All design themes for the Build organization support the rehabilitation and well-being of the homeless individuals enrolled in the program. THE EDUCATION CENTER: The Strive program will provide many amenities for the main user group, that they can utilize to gain independence, and conidence once again. The users will have full access to all of these amenities if they remain in the program while abiding by the criteria developed by the program administration. This includes respecting the no-drugs policy, and maintaining sobriety while participating in this program. These rules are established to maintain a healthy, comfortable environment within the building. Design criteria will be abiding by the ADA codes are regulations within the space. This is a given, however the existing building does not
have all ADA approved circulation areas. These current conditions must be re-designed to enable all eager users regardless of their physical condition.

restaurant cuisine Honest and Savory, Allison’s Kitchen is a simply delightful interpretation of traditional Southern Cuisine. Allison’s Kitchen serves seasonally selections of fresh Southern Inspired Tapas. The portions are small to encourage trying various menu items, and encourage conversation among customers. The menu is entirely dependant on local vegetables and herbs that are available seasonally. Vegetables and herbs are grown on site, and harvested, dried, and prepared by Strive students for use in the restaurant.

Aesthetic Two major sources of inspiration the Allison’s Kitchen aesthetic. The irst area of inspiration is the informal, comfortable lifestyle associated with the Southern States. The Southern inspiration is applied to the soft goods and the overall color scheme of the space. Tables are large for communal gatherings, and the chairs are mix matched to exaggerate the informality of the space. The color scheme is light with cheerful hues of color as an accent inspired by a sunny day at a farmhouse.

The warm, light southern aesthetic is intentionally contrasted by the cool colors and metallic materials that are incorporated to pay homage to the Cincinnati Color Company Building. Large scafolding systems and paint stick surfaces function as partitions throughout the restaurant. Dark iron mullioned doors cover the north facade, and are used as structure for the courtyard. 63

precedents union jacks Union Jacks is a restaurant in London designed by Black Sheep design irm. Black sheep challenge was working with the existing building, to create a restaurant that paid homage to London’s culture, and respect the existing footprint of the building. Union Jack’s charm lies in its vintage-nostalgia style, informal and comfortable. This precedent was a visual resource for integrating culture subtly into a design.
