Nissan “Kicks” in, “Juke” fades

Nissan, Bahrain launched Kicks, at their showroom. Bahrain enjoys pride of place in the launch of this product, said the newly appointed Nissan and Infinity General Manager, Robert Beaty. The product has only been launched in Brazil, where it had an upbeat reception Beaty said. The GCC region witnesses the next launch and it is still early days,” he added. The car unveiling was done by Mohammed Farouk Al Moayyed, Chairman and Managing Director, Al Moayyed International Group. Kicks’ in with two models -- the SV and the SL. The contours, design, compactness, ease of parking and the pleasant colours are sure to pull in the buyers, the showroom expects. Both the models come in light silver, dark grey, chocolate brown, cherry red and orange. The models are priced at BD6,500 on the road for the SV and BD7,750 for SL. Kicks packs the punch of a utility vehicle, while at the same time drawing its compactness into the small car space in parking. New technology incorporated makes parking easier. Beaty told the GAZ magazine that Nissan, considered a leader in crossover vehicles, plans to keep adding to the portfolio. Very akin to the model itself, the general manager had only joined the organisation a few hours prior to the launch. Talking about Kicks, Beaty said, the new model is expected to be stylish, funky and a city bred. Commenting on its resemblance to the Juke, Beaty said, Kicks is built on the success of its predecessor. “We are capitalising on the success of Juke in Bahrain.” The first model to implement the concept of Nissan Intelligent Mobility,

6

presented at the Geneva Auto Show in 2016, Kicks’ power is rated at 88kW (118HP) and torque of 149Nm. The Nissan Intelligent Mobility technology aims to reduce stress for drivers through innovations such as the Around View Monitor (AVM) and the Moving Object Detection system (MOD). Using four cameras, placed at the front and rear of the car and in both door mirrors, AVM creates a bird’s eye 360-degree view of the car.

When the MOD system detects a moving object ñ a pedestrian, for example ñ a warning is sounded to alert the driver to the hazard and prevent a potential accident. The kicks chassis is supported by advanced electronic systems known as Active Trace Control, Active, Ride Control and Active Engine Brake. The Kicks boasts a generous 200mm ground clearance, giving the driver a clear all round visibility.

Patrol NISMO takes Wheels ‘Best SUV’ crown

The Nissan Patrol NISMO was awarded ‘SUV of the Year’ at the Wheels Car of the Year ceremony. At the publication’s annual Car of the Year (COTY) awards, the Patrol NISMO was labelled the strongest vehicle in desert capability, on-road performance and comfort.

12

“Patrol leaves them in the dust,” explained the judges in the award citation. “The 5.6-litre V8 is mated to a slick seven-speed automatic. It was poked and prodded to deliver more performance, and with all four wheels digging in for added traction, along with its off-road ability still intact, this is actually three cars rolled into one. It’s a brilliant family car with loads of room for seven adults.” The NISMO is no stranger to such high praise. Since the model was introduced to the Gulf market in 2015, its on- and offroad capabilities have drawn plaudits from journalists and owners alike. Samir Cherfan, Managing Director of Nissan Middle East expressed delight at the award. When you take a vehicle as dear to the hearts of Gulf motorists as the Patrol, and decide to produce a NISMOtuned performance version, you must get it right,” he said. Patrol NISMO is part of a line-up of three vehicles from the tuning, performance and motorsport division of Nissan. The remaining two are the 370Z NISMO and the GT-R NISMO.

McLaren 720S unveiled at Geneva McLaren Automotive, the British manufacturer of luxury, high-performance sports and super cars, debuted its 720S at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show, thus introducing the secondgeneration of McLarenís Super Series. The new 720S is now available to order from McLaren Bahrain. The new 720S is lighter, faster and even more dynamically capable than its predecessor, McLaren 650S. At first glance, the 720S identifies as a bold reinterpretation of McLarenís design language; rooted in aerodynamic principles. The beautiful form has nothing superfluous. The new 720S is arguably the most distinctive and remarkable McLaren yet. A highlight in the design is the absence of radiator intakes on the side of the car. This function is carried out instead by the unique ëdouble-skiní aerodynamic form of the dihedral doors, which channel air to the high-temperature radiators that cool the mid-mounted engine.

Porsche 911 GT3 for the road and racetrack. The Porsche 911 GT3, which debuted at the Geneva Motor Show, delivers motorsport-like performance, a systematic lightweight construction and an unfiltered driving experience. In its new generation, the connection between everyday driving and the racetrack is more intense. At the heart of the enhanced model is a four-litre flat, sixcylinder engine. The extremely high-revving naturally aspirated unit, with 500 hp (368 kW), remains unchanged from the thoroughbred 911 GT3 Cup racing car. A redesigned chassis with rear-axle steering and the systematic lightweight construction are specifically tuned to convert the engine power into superior driving dynamics.

16

Most Porsche GT drivers prefer to take on the racetrack. Here the 911 GT3 comes into its own. Its power-to-weight ratio is 2.86 kg/hp (3.88 kg/kW). The sevenspeed double-clutch transmission (PDK) used as standard, is specifically for the GT. The two-seater can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, boasting a top speed of 318 km/h. The overall weight is 1,430 kg (with a full tank of fuel). The Porsche also offers the 911 GT3 with a six-speed sports manual gearbox, for proponents of unadulterated driving, delivering 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 320 km/h. The chassis of the 911 GT3 benefits from Porsche’s motor racing experience. The car sits around 25 mm lower than the 911 Carrera S. In addition to the further

refined basic design, the chassis also boasts superior handling characteristics, due to the active rear-axle steering. Depending on the speed, it steers either in the opposite or the same direction as the front wheels, thereby improving the vehicle’s agility and stability. The dynamic engine mounts and the rear differential lock also boost the car’s driving dynamics. The 911 GT3’s dominant carbon rear wing emphasises the sportscar’s aerodynamic form. The lightweight front end and front spoiler have been optimised for an even better airflow. The interior is tailored to the 911 GT3 driving experience. The sports steering wheel, with a diameter of 360 mm, originates from the 918 Spyder. Both the driver and passenger experience the dynamics in Porsche Sports seats Plus featuring enhanced seat side bolsters and mechanical fore/aft adjustment. The seat height and backrests are adjusted electronically. The adaptive sports seats plus boast electrical adjustment of all seat functions (18-way). The second option is sports bucket seats with folding backrest, integrated thorax airbag and manual fore/aft adjustment. The third variant is full bucket seats made from light carbon fibre-reinforced plastic in carbon-weave finish.

Gulf Craft: AED 300 M yachts on show at dibs

All eyes were on Gulf Craft at the Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS). The pioneering Emirates-based shipyard impressed guests with the largest fleet of yachts and boats on display, collectively worth well over AED 300 million and accounting for more than 20 per cent of the total value of leisure craft on exhibit at the show. The industry trailblazer also announced multiple global debuts across its diverse portfolio of seaworthy innovations. Celebrating 35 years of craftsmanship, Gulf Craft presented a stunning collection of 16

20

luxury yachts and leisure boats, including six superyachts and three global debuts, signifying the builder’s strongest-ever presence at the region’s premier leisure marine event. Gulf Craft’s record-breaking participation comes hot on the heels of the shipyard’s string of showcases in Europe, including boot Dusseldorf, where the company recently announced its exclusive partnership with globally recognized luxury yacht dealer, Drettmann International. At the Monaco Yacht Show, the builder announced its plans to venture into the exciting world of megayachts through its two 50m+ projects, the Majesty 175 and

Majesty 200. “Our coral anniversary comes at a very exciting time for the industry, one characterised by an increased worldwide demand for exclusive luxury cruising. In the last 35 years, we have manufactured almost 10,000 yachts and boats, delivered them to clients all around the world, and invested more than AED 500 million in research and development and across our facilities,” said Mohammed Hussein Al Shaali, Chairman of Gulf Craft. “Our selection today represents all the different experiences boat owners can have on water, and we will continue to invest

heavily in research and development, product innovation, and aftercare solutions to enhance onboard comfort and deliver a seamless ownership experience to our customers.” The latest edition of the builder’s 47-meter flagship Majesty 155 was the star of the show, making its first-time appearance in the region, and standing magnificently as the largest craft on display in the superyacht category (24 – 50 meters in overall length). A ‘floating palace’ by comparison, the Majesty 155 combines refined elegance and class with unmatched hospitality, allowing its passengers to confidently – and luxuriously – cruise to the furthest corners of the globe. This excellence in craftsmanship echoes through Gulf Craft’s entire collection, including its most recent masterpiece, the Majesty 100. Making its global debut at the Dubai International Boat Show, the Majesty 100 is the first in Gulf Craft’s superyacht collection to have a partially enclosed flybridge. This unique feature allows guests sitting within its spacious lounge area to enjoy breathtaking views of the vast seascape – as though they are seated in a traditional fly-bridge, but with the added luxury and comfort offered by indoor living. Those looking for some fresh air can simply slide down the glass panels and open the folding doors fully, enabling immediate and seamless access to the outdoors.

With stunning exterior, interior, and naval architecture and design courtesy Gulf Craft’s very own in-house Design Studio, the complete layout of the Majesty 100 is based on the principles of maximizing space and stretching the outdoor experience through to the interior. Sweeping floor-to-ceiling windows allow natural light to flow copiously through the superyacht’s main deck, and two hydraulic extendable balconies fixed on both ends of the back-seating area offer passengers an effortless al-fresco experience while still having quick and immediate access to the craft’s main indoor living and entertainment areas. The superyacht boasts 5 en suite staterooms that can accommodate up to 12 guests for overseas cruising.

Powered by two 1,900 hp MAN engines, the Majesty 100 can travel at a maximum nautical speed of 23 knots. The craft’s superior engineering and hull design makes the Majesty 100 a very fuel-efficient superyacht, allowing it to travel even longer distances. Moreover, the fleet on display will also have the second addition of the globally recognized Majesty 110, Gulf Craft’s youngest tri-deck. The Majesty 110, which was launched last year at the Dubai International Boat Show, welcomes 14 guests in 6 spacious staterooms. Guests can visit Gulf Craft at stand MD30 at the Dubai International Boat Show, which takes place until 4 March at the Dubai International Marine Club, Mina Seyahi.

Only Rolls-Royce, with the skilled craftspeople residing in its paintshop, could have created a paint made from 1,000 crushed diamonds. Named ëDiamond Stardustí, this is the

most luxurious and lustrous exterior ever seen on a motor car, and the most expensive paint to grace the body of a Rolls-Royce. Commissioned for an individual collector, this unique motor car took the term Bespoke to the next level. The exclusive paint was created by the craftspeople at the home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood by subjecting 1,000 ethically-sourced diamonds to a special process. This process saw the diamonds go through extensive testing to ensure their radiance when used in a paint. Goodwoodís Technical Laboratory Leader, Paolo Travaglia, and his team of paint specialists, Rawdon Evernden and Joseph Piotrowski, spent two months of concentrated testing to achieve the perfect result. Examining the dimensions of the precious stones with the use of

a high-powered microscope, the team carefully analysed their transmission and reflection of light. The density and strength of the diamonds created a challenge for the team to produce an easy marriage with the clear paint and its ability to spread gracefully over a surface, leaving the diamonds undetectable to the touch. The process resulted in the creation of a very fine diamond powder, then mixed into the paint. Additionally, a new and unique paint process was developed, including the application of an extra final layer of lacquer to protect the diamond particles during the handpolishing process. This process added an extra two days of paint application by hand and a further day of finishing. Applied to the top section of the car, the paint finish glistens like no other,

making this a motor car to be recognised and appreciated. Just like its owner, the car exudes unapologetic luxury and grandeur. The final elegant exterior touches to this one off Rolls-Royce Ghost have been applied by master coachline painter, Mark Court, with a squirrel-hair paint brush. The flanks of the motor car are accented with Mugello Red and Black twin coachlines. To enhance the exterior further, the centre of the 21 inch wheels are hand-painted with a Mugello Red pinstripe. Last but not least, at the prow of the car, showcased in all her glory, an uplit Spirit of Ecstasy guides this unique Rolls-Royce, and its owner, into the future. The interior of this unique Rolls-Royce Ghost also communicates the elegant tastes of its owner. Chauffeur and passenger areas are clearly demarcated as in the early days of luxury motoring. The chauffeurís ëcockpití features black leather seats with accents of Mugello Red stitching on the doors, and piping on the seats. The colour black is continued in the lustrous carpet and lambswool footmats. The detailed fascia of smooth open pore Tudor Oak veneer is also complemented with a Mugello Red single stitch along the top of the dashboard, and finished with a Bespoke clock.

Oman Sail for Class 40 Challenge

Oman Sail has revealed a new adventure for 2017 as the pioneering national initiative takes on a double-handed Class 40 challenge pairing up mentor and long-term skipper of various Oman Sail projects, Frenchman Sidney Gavignet, with his protégé and Oman Sail’s most successful offshore sailor, Fahad Al Hasni. Gavignet and Al Hasni will take on some of the world’s best shorthanded sailors in an ambitious programme that – all going well – will culminate in the Transat Jaques Vabre transatlantic race in November. The new campaign is the latest stage of the relationship between Al Hasni, one of Oman’s most promising sailors, and Gavignet, his mentor for the past six years. The duo raced together as part of Oman Sail’s MOD70 trimaran crew on MusandamOman Sail, a pairing that saw them set three world records over the course of a few years. Al Hasni will begin the campaign fresh from leading his Team Renaissance crew to a runner-up spot in EFG Sailing Arabia – The Tour, a 763-nautical mile race around the Arabian Gulf. Oman Sail’s Class 40 programme will see them take on the Grand Prix Guyader next month, the Normandy Channel Race in May, Les Sables – Horta in July and the legendary Rolex Fastnet Race in August. If the training and racing has gone well and

28

the crew development is at a high level, the season will conclude with the Transat Jacques Vabre, a 3,000-mile race from Le Havre in France to Salvador in Brazil in November. With Oman Sail’s underlying objective of developing Omani sailors front of mind, the pair will be joined on their 40ft race boat by another MOD70 regular, Sami Al Shukaili for deliveries and crewed races. “The Class 40 is a class with a busy programme and an ultra-competitive fleet and that’s rare in the offshore sailing world today,” said Gavignet, one of France’s top shorthanded sailors. “It is the perfect tool to learn and build experience, and to ultimately make good sailors. When you have to do everything yourself it forces you to learn quickly and thoroughly. “Our goal this year is to learn as much as we can as quickly as we can!” Al Hasni added: “Both Sami and I are really excited to begin this next phase of our sailing careers. Shorthanded sailing is a new discipline for us but in Sidney we have the best teacher you could ask for. It is a very competitive fleet so our learning curve will be steep!” The 2017 European season also sees the return of Oman Sail’s Diam 24 campaign for the Tour de France a la Voile led by well-known French sailor and Oman Sail regular, Thierry Douillard. The unique set-up will see the most promising sailors from Oman Sail’s programme to develop home-grown talent train and race with some of the biggest names in the sport. Douillard’s Diam 24 crew will include fellow Frenchman and former match racing world champion Mathieu Richard, British former Olympian Stevie Morrison, and Omani sailors Ali Al Balushi and Abdulhaman Al Mashari. A second crew led by Cedric Pouligny and featuring upcoming Omanis Yasser Al Rhabi, Raad Al Hadi, Akram Al Waibi and Haitham Al Waibi will train alongside Douillard’s team prior to the start of the season. The first event for the Diam 24 squad will be Le Grand Prix Atlantique in Pornichet, France, from March 31 to April 2. The season goal is to better their 2016 fifthplace finish in the Tour de France a la Voile, a coastal race taking in nine French cities starting in July. “It’s going to be a full-on season that will be tighter than last year so we’re going to have to work hard,” Douillard said. “Our ultimate goal is to finish on the podium in the Tour de France a la Voile but we will give everything we have at each event we compete in. That much is for sure!”

Bahrain wins Audi Q2 Mid-east launch

The Audi Q2 had its Midle East launch at the Amway Majla, a rendezvous for artists and other creative birds. It is already available at dealerships in the region. The “untaggable” as it was called, flexed its muscles from the word ‘Go’. With broad shoulders and angular styling, the Q2 was brimming with energy and confidence. Q2 customers can customise the look of their car in many levels. Add-on parts, which vary according to the trim line, give the SUV a sporty or typical off -road appearance. The two lines design and sport are positioned above the base car. The Q2 is even further differentiated in the design selection or the S line sport package. The S line exterior package highlights the agile stature of the SUV. Customisation of internal colours include yellow, orange and red. Inlays are available in white plastic or brushed aluminum. Seat upholstery choices range from high-end fabrics to fine Nappa leather. At night, the optional LED lighting package makes the interior especially attractive. In the top version, LED light guides illuminate the sculpted inlays at the front of the instrument panel and the center console with homogeneous light. Drivers can use the MMI to choose from

30

ten colors. The low roofline and high window line give the sporty car a coupelike look and a crouching stance on the road. The wedge-shaped headlights, the high position of the singleframe grille and the generously sized air inlets add to the male looks. The rear body has a taut appearance with a long roof spoiler and a diffuser with an underbody protection look. The driver’s seat position is sporty, but all-round visibility is very good, said the company as is typical of an SUV. In both connectivity and infotainment, the Q2 offers technologies from the full-size class. The driver can use the optional touchpad to scroll through a clearly structured menu, while passengers can surf and stream with smart-phones, said the company representative. Offering assistance in critical situations is the standard emergency braking assistant. If a child were to suddenly run into the street, or the car ahead were to brake abruptly to a stop, the Q2 can brake automatically. With short overhangs and 15 cm of ground clearance the Q2 scrambles up slopes effortlessly. The permanent all-wheel drive system supplies the necessary traction and grip. It is standard with the

top gasoline engine. The engine is paired with a newly developed seven-speed automatic. At lightning speed, the dualclutch transmission changes gears and offers seamless driving pleasure. Audi is sending the Q2 to its launch with three TFSI engines between 116 hp and 190 hp of power output. The overhangs are short with a vehicle length of 4.19 meters and a wheelbase of 2.60 meters, which means it will fit in any parking space. The interior of the Q2, which takes up the taut and angular form language of the exterior, offers space for five. The four doors open wide, entry is comfortable and visibility is good, however seating positions for the driver and front passenger are sporty. Operating the Q2 is simple and ergonomic: The MMI screen is positioned high on the instrument panel as standard. Its size depends on the infotainment system that is ordered. Its functions are controlled by a rotary/push-button control, two buttons and two rocker switches on the center tunnel. Audi virtual cockpit is available as an alternative to the easy-to-read analog instruments.

Its 12.3-inch screen displays highly detailed, brilliant graphics and offers two display modes. One focuses on the tachometer and speedometer, and the other emphasizes infotainment and/or navigation data. The view is changed using the multifunction steering wheel. In addition to the fully digital instrument cluster and top infotainment system, a third technology from the full-size class has been implemented -- the head-up display. It projects important information onto a glass panel in the driverĂs direct field of vision. Audi pre sense front uses radar to recognize hazardous situations that can occur with crossing pedestrians or other vehicles in front of the car. The system warns the driver and initiates hard braking if necessary Ăą down to a standstill at low speeds. Audi offers a selection of three engines for the Q2 - three TFSI whose power outputs range from 116 hp to 190 hp. The engine program follows the principle of rightsizing. This is about striking the perfect balance between vehicle class, engine displacement, power output, torque and efficiency behaviour in everyday conditions. Engine displacements for the new Audi Q2 are 1.0, 1.4 and 2.0 liters.

AMR - TAKING ASTON MARTIN TO NEW EXTREMES

Aston Martin has chosen the 2017 Geneva Motor Show to launch AMR - an exciting new brand that brings a new dimension of race inspired dynamism and performance. Reflecting Aston Martin’s racing pedigree, AMR takes technology and inspiration from motorsport to amplify the sporting prowess present across the model range. With enhanced performance, sharper dynamics and more powerful design language, AMR takes Aston Martin’s road cars to new and exciting extremes. The AMR brand follows in the wheeltracks of successive iconic Aston Martin road cars which boasted top-level racing pedigree. In the mid-1930s the success of Aston Martin’s Team Cars in the Ulster TT road race led the marque to build further examples of the lightweight two-seater for sale to the public. In 1951, Sir David Brown introduced uprated and highly desirable ‘Vantage’ specification models, and steered the marque to an historic outright win at Le Mans with the iconic DBR1 in 1959. Since the formation of Aston Martin Racing (AMR) in 2004 Aston Martin has enjoyed success in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), winning the 2016 FIA WEC GT Drivers Championship, while also securing three class victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans over this period. Similarly, Aston Martin Racing’s GT3 and GT4 racers have secured countless victories and championship titles around the world.

34

Two AMR concepts have been unveiled in Geneva: The Rapide AMR and Vantage AMR Pro. The Rapide represents the first tier of AMR, enhancing the four-door sports car with a comprehensive suite of power, chassis and styling upgrades, plus a spectacular new interior treatment. The Vantage AMR Pro - heavily influenced by Aston Martin Racing’s WEC winning V8 Vantage GTE - is the pinnacle; an uncompromising demonstration of AMR’s ‘Track to Tarmac’ philosophy whereby race technology is transferred to road cars. While future development of the core AMR models will be part of Aston Martin’s central vehicle engineering teams, development of all AMR Pro models will be led by Q by Aston Martin Advanced Operations. This highly-skilled department - managed

by Aston Martin’s VP and Chief Special Operations Officer, David King - already has extensive experience of creating extreme Aston Martins, with recent projects including the Vantage GT12, Vantage GT8 and Aston Martin Vulcan. Underlining Aston Martin’s commitment to its new high-performance brand, AMR’s European development and brand centre will be based at Aston Martin’s state-of-the-art Nürburgring Test Centre, which is situated within sight of the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife race track. Marek Reichman, Aston Martin EVP and Chief Creative Officer, says that the AMR brand was a logical next step after the ’soldout’ success of limited edition sporting

versions like the Vantage GT8 and Vantage GT12: “Each time we have pushed the boundaries and done something extreme, the customers have loved the cars. AMR enables us to take Aston Martin into a new dimension. One where we can turn-up the sporting DNA present in all of our models and make a true statement. An AMR model will have an instantly recognisable design language. One that accentuates and amplifies, together with the latest GT race car technology for the road. They will be special and rare cars that are credible, thrilling to drive and hugely desirable to own.” Rapide AMR A striking presence on the Aston Martin stand, the Rapide AMR provides a dynamic and visual blueprint for future AMR models. Featuring a 600PS version of Aston Martin’s celebrated 6.0-litre naturally aspirated V12 breathing through a new quad exhaust system, it is the world’s fastest and most thrilling four-door, capable of 210MPH. Resplendent in AMR’s signature Stirling Green with vibrant lime green accents, riding on new 21in alloy wheels and featuring a dramatic new full height signature grille, front splitter, side sills, rear diffuser and aero flip on the rear decklid, the Rapide AMR makes a striking statement. Extensive use of carbon fibre detailing on the exterior provide the perfect finishing touches. The interior is equally breathtaking. Lightweight carbon fibre front seats,

trimmed throughout in Dark Knight Alcantara with Lime Green accents and carbon fibre waterfall, centre console and door casings, ensure the Rapide AMR is a fabulous fusion of race car attitude with a luxurious crafted twist. Vantage AMR Pro The Vantage AMR Pro is an extreme, trackonly expression of performance and the ultimate iteration of the Vantage. Powered by a 507PS development of Aston Martin Racing’s GT4 race engine, the Vantage AMR Pro is the most powerful V8 Vantage ever. Race-spec adjustable suspension, competition engine and transmission mounts and new 19in x 9.5in front and 19in x 11.5in rear centre lock wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Cup 2 tyres, the Vantage AMR Pro promises inspirational handling precision and exceptional levels of grip and traction. This race car performance is matched by authentic motorsport styling. Once again painted in Stirling Green with lime green accents, the Vantage AMR Pro not only takes its colour scheme from Aston Martin Racing’s V8 Vantage GTE racer, but uses the same bonnet and rear wing as the World Endurance Championship winner. To compliment these authentic motorsport parts, Aston Martin’s design team has designed a new front bumper that incorporates a new bold full-height front grille, a new front valance and splitter, front

fenders, sill appliques and a revised rear diffuser. The racing theme continues inside, with extensive use of carbon fibre, lavish Dark Knight Alcantara upholstery with lime green accents and a custom roll cage designed by Q by Aston Martin. The result is a Vantage that looks as spectacular as it drives. Aston Martin’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Andy Palmer, was quick to confirm that both the Rapide AMR and Vantage AMR Pro concepts are set for production: “As passionate enthusiasts of Aston Martin’s competition pedigree, AMR is something we have wanted to bring to fruition for some time. Cars such as the Vantage GT8 and Vantage GT12 confirmed that our customers love raw, race-bred models, but we also knew there was an opportunity to create cars that offer a sharper performance focus but stop short of those truly hardcore, special series models. With the AMR brand we have the perfect platform to deliver both. As proof of that intent I’m incredibly excited to announce that we will be putting both the Vantage AMR Pro and Rapide AMR into production: the Vantage in an extremely limited series of no more than 7 cars; the Rapide as a run of only 210 cars. They are the start of something very exciting - a programme that will eventually see an AMR version of every model in the Aston Martin range”.

FEATURE I’m gonna race it to the ground Nobody gonna beat my car It’s gonna break the speed of sound Oooh it’s a killing machine It’s got everything Like a driving power big fat tyres and everything I love it and I need it,

The Nissan GT-R driven by young Bahraini entrepreneur Hussain Jaffar is just all that and more. In a chat with Gulf Auto Zone (GAZ), he admitted “The car means a lot to me. I enjoy every moment driving it. “It’s a beauty I drive daily. It flows smooth everywhere I want it and most of it, it is a head turner,” he added. Jaffar’s modified GT-R houses a vertically mounted VR38 Dett engine. The sheer power of 900 horses pulling it mesmerises. Creating the thrust are Diamond pistons, built for performance engines that take the hot cars, the world over. The connecting rods used by Jaffar came from Manley. The maintenance industry gave a huge high on these products.

38

The camshafts used are Kelford 272. These valves consist of a cylindrical rod running the length of the cylinder bank with a number of oblong lobes protruding from it, one for each valve. Ensuring the 900 horses pull and that efficiently for the GT-R is the Boost Logic BL 1000X turbo. The kit propels cars to mid 8 second passes on the quarter mile. Its balance of turbine and compressor wheels, keeps exhaust back pressure low and flow astronomical amounts of air. With an eye to creating such heavy horsepower in the engine and that even in the desert summer, Jaffar has used the Ams Alpha Performance Race intercooler.

He has given the gearing a lift originally not standard, with using the Sheptrans rebuild stage 2 transmission. That has meant, seamless gear change. The GTC titan 102mm exhaust, fitted on the GT-R is supposed to be much in line with the latest. The exhausts are expected to be light weight, and large bore size for best airflow, excellent fitment and design. The system features large mufflers for the perfect decibel pitch on idle and cruise. The ID1300x is an all new injector, designed with alternative fuels in mind. It remains perhaps the only performance injector available with all stainless internals. It is compatible with all known fuels, and will stand up to the corrosive nature of alcohol better than any injector on the market. The injector has a minimum fuel mass compatible with gasoline use, and will provide exceptional idle and cruise behavior. The car has dual pump fore innovations fuel system, Fore innovations F2i fuel pressure regulator, GT1R V2 fuel rail set†and a Cobb tuning accessport V3. Turning from the love of his life to the person he is, Jaffar said he has two children. In addition to being a diehard motorbike and cars enthusiast, the man also has a love for horses. His dream car, though is the Aventador SV, from the Lamborghini. The best modern car, according to him is the Bentley. The classic car, according to him is the Z240 Nissan. â€

Is there a more iconic car than the Dodge Charger? It has epitomised cool for the last 50 years. From Steve McQueen in Bullitt through to the Fast and Furious franchise and that crazy Dodge Charger R/T Toretto drives out of the plane the Charger is at home in the movies as much as Brad Pitt. I was lucky enough to take the beast out for a spin although it was more the car took me for a ride. First thing to note about the Charger is the variety basically you are like the car designer as you can basically have it any style and any colour possible. For example the SRT Hellcat, very aptly named, is the fastest, quickest and most powerful sedan ever made. It has a supercharged 6.2litre engine. The top speed is 328km/ph, can drive ¼ mile in 11 seconds flat. All that and it has 707 horsepower. Unfortunately I was driving the RT which felt powerful enough for me. The R/T has a 5.7 litre V8 engine with 370 horsepower. On the outside it looks like a typical Charger. You can add lots of different trims like the Daytona and Scat Pack until you find the one that’s right for you. Just looking at the car you know it’s going to be a fast ride. It definitely tips it hat to the original Charger. Inside it’s not as luxurious as other sedans

42

but then I don’t think people buy a Charger for the interiors. They buy one because they know it is going to be fun and a little wild. It is not a typical family car but then there is nothing typical about this car. It is very spacious especially in the front and then that just adds to the thrill of driving this car. One of my favourite non-performance improvements is the tech. It now has an 8.4” Uconnect touchscreen which is very responsive and the HD graphics are really strong. Now the most important thing. What is it like to drive? It is an amazing ride. There are lots of cars that have better this and that but this car is a real car. It doesn’t need any fancy gimmicks. It is a car that is cool. It is a car that is fun and most importantly if you love your muscle cars, if you love the sound of an engine roaring away contentedly then this my friend is the car for you. It is not a car that blends into the scenery this is a car that takes all the attention. I read a review of this car and some stuffy fool gave it a 3 star rating moaning about how you can’t see much out of the rear windscreen……. What are you missing? All you are going to see are other cars rapidly disappearing a bit of dust because this car is so fast and powerful that will be all you see. This car is a monster, a wild untamed beast. I love it.

The Renault Talisman, available as saloon and estate is a handsome French car. It handsome design makes it arguably one of the more attractive European cars in this segment. The range of engines begin from the efficient 1.5-litre diesel to a 200bhp turbocharged petrol. The Talisman, designed by Alexis Martot, who also designed the latest Koleos. The Talisman has a slightly exaggerated front and rear light cluster. It has a masculine look and talks Renault’s design language more fluently than anything else in the company’s stable. The interior is pretty coherent too. It is roomy enough for all passengers, a huge boot in the estate version and an all-round demi-premium feel. The Talisman is indeed a masterpiece, with a strong visual presence and one that connotes elegance. Its powerful haunches and prominent contours combine with the unique headlamp and tail lamp designs. With a choice of eight colours on offer, the Talisman was launched in the Middle East. It sports a Universal White lick of paint. But, the Talisman isnít just a pretty face. It is the widest sedan in its segment, measuring 4,850 meters in length and 1,870 meters in width. The eye-catching 8.7-inch infotainment dis-

46

play, embellishes the dashboard in a vertical layout in the higher trim levels, while a smaller 7-inch capacitive, horizontally-mounted touch screen makes its way into other models. As far as comfort goes, the Talisman offers best-in-class rear leg room to complement the wide, ventilated and massaged seats up front. Boot space in the Talisman measures at 608 liters, is in addition to the 25 liters of stowage within the cabin, and 30 liters over and above what its German rival, the Volkswagen Passat has to offer. A naturally aspirated 2.0-liter engine and a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine were available upon launch. The former gives out 140 horsepower and 193 Nm of torque when mated to a CVT transmission, while the latter dished out 190 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque through a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The Renault Talisman replaces the Safrane in the French-brand’s lineup. Under the hood, the Talisman gets two engines - a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine mated to a CVT and a turbocharged 1.6-litre motor connected to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Standard features on the base model of the Talisman include power steer-

ing, power windows, electric mirrors with demisting function, central locking, keyless entry, automatic dual zone A/C with rear vents, automatic wipers, steering wheel with audio/Bluetooth/voice command controls, and multi-information display. The SE model gets additional daytime running lamps, fog lamps, Renault Multi-Sense system, central jog-dial, speed limiter and cruise control, height adjustable passenger seat, electric folding side mirrors, Renault R-Link multimedia system with 7-inch touchscreen, navigation, 3D sound by Arkamys, 8 speakers, AM/ FM, 2 USBs, AUX, audio/photo streaming

via Bluetooth, voice command/recognition for phone, navigation, media and text-tospeech, refrigerated storage in front centre console armrest, rear power socket, higher quality upholstery and 17-inch alloy wheels. The 1.6TC SE model gets all of the above, plus engine start-stop, acoustic windscreen, smart engine management and twin chrome exhaust tips. Standard safety features on the model include front driver and passenger airbags, ABS, stability control, brake assist, hill-start assist and traction control.

Ferrari on pole after Australian win battle with Hamilton. He told awaiting media that the machinery remained almost the same machinery, and I hope it stays that way. Hamilton, though, could not pull off the dame dazzling performance of the past on the same track. Ferrari’s performance on the ultra-soft tyres helped overcome the pole position beginning Hamilton had. It is clear beyond doubt that Ferrariís restoration is real. It is a decade since Ferrari were last able to call themselves champions, but after several faltering campaigns, Vettelís Melbourne masterclass has revived confidence in F1ís most fabled marque. Wolff, who saw the Scuderia’s startling pace in winter testing, had said that Mercedes faced one big fight to retain their supremacy and this was a day that did nothing to contradict his logic.

Sebastian Vettel was all jubilation, almost picking his team manager, Britta Roeske, at having restored Ferrari to its by-now accustomed place at the Formula One. The other winner, Lewis Hamilton, however, was a picture pensive at the Albert Park. With Vettel on track, ahead of Hamilton after a decisive pit stop, the Mercedes team principal almost looked resigned. Mercedes, had for three years enjoyed its stranglehold over this sport. Ferrari, this time around wrenched it away with a display of exceptional pace and cunning. True to its iconic blast, the Prancing Horse had re-discovered a kick in its legs. Even more tantalisingly, the long-awaited battle between Vettel and Hamilton, two drivers who have won six of the last seven world titles between them, has at last begun to be drawn. The two, though rivals, duel it out in an atmosphere of intense mutual respect for now. Belatedly, on this evidence, the pair looked likely to be locked in combat for the next 19 races. The victory, Vettel could hardly contain, was writ large on his face. He said that he enjoyed a real

after winning the final Power Stage in a Hyundai i20. Ott Tänak maintained his consistent start to the campaign with fourth in another Fiesta, more than a minute clear of a frustrated Hayden Paddon. The Kiwi suffered several technical problems but this was still his best result of the season. Toyota Gazoo team-mates Latvala and Juho Hänninen finished sixth and seventh. An overheating engine and brake problems on his Yaris slowed Latvala, while his Finnish team-mate suffered sickness throughout the event. Dani Sordo, Elfyn Evans and WRC 2 winner Pontus Tidemand completed the leaderboard. The championship returns to Europe for round four next month. The Mediterranean island of Corsica hosts the Che Guevara Energy Drink Tour de Corse on 6 - 9 April, the first pure asphalt round of the year. A fourth career win seemed assured when Meeke carried a near-40sec lead over Sébastien Ogier into the final gravel road speed test in the mountains near León. But just 750 metres from the end of the four-day event, a mistake plunged his Citroën C3 through a hedge and into a spectator car park. A disoriented Meeke drove around parked vehicles urgently searching for a way back onto the road. He eventually spied a hole in the hedge, regained the track and limped to the finish with a puncture and fan safety tape trailing from his car.

Rains fail to dampen Qatar Moto GP

MotoGP 2017 blew the drama out of the rain washed circuit. The race distance had to be shortened to 20 laps, following the outburst of showers. The rains, however, could not damper the heat set by headline grabbing Maverick ViÒales with Andrea Dovizioso. ViÒales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) retains the position after his first win for Yamaha, outwitting Dovizioso (Ducati Team). Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) completed the podium in third after storming back from P10 on the grid. A stunning start from Andrea Iannone (Team Suzuki Ecstar) from P2 was soon overshadowed as rookie Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) slammed into the lead in the first laps, getting away and making a gap as ViÒales found himself falling back into the clutches of his teammate. But despite an incredible display, the fairytale came to an early end for the Frenchman as he slid out of the lead soon after ñ leaving ëDesmoDovií out front. With the Ducati 4 getting away in the lead, Iannone then crashed out of the fight for second ñ leaving reigning Champion Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team), ViÒales and Rossi chasing the

52

leading Desmosedici. After a classic scuffle between the number 46 and 93, the ëDoctorí set off in pursuit of his teammate. And then were the three: ViÒales, Dovizioso, and Rossi. It wasnít long, however, before there was some fresh air between lead two and the number 46 ñ with a duel setting in that saw ViÒalesí corner speed pitched against the sheer might of the Ducati. After trading places a few laps and the race impossible to call, the Spaniard was able to outmaneuver the Italian on the penultimate lap ñ and made it to the line to take his second MotoGP win; his first in Yamaha colours Marquez crossed the line fourth, just ahead of teammate Dani Pedrosa by the flag - who took fifth after getting the better of Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini). Espargaro’s result was a historic first top six for Aprilia in the stunning first ride in Noale colours for the rider from Granollers. Impressive performances from Scott Redding (Octo Pramac Racing) and Jack Miller (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) saw the two men come home in P7 and P8, with Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) top rookie in P9 ñ just ahead

of Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider Jonas Folger, who completed the top ten. Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team) went wide on the first lap after a solid start, down to near the back of the grid after carefully rejoining and then beginning a steady fight back through the field. Up into tenth with 12 laps to go, the ëSpartaní crossed the line in P11 by the end of play. Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) crashed out of contention before rejoining and then suffering the same fate, with Alvaro Bautista (Pull&Bear Aspar Team) crashing out soon after, as well as Octo Pramac Racing rider Danilo Petrucci joining Iannone and Zarco on the list of unluckies in round one, but sure to be back for more next time out. The paddock now heads to Argentina and Termas de Rio Hondo ñ from April 7th†to 9th. The first independent team rider was Aleix EspargarÛ (SPA - Aprilia) (6). Morbidelli uncatchable and unflappable in Qatar, After a year of incredible podium performances in 2016, Franco Morbidelli (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) started off 2017 in stunning style ñ with his first win in Moto2. 2016 Qatar winner and key rival Tom L¸thi (CarXpert Interwetten) crossed the line in second,

with Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) completing the podium in an exciting taster of what could be to come in the 2017 Championship fight. Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo) took an impressive first podium for the new KTM chassis, followed home by EG 0,0 Marc VDS rider Alex Marquez, who crossed the line in fifth after an early challenge for the podium.

poleman Jorge Martin (Del Conca Gresini Moto3) completing the podium. Aron Canet (EG 0,0), Romano Fenati (Marinelli Rivacold Snipers), Andrea Migno (Sky Racing Team VR46), Niccolo Antonelli (Red Bull KTM Ajo), Fabio DiGiannantonio (Del Conca Gresini Moto3), Marcos Ramirez (Platinum Bay Real Estate) and Adam Norrodin (SIC Racing Team) kept it clean after

impressive pace throughout to stay in the freight train, completing the top ten following the battle for the podium. The fastest rookie first time out was 2016 Red Bull Rookies Cup winner and former Asia Talent Cup victor Ayumu Sasaki (SIC Racing Team), taking an impressive P11 on his full-time debut Ăą despite being forced to evade another incident only a handful of laps before the end.

It was a stunning intermediate class debut for rookie Fabio Quartararo (Pons HP 40), whose huge mileage in testing paid off as he brought it home in P7 first time out, just losing out in a battle with Luca Marini (Forward Racing Team) over sixth. Lorenzo Baldassarri (Forward Racing Team) moved up from his grid spot to take eighth, with Xavi Vierge (Tech 3 Racing) and Axel Pons (RW Racing GP) completing the top ten. Joan Mir (SPA) wins in spectacular race Leopart Racing rider Joan Mir, took an incredible first win of 2017 as the lights went out on the Moto3 season, making tactical perfection look easy on the way to the flag. British Talent Team rider John McPhee took second after a stunning ride up from outside the top ten, with

King of Desert Grand Final

A thrilling end to the 2017 Federal Tyres King of Desert Championship

The 2017 Federal Tyres King of the Desert Championship drew to a thrilling climax at the Bahrain International Circuit. Contenders to the covetted title flew in from as farther away as Australia. The event favourite, going into the race was Kuwaiti Fahad Aljadei, who topped the rankings. closely following was the reigning champ Ahmad Daham. The second runner up was the Luke Fink. With the overall rankings extremely close and as always, double points on offer for the final, it was the perfect scenario for an intense weekend - which certainly delivered! An incredible final round saw Ahmad Daham top the overall Championship standings once again, with Australian Luke Fink in second and Fahad Aljadei in third after showing tremendous consistency throughout their first campaigns in the series. A disappointing start for the wekend was Australian Luke Fink, plagued with mechanical issues. The newly supercharged and hugely popular Kinetechnik V10powered E46 M3 let down and could not complete the lap. Fink, fighting the odds, managed to clinch the top spot in qualifying. He borrowed a 1.5JZ Nissan PS13. Saudi driver Abdulhadi Alqahtani marked his return to the series with an impressive second place position. Kuwaiti Mesyar

54

Abushaibahís consistency also continued as he finished third. The undaunting spirit of Ahmad Daham, saw him finish sixth, despite the late arrival of his car and inability to learn the circuit. Leader Fahad Aljadei took the 10th in a car borrowed from team-mate Abdulrahman Fakhroo. His car arrived late. Entering the battle, the first causality was Ahmed Tarek. He too, had to wait for his car to arrive. Later he borrowed Doruk Enginís Camaro. Abdulhadi Alqahtani wasnít willing to let him progress as he secured his place

in the Top 8. Series leader Aljadei also knocked out Doruk Engin and Ahmad Daham ended the weekend for Nicolas Salomon who had shown great driving at both this round and the previous round in Oman. An intense ensuing battle between Mesyar Abushaibah and Ahmad Daham saw the current Champion narrowly secure his spot in the Top 8, with a 4-6, 5-5 advantage. Fahad Aljadei also forced his way past the in-form Abdulhadi Al-Qahtani to end the

Saudi driversí return to the series in Aljadei’s quest for the title. Luke Fink managed a 10-0 score against Muath Al Essa in the opening run. Al Essa tried desperately to progress but his 6-4 advantage in the second run wasnít good enough to allow him success. Champion Ahmad Daham faced Fahad Aljadei in the battle which would decide the fate for both drivers, even as Luke Fink watched on the sidelines to see who he would fight against in the final. After a mistake from Fahad Aljadei in the opening run, it would give a 10-0 advantage to Daham. As Aljadei tried a comeback, a mistake under pressure left Daham with nowhere to go other than into the side of Aljadei. A score of 0-0 was awarded after mistakes from both drivers which meant that Ahmad Daham was once again in the final to fight for his second consecutive title! In the small final, Muath Al Essa faced Fahad

55

MOTORSPORT Aljadei. An unforced error from Al Essa, resulted in a 10-0 score for Aljadei. Al Essa gave his all to try and force a desperate return. The clear advantage in Al Essaís favour, not witstanding in the second run, the 8-2 score wasnít enough ñ handing the third place spot to Fahad Aljadei! As Luke Fink took the leading run first in the final, Ahmad Daham was left in the smoke as clouds billlowed from the 1.5JZ PS13. A 6-4 advantage was awarded to the Australian driver leaving him in contention for the title. However, Daham had other ideas and used the full capabilities of Senshi to pull away from Fink, despite the Australian catching up on the tight first corner. An unlucky error under pressure from the Australian would force a 7-3 score in Dahamís favour as heís once again crowned the King of Desert!

Himmo, driving a Honda CIVIC, won the first race of the weekend following a tough battle with Tim Birkin in a Honda Integra. The pair

finished just 1.639 seconds apart in the front. Mansour Al Hajri in a Toyota GT86 claimed the final podium place in third, 2.529s behind the winner. In race two, Faqihi claimed his impressive win despite having to start all the way from behind in row five. In his Honda CIVIC, Faqihi stormed to first place and won in 16:04.533. He managed to stave off a hard-charging Birkin, who was the runner-up 4.344s behind. Al Hajri came third to gain his second podium of the weekend 20.371s back. Mishal Alneaimi showed why he is the clear favourite to defend his coveted title after another fantastic double in the fifth round of the Bahrain Superbike Championship. Harley Davidson Street Rod hit Mid-east

61

BIKE

Harley-Davidson 2017 Street Rod was introduced in the Middle East to further expand the brandís agile Dark Custom range. Grown from the Street platform, it has been built to thrive in the city ñ and provide an exhilarating experience beyond. The Street Rod is equipped with a tuned high output revolution X 750 engine, producing more torque through the midrange and power at the top-end, while also chasing a higher redline. The bigger hitting motor is matched with sharper chassis geometry and aggressive riding position, introducing further upgrades to the suspension, brakes and wheels. The Street Rodís lines are very much its own. Its tough look is drenched in HarleyDavidson Dark Custom styling (plus hints of flat-track steel) and oozes purpose, with a hunched forward, ready-for-action stance. The raised ride height and 17inch wheels inject the Street Rod with an athletic stance, while the new scoopstyle air cleaner cover and sharper snap of the exhaust note draw attention to the engineís strong design. The machine will be offered in three colour options, Vivid Black, Charcoal Denim and Olive Gold. Mathew Weber, Harley-Davidson chief engineer said at the launch, ìThe Street Rodís new High Output Revolution X 750 has got hot cams, gas-flowed heads, more compression and a higher redline. We wanted a chassis to match, sharp handling and aggressive, perfect

62

for urban cut-and-thrust and canyon carving. Its attitude and the relationship between seat position, rearset footpegs and wide handlebars put the rider fully in control. The fact the Street Rod looks so good ñ and very close to our early sketches ñ gives us all a real charge too!î Its liquid-cooled, single OHC 8V 60∞ V-Twin High Output Revolution X 750 engine produces 20 per cent more horsepower and 10 per cent more torque than the Street 750; peak power arrives at 8,750rpm, with peak torque delivered at 4,000rpm. Itís tuned to deliver strongly between 4,000 and 5,000 rpm, with strong midrange performance that a rider can feel and exploit in real-world situations. The Street Rod backs up its upgraded engine with a liberal dose of HarleyDavidson Dark Custom styling. Thick, blacked-out forks and triple camps, topped with a new speed screen (colour matched to the bodywork except for a black centre insert) add mass to the front end. A new tail section, with perforated rear mudguard, lightens the rear; the taillight is crisp LED, as are the indicators. The chassis is engineered to match the performance of the engine. The front end features rigid 43mm USD forks gripped by lightweight aluminium yokes. The fork rake is tightened from 32∞ to 27∞ for quicker steering. New rear shock absorbers feature an external reservoir to increase fluid capacity and maintain damping consistency; travel is increased by 31 per cent to 117mm. The swing arm is slightly longer to accommodate the taller shocks, with performance-inspired styling. A new seat shape is designed to hold the rider firmly in place and seat height is raised by 104mm, to 757mm, to enhance the riderís view forward. The Street Rod also features new forged brake/gear levers plus aluminium rearset footpegs that aid control and make it easier for more riders to get good ground reach when stationary. To suit more spirited riding, the lean angle is increased from 28.5∞ left and right to 37.3∞ right and 40.2∞ left. The flat, drag-style handlebar creates an aggressive riding position; new bar-end rear-view mirrors can be mounted above or below the grips, and feature a patentpending design that allows them to fold back without interfering with the riderís hands. The machine wears exclusive 17-inch front and rear Open Spoke Black Cast aluminium wheels and new Michelin Scorcher 21 radial tyres, sized 120/70 R17V front and 160/60 R17V rear; dual two-piston calipers and 300mm front disc brakes plus ABS deliver powerful, controlled stopping power. HarleyDavidsonís Smart Security System is standard fitment.

gazman Tips for Staying Safe During the Summer Driving Season The Bahrain summer is at the door. The pleasures of driving on a cold tarmac have receded. The sand storms, hot ro(a) ds and heat waves are just around the bend. For the uninitiated and for those who take this season lightly, GAZMAN looks at the Bahrain roads. Summer is often perceived as the most dangerous driving season. More fatal accidents occur during this season -- June through August -- compared to the winter months. The heat takes its toll on both car and driver. What does GAZMAN advice this summer? To help prepare for this summer driving season, here are a few tips to ensure that your next road trip is a safe one. 1. Check your tyres to stay safe and save money. Tyres with enough treads all around and with the right guage pressure (ask the car dealer or the tyre dealer for ideal typre pressure in the summer), ensure protection against avoidable breakdowns and crashes, improved vehicle handling and better fuel economy. Keeping tire pressure at the manufacturerís recommended level increases fuel efficiency ó an important step in ensuring safe journey. To check if the tyres need to be replaced, insert a 100 fil coin into the tireís tread. The better the tread, the lesser one sees of the coin. If no portion of the his head is covered, the tread has been depleted and it is times to consider replacing the rubber.

water while driving. It is important to about five litres of water at room temperature while driving for both the driver and the engine. The summer sun can also dehydrate you during long roads trips so always travel with plenty of water. 5. Manage summer allergies. Driving with distracting allergy symptoms such as runny eyes, frequent sneezing, congestion and exhaustion can be dangerous. Plus, many over-the-counter and prescription allergy medications contain ingredients that make one drowsy. Never drive under medication with sedation. 6. Insulate the car as much as possible. Always clean and change air filters regularly and consider using plastic, washable floor mats instead cloth ones for easier cleaning and less moisture retention to keep allergy symptoms at bay. 7. Prior to driving, always roll down the windows and keep the car aircondition switched off. With rolled down windows, the heat waves built inside the cabin are removed by the fresh air entering the inside from the surroundings. After three-five minutes, gently turn on the airconditioner. The aircon is thus saved

the load of removing the hot air. This ensures the aircon functions hazzle free. 8. Be extra careful in the summer storms and slight summer drizzels. Roads become very slippery in the first few minutes of rainfall because the rain mixes with the oil and dirt on the road. It takes about 30 minutes of steady rain to wash the oil and dirt off the road. The summer sandstorm can cause depositing of loose snd which works like ice on the wheels. Driving at speeds exceeding 50 kmph, can take the driver away from home forever, rather than reaching the person home faster. 9. Increase the following distance with the vehicle in front to at least four feet. Constantly scan the roadway in front, to the rear, and to the sides of your vehicle for motorcyclists and bicyclists. 10. When driving through construction zones, use extreme caution, follow all road signs and look out for pedestrians or workers. 11. Drivers using four-wheel and allwheel drivers need to be extra careful. Just as much as their vehicles are heavier in looks and construction, the tendency to land in far more fatal accidents is enhanced.

2. Manage glare and heat. Always wear sunglasses and use a sun shield beneath the windshield when parked, to keep the carís interior heat down. By default ensure that there is no child or pet unattended in a vehicle. Human predators looking for an easy bait capitalise on cars with half open windows and the children inside them. 3. Always keep the inside roof and the sides of the doors covered with thick light coloured towels. This lessens the heat entering the passenger cabin. 4. Always carry enough fluids, preferably
