHOULD LET YOUR IMAGINATION RUN WILD” NDT 1 dances works by Kylián, Goecke and Mascarell in Traces Left Within The Nederlands Dans Theater 1 will be in The Hague, Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Groningen from February 3 to 25 with Traces left within. The program consists of Toss of a Dice by Jiří Kylián and world premières by Marco Goecke and Marina Mascarell. The world-famous choreographer Jiří Kylián challenges dancers to make their bodies speak honestly. His distinctively emotional and energetic style is expressed through sensual, intimate gestures. For Traces left within, Kylián again works with the dancers on his Toss of a Dice, which was last performed by NDT in 2006. The ballet is inspired by the work of ‘sculptor of the wind’ Susumu Shingu – Kylián calls his sculptures ‘dancers of eternity’ – and the poem of the same name by Stéphane Mallarmé. The work of the German choreographer Marco Goecke stimulates the nerves of dancers and audience with his lightning-fast, nervous fluttering and razor-sharp movements. The choreographies of the former NDT dancer are often a game of recognizing patterns and then overcoming them. Mascarell: “I believe that theatre should let your imagination run wild. I always question established ideas, manners, and problems. That is what moves me to create.” This will be Marina’s first choreography for NDT 1. NDT
is curious how the combination with a live orchestra will work out for future projects. The performances in The Hague are part of the Holland Dance Festival and are accompanied live by Het Balletorkest.
