what is STRIVE ? Strive is the second program within the SYNC: O.T.R organization that is dedicated to Homeless Rehabilitation. The program is closely linked to SYNC: O.T.R Home, by providing the next step towards independence and stability for the homeless residing at SYNC: O.T.R Home. is two tiered Strive program that is dedicated to transforming the lives of the homeless by creating opportunities to gain in professional experience in the food industry. Strive provides a twelve month curriculum that focuses on professional development, personal development, and hands on job training for homeless and impoverished adults who have experienced diiculty maintaining an occupation. 20

The STRIVE program is divided into two main sections: Education and Application. The building contains both zones of the two part program which include the culinary institute, and Allison’s Kitchen, a public restaurant where the Strive students gain professional experience in both culinary arts and customer relations. 21

strive objective: Education 24 Students are accepted by STRIVE every eight months. After being accepted, students have the option to have their curriculum based on customer relations or culinary arts. Strive provides equal hands - on experience for both the food industry, and customer relations programs. Both programs include other personal and professional development courses within the twelve month curriculum that are conducted at SYNC: Home. The irst six months focus on getting those enrolled back on their feet with personal development classes, daily meetings with a case manager, and inancial planning courses. The last six months focus on developing a professional identity including resume building, computer classes, and job search. 23

STUDENTS CULINARY STUDENTS: The culinary program will provide hands on training for the irst six months, then applied practice in Allison’s Kitchen restaurant for months 6-12. The Culinary students gain experience in herb preparation, food preparation, baking, cooking, and harvesting of vegetables and herbs on site.
CUSTOMER SERVICE STUDENTS The customer service program provides students with communication and customer relations training for the irst six months, then applied practice either serving, hosting, or managing for months 6-12.
