HEAD COACH CHRISTINE SLATER
ASSISTANT COACH KRISTEN CRAMER
One of the most versatile players to come through the Grove City program in recent memory, Kristen (Hughes) Cramer is in her fourth season as the Wolverines’ assistant softball coach. In her current role, Cramer works with several aspects of the program, including outfield development, hitting instruction and defensive positioning. She earned four letters at Grove City from 2005 to 2008 while playing both in the infield and the outfield. She started 97 career games for the Wolverines and led the team in hitting as a junior with a .378 average. Cramer also led the team in runs, total bases and on-base percentage during that 2007 season. She earned Second Team All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference in 2007. She earned Dean’s List honors and also landed on the Presidents’ Athletic Conference’s Academic Honor Roll during her career. Cramer graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish in 2008. She completed her master’s degree at nearby Slippery Rock University in 2010. Cramer lives with her husband, Mike, in their native Grove City.

COACHING STAFF
Christine Slater is Grove City's head softball coach for the 2013-14 academic year. A 2011 Grove City College graduate, Slater returns to the College after spending two years as a graduate assistant coach in both basketball and softball at fellow Presidents' Athletic Conference member Waynesburg University. During her two seasons with Waynesburg's women's basketball program, she helped the Yellow Jackets to a 34-21 overall record, including a 20-win season in 2011-12. Slater assisted in nearly every aspect of the Waynesburg program in those two seasons. Slater also served as a graduate assistant for the Waynesburg softball team in 2013. Slater earned eight total letters as a two-sport athlete at Grove City from 2007 to 2011. She started all four years for the Grove City women's basketball team and graduated as the program's second all-time leading scorer with 1,634 points. She led the conference in scoring as a junior and again as a senior. Slater earned First Team All-PAC in each of her final three seasons Slater also started four seasons in the infield for the Grove City softball team and earned All-PAC recognition in each of those years. Slater hit a team-leading .391 as a sophomore and again led the team in batting average with a .349 mark as a junior in 2010. She also led the team in hits, stolen bases and on-base percentage as a junior. Slater ranks third all-time at Grove City with 129 hits and fourth with 73 runs scored. She also holds Grove City’s career record with 319 assists defensively. She earned a bachelor's degree in communication studies from Grove City in 2011 and earned her master's in business administration from Waynesburg in 2013. Slater also holds the rank of instructor of physical education. She lives in Grove City.
GROVE CITY COLLEGE
SEASON PREVIEW
SEASON PREVIEW Familiar faces abound for the Grove City College softball program as the Wolverines prepare for the 2014 season. Ten letterwinners return from last season, including seven players who started regularly in 2013. Although the Wolverines feature a new head coach, that person is also no stranger to the program as former standout Christine Slater has taken over for the 2014 season. The Wolverines feature plenty of depth, experience and versatility in both the infield and outfield. Three players who started extensively in 2013 are back in the outfield - junior Erica Gmuer, junior Caitlyn Vidovic and sophomore Megan Lynskey. Gmuer made 30 starts as a sophomore and is the incumbent in center field. Lynskey and Vidovic may have the inside track to start in the corner outfield spots after playing regularly last year. Lynskey made an immediate impact as a freshman by starting 25 games and hitting .384. Vidovic made 22 starts last year and is a two-year letterwinner. She could also help fill the void in the pitcher's circle this year. Junior catcher Sarah Morris is a two-year starter behind the plate for Grove City.
Versatile senior Baylie Jones, sophomore Emily Rothbard, freshman Madison Brubaker and freshman Allison O'Hearn will all contend for time in the outfield this year. In the infield, juniors Kelsey Shirey and Allison Rayburn return up the middle to give Grove City a strong foundation. Shirey is a two-year starter at shortstop and is a two-time All-Presidents' Athletic Conference honoree. She hit .441 last year while also posting a .696 slugging percentage. Rayburn has sparked Grove City from the top of the lineup in each of her first two seasons. She started at third base as a rookie before settling in at second base last year. Rayburn teams with Shirey to give Grove City one of the top returning keystone combinations in the region. Jones played in 26 games last year and could play second, third and shortstop. Sophomore Casey Woodcock also returns after starting at both first and third base last year. She hit .264 in 27 starts as a freshman. Sophomore Brianna Bals will also look to break into the lineup after playing a reserve last year. First-year sophomore infielder Allie Schellin and freshman Alaina Kunselman will also challenge for time this year.
Junior Caitlyn Vidovic is a returning starter in the outfield for Grove City.

SEASON PREVIEW
Junior Sarah Morris returns for her third season behind the plate. A two-year starter and letterwinner, Morris hit .306 last year and will look to remain a force in the middle of the lineup. Freshman Katy Gibson will push Morris at catcher. While Grove City features plenty of experience around the diamond, the Wolverines will have to answer questions in the middle of the diamond as the roster features players with a total of 19 collegiate innings pitched to their credit. Rothbard pitched 12 innings in relief last season while Vidovic threw seven relief innings in 2012. Both players could be integral parts of the pitching staff this season. Several newcomers are also in the pitching mix, including freshman Erika Aughton, Katie Watts and Aimee Wootton. Grove City opens its season with a 10-game trip to Clermont, Fla., in early March. The northern portion of the schedule begins March 18 at Pitt-Greensburg. The Wolverines will open their home schedule March 20 against Hiram in non-conference play. Presidents’ Athletic Conference action starts March 29 with a doubleheader against visiting Saint Vincent. Grove City concludes the regular season April 26 with a doubleheader at Thiel. The top four teams will qualify for the season-ending conference tournament.

THE PRESIDENTS’ ATHLETIC CONFERENCE
Geneva became eligible for conference titles in 2011-12. The PAC annually crowns champions in 19 sports. All-Conference status is awarded in all 19 sports. Head coaches select all-league squads for all team sports, while in individual sports such as cross country and tennis, all-PAC accolades are based upon performances at the conference championships. The PAC annually awards its men’s and women’s All-Sports Trophies to the schools which perform best across the board in conference competition. Grove City won the Women’s All-Sports Trophy for the 2012-13 academic year while Washington & Jefferson earned the Men’s All-Sports Trophy. In 2012-13, the league named a conference-record 853 student-athletes to the PAC Academic Honor Roll, which recognizes all participating student-athletes who attain a term grade-point average of 3.60 or above during their semester of competition.

PRESIDENTS’ ATHLETIC CONFERENCE
Founded in 1955, the Presidents’ Athletic Conference continues its mission of promoting intercollegiate athletics and the pursuit of academic excellence. Comprised of 10 select private colleges and universities - Bethany College, Chatham University, Geneva College, Grove City College, Saint Vincent College, Thiel College, Thomas More College, Washington & Jefferson College, Waynesburg University and Westminster College - the PAC remains a unique organization in this day of high-pressure intercollegiate athletics. With academics at the center of each member’s philosophy, the PAC is built on the principle that an athletic program is a part of college life, but not an entity in itself. During the 2005-06 academic year, Chatham, Geneva and Saint Vincent all joined the PAC. Chatham competed for PAC championships for the first time during the 2007-08 academic year. Saint Vincent first competed for conference titles in 2010-11.

2013 REVIEW
2013 REVIEW
The Grove City College softball program completed its 34th season of intercollegiate action during the spring of 2013. While the Wolverines fell just short of their bid to return to the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament, the season did produce numerous highlights throughout. Three Grove City players earned All-PAC recognition following the season. Shortstop Kelsey Shirey earned First Team honors for the second straight season while pitcher Lauren Clarke earned Second Team recognition. Freshman outfielder Megan Lynskey earned Honorable Mention All-PAC from the conference's head coaches. Shirey ranked fourth in the conference with a .441 batting average. She also ranked second with a .696 slugging percentage and fourth in the league with a

.482 on-base percentage. Shirey led the league with eight triples and swiped 11 bases, good for fifth in the conference. She twice earned the conference's Player of the Week award during the 2013 season. Clarke went 7-9 with a 2.68 earned run average and led Grove City in innings, appearances, complete games and strikeouts. She highlighted her season with a 10-strikeout nohitter against Ohio Christian April 26. Offensively, she hit .308 and ranked third on the team in runs scored, hits and runs batted in. Lynskey ranked ninth in the conference with a .384 batting average. Her .451 on-base percentage placed her seventh in the league. Sophomore catcher Sarah Morris provided offensive production from behind the plate by hitting .306 and finishing second to Shirey on the team in runs batted in.
Senior pitcher Lauren Clarke concluded her career at Grove City in 2013 by earning Second Team AllPresidents’ Athletic Conference honors.

Three Grove City softball standouts have been inducted into the College’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
Carla (Wetzel ’82) Patarini
Carla (Wetzel) Patarini competed in volleyball, basketball and softball, accumulating a Grove City-record 11 letters from 1978-82. She played on seven teams that won conference titles and six teams that qualified for EAIAW or NCAA postseason play.
Kathie Brandt ’82
Following her freshman year, Kathie Brandt became instrumental in making women’s softball a varsity sport at Grove City. The inaugural softball squad took the field in 1980 with Brandt at first base and batting cleanup. She led the team in runs batted in all three seasons and received All-Women’s Keystone Conference honors three times under head coach Don Lyle.
Women’s softball made its debut as a varsity sport at Grove City in 1980, during Wetzel’s sophomore year. Playing third base, she earned First Team All-Women’s Keystone Conference and team MVP honors after leading the team to an 8-2 record.
She captained the team twice and led the conference in home runs and runs batted in as a senior. A strong post player for head coach Terry Ellis on the hardwood, Brandt helped the cagers post a 67-11 overall record and earn four WKC titles.
On the basketball court, Wetzel engineered the offense at point guard all four years. During her career, the Lady Wolverines secured four WKC titles and finished 66-12 overall. She graduated in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. 2008 INDUCTEE

ABOUT GROVE CITY COLLEGE
ABOUT THE COLLEGE
The beautifully landscaped campus of Grove City College stretches over 150 acres and includes 28 neoGothic buildings. It is considered one of the loveliest in the nation. While the College has changed to meet the needs of the society it serves, its basic philosophy has remained unchanged since its founding in 1876. It is a Christian, liberal arts institution, dedicated to the principle of providing the highest quality education at the lowest possible cost. Wishing to remain truly independent and to retain its distinctive qualities as a private school governed by private citizens (trustees), it is one of few colleges in the country that does not accept federal funds. Affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), but not narrowly denominational, the College believes that to be well-educated a student should be exposed to the central ideas of the Judeo-Christian tradition. Grove City College offers undergraduate degrees in liberal arts, sciences, engineering, business, and music and is distinguished as a national leader in education. Grove City’s programs in electrical and mechanical engineering are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission Board of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. The “big business school curriculum” prepares students for today’s global business reality. An extensive variety of internship opportunities are provided across the curriculum. Grove City College wants its students to be prepared in this age of mobile information technology. Each entering freshman receives a tablet computer which is his or hers to keep upon graduation with a four-year degree. This is part of the Information Technology Initiative, a total program integrating technology across the curriculum.
PROGRAMS AND MAJORS
Grove City College’s Breen Student Union
The College believes that its student body has a unique mix of talents and abilities. Its Career Services program helps students identify those key assets during the first year and then builds a four-year strategy to help them pursue a satisfying career. Personal counseling, professional speakers, databases, alumni contacts, summer internships, corporate visits, employer presentations and more are incorporated into the career preparation experience. Grove City follows the semester calendar plan, in addition to offering two-week sessions in January and May. Most of the 2,500 students live in separate men’s and women’s dormitories. The rest are local commuters or married students. A full program of cultural, professional, athletic and social activities is offered, including 19 intercollegiate varsity athletic teams. Grove City, a town of 8,100 people, is located 60 miles north of Pittsburgh. It is located near Interstates 79 and 80 and has a municipal airport.

All 19 of Grove City College’s intercollegiate varsity athletic teams utilize the College’s superior facilities for competition, practices and off-season training and conditioning. Grove City’s athletic facilities have undergone numerous renovations and improvements in recent years, with more upgrades scheduled in the immediate future. On lower campus, Robert E. Thorn Field is home to the College’s football and track and field teams. The College installed CSTurf at Robert E. Thorn Field. CSTurf is a synthetic playing surface that features polyethylene LSR grass fibers and a rubber infill system. The College also installed lights and resurfaced the 8-lane track around the field. Grove City also reconfigured its setup for track meets during these renovations. In 2011, the College installed a new state-ofthe-art scoreboard and new bleachers on the visitors’ side at Thorn Field. These upgrades benefit the entire campus community as the complex is used by both the College’s club sports teams and its intramural program, along with the varsity teams. The track is also available for use by recreational walkers and joggers. The complex also features 10 all-weather tennis courts next to the stadium. Phillips Field House, located at the north end of the complex, features several locker rooms, an athletic training room, meeting rooms and coaches’ offices. It is used by the football, track and tennis programs throughout the academic year. The Physical Learning Center (PLC) houses the Grove City College Arena, home to the College’s basketball and volleyball programs. In summer 2012, the College renovated the Arena by installing new lighting and a new playing floor. In recent years, the Arena has also received new scoreboards and scorers’ tables.
