SPECIAL PRESENTATION
A LIFE TO REMEMBER ELDER TONYA G. FOREMAN EDGERTON
May 21, 1964 - June 21, 2024
Tonya Gaye Foreman Edgerton departed this life on June 21, 2024. She was born on May 21, 1964 to Drs. Steve & Olivia Foreman. Tonya was born and raised in the church as a PK (preacher’s kid). She is the third born and eldest daughter of Chief Apostle Foreman and Lady O, the founders of the Abundant Life Church of Christ (ALCC) in Richmond, Virginia.
During her formative years, Tonya began her childhood education in the Church Hill School District of Richmond before moving to the Western Henrico County Public School System in Glen Allen, Virginia. Tonya graduated from Hermitage High School in 1982. She participated in various school activities to include throwing the shot put in track and field. She also enjoyed playing tennis at Battery Park in the North side of Richmond. She found a way to be a light and a witness for Jesus even at a young age.
Tonya was the wife of almost 36 years to Pastor Isaac B. Edgerton, ALCC Assistant Pastor and Director of Music and Arts. God blessed their union with 4 adult men; Joshua (wife Alicia), Aaron (wife Olivia), Matthew and Timothy – all of whom are college graduates and love the Lord. She was also a very proud grandmother to 5-year-old Yara Camille. She greatly anticipated and thoroughly enjoyed their playtime together. Tonya was an exemplary mother, grandmother, a devoted wife and an excellent cook. Her macaroni and cheese was unrivaled.
She loved to laugh and watch her old Westerns TV shows. Her talkative manner was captivating and her lively banter was infectious.
Tonya had a sincere love for children and music. She played the piano since the age of 5. She gave her life to the Lord at an early age and served faithfully in ministry throughout the decades by singing in the Sunshine Band as a youth and the Love Ensemble as a young adult. She used her musical skills in the ALCC Praise Band and headed up the Praise Team and Chamber Orchestra for the longrunning Power-Filled Women’s Conferences. She wrote the PFW Theme song that is still sung to this day. Tonya also used her musical talents to sing on the ALCC Praise Team, Special Song Ministry, play with the ALCC and PFW Drum Corps as well as implement the Puppet Ministry for the kids. She participated in the ALCC Drama Ministry and served as the Assistant Director for the Music Department. She loved to praise and worship the Lord and it showed!
Tonya attended Virginia Commonwealth University where she studied Early Childhood Education. With this training and with God’s anointing, she taught at the Abundant Life Christian Academy and the Abundant Life Day Care where she served as the Assistant Director. For those collective 21 years, she not only educated the children, but she ministered the Word of God to them as well as to the parents.
Mrs. Edgerton’s excellent teaching techniques and organizational skills easily afforded her the title of “Teacher Extraordinaire!” She also founded and directed the Kingdom Seekers Children’s Choir. Sister Edgerton passionately served as the Children’s Ministry Leader for many years. She facilitated Vacation Bible School and Children’s Ministry Training and taught many workshops.
Because of her dedicated service and devotion, Tonya was ordained as an Elder at ALCC in 2008. For the past 20 years, Elder Tonya worked tirelessly as the ALCC Office Manager. She ran a tight ship as a “Gatekeeper” who kept the ministry in order. Elder Tonya gave ALCC many successful programs and great special services utilizing her event planning skills, ideas and talents. She served on the ALCC Board of Directors for several years. After a total of 39 years of invaluable contributions and employment with the church, Elder Tonya retired in 2022.
Elder Tonya had a tremendous call on her life to teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in season and out. Elder Tonya conducted numerous workshops and training sessions in Children’s Ministry, living a holy, called out life and more. She had the uncanny ability to share hard subjects in an effective and thought-provoking way. Even while going through her own health challenges, Tonya displayed a powerful testimony of God’s keeping power! She boldly shared her faith in the doctor’s office and hospital, ministering salvation, healing and deliverance to all those in need. Many souls were touched as they came by to witness the victorious things God did in the life of our “miracle lady”.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Creade & Mable Anderson & Steve, Sr. & Roulette Foreman; her father-in-law: Angyln Edgerton; her nephew: Ayden Foreman; her best friend: Dr. Kimberly Randolph; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A AUTHORITATIVE – Tonya was spiritually strong in the Lord! As a woman of faith, she prayed many of us through! She knew how to decree and command the blessings. Also, as the Oldest Sister and the Boss of all of us, what she said went! Knuck if you Buck!

From helping Mom cook and take care of the house to leaving notes for our Dad on what needed to be done, to bossing all her younger and older siblings around, TONYA GAYETTA MARIE, as we affectionately call her, was the BEST SISTER anyone could ever ask for!
Well Done Sissy. Rest Well until we meet again…

If roses grow in Heaven Lord, please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my Mother’s arms and tell her they’re from me.
Tell her that I love and miss her, and when she turns to smile, Place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for a while.
Because remembering her is easy,I do it every day,
But there’s an ache within my heart that will never go away!
"REMAIN JESUS STRONG!"
