portfolio 2022

HEY, I’M MIKAELA

digital design is fairly new pursuit of mine, but creative expression is not. i take my lifelong interests like illustrating, upcycling, and photography and incorporate them into my digital design pieces and campaigns.

this portfolio is an example of how my design brain works- the ideation, the process, and the results produced. every piece here was accomplished in my 3 years in grand canyon’s graphic design program.

i needed this report to be classic yet dramatic, so i paired the print typeface with a high contrast layout.

this project ended up being chosen from my class to be published with the actual theatre collaborative.

2022 brand identity campaign

NIGHT VISION ART & MUSIC

i created a campaign for billy squier’s song “in the dark”, and advertised an art fest where he would perform.

much of these visuals were handmade. i sewed, taped, ripped, and illustrated the collages seen in the ads.

there were various assignments focused on this brand- logo design, tradebooth swag, and presentation graphics.

2022 brand identity campaign i chose to create sketches paired with a gothic font to represent the authenticity of the brand and its campaign. 10

FEEL GOOD INK SHOOT

2022 tattoo product photography

this was an instagram ad project that i designed to feel surreal and for the tattoo to pop on the skin.

i edited these in photoshop using clone stamp, mirroring images, and burning and dodging the tattoo ink.

JNCO JEANS AD 2021 creative typography

this wide-legged jean company needed an editorial advertisement using physical and tangible typography.

i sewed a wide pair of jeans that resembled jnco’s, and cut out my tagline from fabric to stick on the legs of the jeans.

the goal of this project was to mimic 90’s fashion catalogs with posing and peculiar type design.

this shoot signifies resiliency since we ended up having to accomplish it in a dorm with a lamp and a white bedsheet.

DROP DEAD ROCK FEST

2021 event campaign

i created an emblem and merch designs for a rock festival located in new mexico called “drop dead rock fest”.

the illustrated zia symbol paired with an eye is a tribute to new mexico and the strong identity of rock music listeners.

VINTAGE FORTUNE-TELLING

the focus of this layout was the photographs, and i wanted to create a truly vintage look with little text.

2022 editorial design for the cover i printed, ripped, and scanned two separate photographs. i also utilized my own handwriting.
