HEAD COACH ALYSSA HUNT Alyssa (Birch) Hunt begins her second season as Grove City College’s head women’s water polo coach. In 2015, Hunt guided Grove City to a fourth-place finish at the Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Championships. The Wolverines highlighted the season-ending tournament by upsetting No. 4 Macalester in the quarterfinal round. Hunt came to Grove City after spending the last five years at California Baptist University. She earned four letters as a member of the Cal Baptist women’s water polo team from 2010 to 2014. Hunt helped CBU to a 97-50 aggregate record and recording 70 career goals and 110 career assists during her four seasons of play (2010-12, 2014). She graduated summa cum laude from Cal Baptist in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and recently finished her master’s degree in kinesiology at CBU. A native of Calgary, Alberta, Hunt worked as an assistant coach for the Alberta Water Polo Association’s provincial team from June 2010 to August 2013. She is also the assistant men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach at Grove City. She helped Grove City’s women’s team capture Presidents’ Athletic Conference
titles in 2015 and 2016. Hunt also serves as an instructor of physical education and exercise science at the College. She lives in Grove City.

Grove City Looking To Return To Top Of CWPA Division III With five starters back from last season, the Grove City College women’s water polo team has its sights set on a return to the top of the Collegiate Water Polo Association’s Division III conference in 2016. Second-year head coach Alyssa Hunt welcomes back four of the Wolverines’ top five scorers from last year, along with a two-year starter in goal. Senior co-captains Ashley Henderson and Ashley Parks are expected to help lead Grove City this season after having been integral parts of the Wolverines’ success over the past three seasons. Henderson ranked second on the team with 31 assists last year while also registered 17 goals. She added 37 steals on the defensive end and will be counted on at both ends of the pool. An offensive threat throughout her first three seasons, Parks pumped in 32 goals in 2015 and now has 107 scores in her career. Parks will again be one of the Wolverines’ top weapons in 2016. Junior Abby Jank earned All-CWPA recognition as a freshman and finished 2015 in strong fashion after missing five early-season matches. Jank registered 20 goals and 20 assists last year while also ranking second on the team with 47 steals.
Junior Grace Klimek started six matches as a sophomore and will look for a full-time starting spot this year. She is a two-year letterwinner.
Jank is also one of the conference’s top sprinters and will be a major factor on both offense and defense this year. Sophomore Maggie Blume made an immediate contribution to Grove City’s fortunes in 2015 by scoring 19 goals and adding 11 assists. Blume moved into the starting lineup at the start of her rookie campaign and provides a skilled two-way threat for the Wolverines. In goal, junior Mary Frank returns after making 40 starts in goal over the last two seasons. Frank ranks among Grove City’s all-time statistical leaders in several categories. Junior Grace Klimek is a returning letterwinner who appeared in 17 matches last year. Klimek will push for a spot in the starting lineup, as will second-year performers Brynna Bartlett and Carolyn Ebel. A number of newcomers could also challenge for starting spots this season. Grove City opens the 2016 season February 18-19 with a series of matches in California. Conference play begins March 11 in Kenosha, Wis.

2015 IN REVIEW The 2015 season proved to be a transition year for the Grove City College women’s water polo program as a youthful team found its way through the challenging Collegiate Water Polo Association’s Division III conference. First-year head coach Alyssa (Birch) Hunt guided Grove City to a 7-11 overall record, including a 6-8 record in league play. The Wolverines ultimately placed fourth at the season-ending CWPA Division III Championships, which Grove City hosted in James E. Longnecker Pool. Senior Jocelyn Hinkle concluded her career as one of the most-decorated athletes in program history as she earned her third consecutive First Team All-CWPA honor. Hinkle led the team with 61 goals, 32 assists and 90 steals during in 2015. She concluded her career as the program’s all-time leader with 128 assists. Her 237 career goals ranked second on Grove City’s career list. Following the season, the CWPA honored Hinkle as its Division III Scholar-Athlete of the Year, which is regarded as the organization’s highest honor for an active player. She also earned Honorable Mention All-America from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches. Juniors Ashley Henderson and Ashley Parks both fashioned productive campaigns as each player completed her third season as a starter. Henderson ranked second on the team with 31 assists while Parks pumped in 32 goals, second-best on the squad.

Sophomore Mary Frank started every match in goal for the second consecutive season, anchoring the back line of Grove City’s defense. Classmate Abby Jank recorded 20 goals and 20 assists in just 13 matches, further solidifying her position as one of the conference’s top offensive threats. Meanwhile, fellow sophomore Grace Klimek emerged in her second season, making six starts and 17 total appearances. Rookie Maggie Blume quickly became one of the CWPA’s top freshmen performers as she finished her first season with 19 goals and 11 assists.

The James E. Longnecker Competition Pool is one of the nation’s top small-college aquatic facilities. The 8-lane facility is regarded as one of the fastest pools in the region and is reserved solely for use by the College’s swimming and diving and water polo athletes. The Pool features two one-meter diving boards and one three-meter board as well as five Power Rack stations. A newly-installed eight-lane electronic Daktronics timing system is integrated into the pool and scoreboard. The shallow end of the Pool is seven feet; thus the facility is able to host several Collegiate Water Polo Association events that are restricted from “shallow-deep” pools. Since 2000, Grove City College has hosted several CWPA championship events, including the 2015 CWPA Division III Championships. The James E. Longnecker Competition Pool is 25 yards in length and 56 feet wide. It holds 408,913 gallons of water. The seating capacity of the Pool area is approximately 400. The Pool has been home to the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships since 1990.

ABOUT
The beautifully landscaped campus of Grove City College stretches over 150 acres and includes 28 neo-Gothic buildings. It is considered one of the loveliest in the nation. While the College has changed to meet the needs of the society it serves, its basic philosophy has remained unchanged since its founding in 1876. It is a Christian, liberal arts institution, dedicated to the principle of providing the highest quality education at the lowest possible cost. Wishing to remain truly independent and to retain its distinctive qualities as a private school governed by private citizens (trustees), it is one of few colleges in the country that does not accept federal funds. Affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), but not narrowly denominational, the College believes that to be well-educated a student should be exposed to the central ideas of the Judeo-Christian tradition. Grove City College offers undergraduate degrees in liberal arts, sciences, engineering, business, and music and is distinguished as a national leader in education. Grove City’s programs in electrical and mechanical engineering are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission Board of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. The “big business school curriculum” prepares students for today’s global business reality. An extensive variety of internship opportunities are provided across the curriculum. Grove City College wants its students to be prepared in this age of mobile information technology. Each entering freshman receives a tablet computer which is his or hers to keep upon graduation with a four-year degree. This is part of the Information Technology Initiative, a total program integrating technology across the curriculum.

The College believes that its student body has a unique mix of talents and abilities. Its Career Services program helps students identify those key assets during the first year and then builds a four-year strategy to help them pursue a satisfying career. Personal counseling, professional speakers, databases, alumni contacts, summer internships, corporate visits, employer presentations and more are incorporated into the career preparation experience. Grove City follows the semester calendar plan, in addition to offering two-week sessions in January and May. Most of the 2,500 students live in separate men’s and women’s dormitories. The rest are local commuters or married students. A full program of cultural, professional, athletic and social activities is offered, including 19 intercollegiate varsity athletic teams. Grove City, a town of 8,100 people, is located 60 miles north of Pittsburgh. It is located near Interstates 79 and 80 and has a municipal airport.

ATHLETIC FACILITIES
All 21 of Grove City College’s intercollegiate varsity athletic teams utilize the College’s superior facilities for competition, practices and off-season training and conditioning. Grove City’s athletic facilities have undergone numerous renovations and improvements in recent years, with more upgrades scheduled in the immediate future. On lower campus, Robert E. Thorn Field is home to the College’s football and track and field teams. The College installed CSTurf at Robert E. Thorn Field. CSTurf is a synthetic playing surface that features polyethylene LSR grass fibers and a rubber infill system. The College also installed lights and resurfaced the 8-lane track around the field. Grove City also reconfigured its setup for track meets during these renovations. In 2011, the College installed a new stateof-the-art scoreboard and new bleachers on the visitors’ side at Thorn Field. These upgrades benefit the entire campus community as the complex is used by both the College’s club sports teams and its intramural program, along with the varsity teams. The track is also available for use by recreational walkers and joggers. The complex also features 10 all-weather tennis courts next to the stadium. Phillips Field House, located at the north end of the complex, features several locker rooms, an athletic training room, meeting rooms and coaches’ offices. It is used by the football, track and tennis programs throughout the academic year. The Physical Learning Center (PLC) houses the Grove City College Arena, home to the College’s basketball and volleyball programs. In summer 2012, the College renovated the Arena by installing new lighting and a new playing floor. In recent years, the Arena has also received new scoreboards and scorers’ tables.

In addition, the PLC features the James E. Longnecker Pool, one of the premier aquatic facilities in the region. Each year, Grove City hosts the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at the state-of-the-art facility. In 2015, the College also hosted the Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Championships at the James E. Longnecker Pool. The PLC also features a second pool, the Recreational Pool, which is used by members of the College community year-round. A fitness room featuring aerobic and Cybex equipment and a separate weight room with free and mechanized weights are also keystone areas of the facility. The PLC also features six racquetball/handball courts as well as two adjacent intramural rooms. The intramural rooms feature four basketball courts, four indoor tennis courts, four volleyball courts, an indoor track and two indoor jumping pits. The College installed new synthetic flooring and several new electronic scoreboards throughout the intramural rooms. The Physical Learning Center houses the athletic training room, locker rooms and offices for coaches and physical education faculty. The College recently constructed a new office suite for coaches and athletic administration, while also incorporating its Athletic Hall of Fame area. Grove City’s outdoor athletic facilities have also received numerous upgrades in recent years. The varsity soccer field, College Field, received a new press box during the summer of 2007. Meanwhile, Grove City’s baseball and softball facilities recently received major facelifts as new dugouts, new fencing and electronic scoreboards were installed on both fields.
