Coverup Makeup is widely used these days by girls. Young adolescents as young as 12 these days can be seen using makeup, some have even mastered it already compared to users way older. Main reasons makeup is widely used by many is for feature enchancement, art, confidence boost or to hide imperfections; which goes hand in hand with confidence. Imprefections such as pimple scars or freckles (yes some poeple do try to hide them) are extremely common to conceal with foundation or concealer to give a “smooth” and “beautiful” complexion. Others use heavy eye makeup to brighten the eyes, make them appear bigger or hide monolids as it is considered “not beautiful” for some. Another important asethetic routine for girls would be SKINCARE. EXTREMELY BIG on skincare. Everyone wants that smooth, soft and perfect skin with no “impurities”. Some move out of their way and try bizzare remedies such as the snail muscus mask. I, personally would not want that on my face but hey you do you! Go for that snail muscus if you think it helps you! Or that 24K Gold mask or even some bee venom! Just remember “Beauty is pain”, to an certain extent.

Au-Naturel “Natural” beauty has many meanings depending the the perspective of the person. Some may think of people who are born naturally beautiful while others think of embracing what you are and have eithout the use of additional and unessecary help. Try and go all naturel girls! Embrace those freckles! Don’t be self concious of those pimples and their scars. Its all normal and everyone gets them sometime in their life. Just because theres afew extra spots doesn’t mean you’re not beautiful. People dont actually notice it as much as you think! We all pick out what we’re unsatisfied with , no matter how much we fix it there’ll always be another “imperfection”that pops up because lets face it, no body is perfect. Even models and tv stars have insecurities! Learn to embrace them and love yourself. Surround yourself with people who think positive and not judgemental. Dont be around those people who always think the cup is half empty HAHA! It really makes a huge difference! And gurl. If youre someone who is trying to cover up them monolids..DONT! Because who are the public to determine if youre beautiful or not by ... eyelids?

GIRLS, THE INTERNET, AND POP CULTURE Does being a girl on the internet mean broadcasting an image out to the wide web, an image that reflects nothing of who we actually are? Is it getting caught in the act and catapulting ourselves into infamy and calling it ‘individualism’? Is it using beauty as slander, forging wars of vanity against each other? Is it about taking the perfect selfie? Is it being a starry eyed, fangirl with a lust for pop culture and celebrities out of our reach? Is it uniting as a front and using the internet to fight the patriarchy and delegate equality? Why does the internet have so much control over the way girls act? In retrospect, girls get it. We know what it means to live under the

public eye, to live under constant scrutiny and examination. We usepop culture and social media as a way to cultivate our personalities, to make us ‘likeable’. We buy into this world that demeans us, sanctioning us into factions where stepping out is considered ‘eccentric’ and ‘ground breaking’. Why do girls let pop culture and the internet have so much power over them and not appreciate it for its face value? Why do we let it dictate our actions and the way we live our lives? Have we fallen so far that we can’t help but need the approval of others to make us feel relevant? To make us feel like our lives are worth living? Why do people do anything?
Sports teams are just like fandoms. You’re probably wondering, ‘on what planet is a sporting team like a fandom?’. Well, if you think about it, they’re much more alike than you’d think. Like sports teams, fandoms come together to celebrate any given genre, style or personality within the pop culture realm. Like sports fans, they take a few hours of their time to attend big events, such as Comic Con, where they’re able to lose themselves in a world of pop culture. Just like a sporting event, fans come together clad in the dress of their fandom to such events where they’re able to celebrate amongst other fans, sharing stories, values, theories and everything else in between. And of course, just like at a sports game, there are some rivalries between certain groups, some much more ferocious than others. Though we may not celebrate fandoms as much as we do sports teams, it still doesn’t deny the fact that fandoms are much more prominent in the digital world and they’re only getting bigger. You may have come across them on social media on blogs, or Instagram pages, through fan fiction or even just stumbled across a diehard’s YouTube video. But no matter what realm of pop culture you’re into, you’re bound to have come across at least one fandom of sorts. There is no limit to the size or shape of a fandom as each is so unique and selective in what they praise. They can surround pop culture icons, movies and/or TV, music, genres, games, and anything else under the sun. Some of which, even naming themselves after their chosen pop culture reference. For example, popular groups include Lady Gaga’s “Little Monsters”, Doctor Who’s “Whovians”,
“Directioners”, “Sherlockians”, “Trekkies” – the list goes on! Though most fans tend to keep to themselves, dwelling within their own fandoms, there are the few who tend to extend their reaches, delving into more than fandom at once. With the reaches of social media extending further and further across the internet, fans are able to seek out others across the globe with just a click of a button. And with such a vast network under their wing, it’s no wonder fandoms grow so rapidly. There is a strength in community, where people are able to share their experiences with their given fandom and feel as though they completely belong. Most fandoms keep peacefully to themselves, however, some, when provoked, turn the peaceful world of fandoms into something much uglier. The Beyhive (A collective devoted to Beyonce) are notorious across all platforms of social media, particularly Twitter and Instagram, for their merciless devotion and damning threats to anyone who dares remotely challenge Beyonce. Between the layers of abusive and critical comments, the Beyhive leaves a flood of lemon, crown, and bee emojis to essentially mark where they’ve been. No fandom is the same, for there is no ideal model in which they are to follow, and perhaps that’s a good thing. Perhaps being a part of something with no rules or model requirements means that we are able to truly be. Perhaps that is why fans love being in fandoms so much, because they’re a part of something larger than themselves. Perhaps it gives them purpose, or will. Whatever the reason, fandoms have taken over the digital world, and they’re here to stay.

Since the first wave of feminism rose upon the shores of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, feminism has rained true through society fighting for equality, rights and the safety of women. Through the power of the internet, feminism remains strong, reaching a more diverse global audience. With the aid of blogging and tweeting, feminist groups are able to inspire empowerment world wide. Over the years, pop culture has ingrained the value within society, that girls must appease the eyes of men. Girls look up to pop culture icons who demean the value of what it means to be feminist, contorting beauty ideals and scrutinizing the spectrum of body image. We let companies jostle us into believing that a naked cover girl is ‘normal’. We let the discrimination and sexualisation of the female gender go unnoticed, flippantly brushing it off because it ‘happens’. We’ve forgotten about the luxuries our former sisters have provided for us, including voting rights, sexual liberation, and free speech.
In this day and age, girls should not be so afraid of the word “feminist”. Yet, there are few who still remain afraid of the word, who dare not use the word out of the fear of being seen as ‘unlikable’ or ‘unattractive’. Although any girl who says she isn’t a feminist can be dissected to show how much she actually is, it still begs the question: Has society really brought ourselves down to? Are we still falling victim to the thoughts and words of others? The nineties saw grunge in full fledge, where women didn’t wear make-up and certainly didn’t care for the way people saw them as they got things done. Some say that the introduction of pop icons of the 2000’s disintegrated that value. Perhaps it’s just pop culture playing a vicious game, turning us against what we once stood for. Perhaps we’ve ingrained too many terrible love songs into our minds, and pined over too many Rom-Com’s, that we’ve completely forgotten the value of what it means to be a woman.
FEMINISM IN A 14
Pop Culture
We can play the blame game all we want. We can point fingers to who or what killed the feminist dream. But at the end of the day it all comes back to our own choices. We choose what we fall victim to, what we allow ourselves to be subject to. We choose whether we want to uphold the values society has implicated on us, and ultimately, we choose whether or not we’ll let ourselves be objectified. It all comes down to choice, and because of that, it’s not wonder why feminist groups are so vigorous in their attempts to empower girls. The internet allows feminist campaigning to target are larger, more diverse audience through the use of social media. We saw the likes of Facebook crumble under the weight of feminist campaigning targeting the female-hate pages celebrating physical and sexual violence. Watching as the site was forced into action, removing the content. We signed petitions online to remove pornographic and overly sexualised images of girls and women from
magazines and news web pages. We’ve supported the websites against sexism and those who promote change, hash-tagging our own stories in response. We’ve rallied as one, targeting the fundamental issues which belittle women, and we’ve come out with our guns blazing and full of strength, love and appreciation for ourselves, with empowerment in full force. Women are confronting pop culture and resurging as one, reminding others around the globe of the strength of feminism. Feminists are having the conversation, they’re intellectualising others, teaching them what it means to truly be a woman. Although there is still a long way to go, with abuse too being fired back just as ferociously, there is still so much hope. Groups like the Twitter Youth Feminist Army (#TYFA) and Change. org pages are only strengthening the online community, as well as the wider community. We are fighting for our voices again, and we’re only getting louder and louder.

INTERNET ICONS
Want to be insta-famous icon? Here’s what you have to do: 1. Acquire a camera (a smartphone works). 2. Record yourself or anyone around you performing an arbitrary or self-dignifying act. 3. Upload it onto the internet. 4. Wait for the fame to roll on in. Sounds simple? Well, that’s because it is. The internet is an open playing field for anyone who dares play the game. For the average person, it takes is one moment, an idea, and a hell of a lot of confidence, and just like that, they get instantly famous. For some, the fame is just as the saying goes ‘Five minutes of fame’. Take one hit wonder, Rebecca Black, whose fame blew over a weekend when her song ‘Friday’ was released. One minute, she’s a nobody singer just trying to pave her way into the celebrity scene. The next, she’s catapulted across the internet with her career defining song that was subject to both humour and hate. And just as Sunday brings the end of the weekend, so did Rebecca Black’s relevance. Rebecca Black was chewed up and tossed out as soon as her five minutes of fame were exceeded. For others, fame is just added on top of their already existing network of notoriety. These include those who’ve been playing the fame-game for years. They are those who’ve survived every passing storm and hurricane of being both a celebrity have thrown their way. They’re the people whose career and relevance seldom dies. You’ve probably heard the name before, whispered across the streets, across television and plastered all across the internet. You probably don’t really know who she is, or what she does, and if you do, you’ve probably grimaced and wondered how do these sort of people become such prominent internet icons. You’ve heard the name: Kim Kardashian.
Kim Kardashian is a perfect example of insta-fame on steroids. Most people recognize her through her friendship with socialite, Paris Hilton, as well as, through her sex tape scandal. Since then, she’s only received more and more publicity. From her seventy-two-day marriage, to her excessive and raunchy selfies splashed across social media, to her ins and outs of plastic surgery, and marriage to rapper, Kanye West. Kim Kardashian is the poster child for ever growing internet fame. She is an icon, a household name, a deity for a demographic who doesn’t seem to understand the reality of what she actually does. And with over 80 million followers on Instagram, that demographic is only growing. Her social status has grown so far to the point where brands don’t even care which one they get anymore. Plaster the Kardashian name across your brand and you’ve captured the world’s attention. But is that all it takes to become famous? Think about it, the Kardashian’s are not singers, dancers or actors. They’re not artists or designers, inventors or innovators. They’re just people who look pretty for the sake of looking pretty. They’re the sellers of sex and every trashy article you can think of. Kim Kardashian’s five minutes of fame has turned into over ten years of drama and “royalty”. We’ve come to live in a world where bad publicity doesn’t even tarnish the name, rather only make it bigger. We live in a world where a prison sentence lands you book, movie, and TV deals. A world where drugs and alcohol can give you a ticket to the front page of every magazine and social site. A world where bad break-ups and public affairs provide the cash in hand you need for your next meal ticket. Perhaps the real equation to insta-fame, is to: 1. Be friends with someone relevant 2. Do something dramatic. 3. Do another dramatic thing. 4. Continue forever. gURLs Magazine

There is much more than “types of instagram girls” All of what you just read above id not applicable, they are just stereotypes and rules that people made up. Go ahead and put 50 #hashtags on your post. Who cares? You’re not hurting anyone. Evidently, Instagram is not just a tool for amateurs who do not know how to spend their free time. Online Dating
Sorry
you’re just not what I’m looking for... Online dating. A hit or a miss for men and women alike. But maybe more misses than hits for women. Shocked? You shouldn’t be. Now I know what you’re thinking How?! Women have it easy they don’t have to do anything! Men just come to them! But that my friend may be the problem, for it is not all about the amount of men who come for them, but it is how they come for them. And boy do they come, armed with their best oneliners, pickup lines and compliments you might even be lucky enough to stumble upon a well established and beautiful man or woman trapped while working aboard and they just so happen to need your help getting back home. So is a woman’s “luck” as desirable as men think that it is? It is proven that women receive more messages -no matter the level of attractiveness- than men. Sounds good doesn’t it? But what if maximum amount of those messages consisted of sexual and fetishised
advances right off the bat, unsolicited ‘dick pics’, requests for nudes and if it wasn’t enough to catcall in the streets opening a conversation with an unnecessarily shallow comment is the online equivalent. This is what most women’s inboxes consist of and scattered very sparsely though out these messages are the nice guys, who don’t necessarily finish last, but just get buried underneath the vast amount of uncalled for and rude messages which ruins the experience for both parties. Online dating has become quantity over quality what started as way to open ones horizons to many more potentially successful relationships has become a quiet hostile environment for women. In the jungle it is important to stay alert and strong, same goes for the jungle that is online dating. It important to be firm and to know what you want not to let the aggressive users sway your standards.

These scammers try to worm their way into your heart posing as people of respectable positions and careers. What is a
“Gamer Girl”? “Gamer Girl”? A “gamer girl” is simply a gamer. They just happen to be a girl. There is no difference between a gamer and a “gamer girl”, except the latter is marginalised by her gender identity. Some gamers like to identify as a “gamer girl”, after all, gaming can be a great way to meet friends with similar interests, and it can be empowering for girls to represent themselves in a male dominated area. The gaming community isn’t always all fun as it is games though. Until recent years, video gaming as a hobby was considered unpopular and kids and adults alike were ridiculed endlessly for said hobby. Female gamers? Out of the question. Barely heard of. Of course, society has grown to be more accepting and gaming is perceived less as a male-only hobby, but the stigma still lingers. Only a few years ago, it was still a big thing to yell
across voice chat “Go make me a sandwich, bitch!” “Get off COD and get back in the kitchen!” – as a female gamer, I’ve learnt to avoid voice chat options unless I’m just playing with friends. Online multiplayer isn’t all offensive, bad times though. When Overwatch first launched, I sat in my friends’ room, sharing a laptop taking turns between games. We heard other female voices coming from the game and made a bunch of friends over one of my now favourite games. It’s also often perceived that girls only play certain types of games, but this is obviously wrong. Just like boys, we have our own preferences on genres and games. Whether someone plays Animal Crossing or Grand Theft Auto (or a mix of both), they’re still a gamer.

Expectations vs Reality
As many female gamers might relate to, when starting a new game (typically adventure based), I would always look forward to character creations and designs. I personally could spend hours editing finer details on a character or reading up on concept art - so as a girl gamer it can be a little disheartening when you’re expecting some pretty epic armour and outfit designs when your character only appears in skimpy outfits designed for the male eye.
Of course there’s nothing wrong with women wearing revealing clothing, however it crosses a line where the design can be simply impractical for going into battle. Armour should be used to protect the body, not reveal skin all over. As Stephanie Bendixsen (2016), video game critic for ABC says in reference to a Metal Gear Solid character in a skimpy bikini due to her ‘breathing through her skin’ - “It’s not a game that women can identify with or feel good about.”

cyberface With great advancement in technology, comes great responsibility. We all have a responsibility to make sure our words and actions are with the best intentions. But with technology advancing, especially online with social media, there are people who think they can get away with harmful words and actions, because it is done behind a screen.
gURLs Magazine

This has lead to cyber bullying - bullying or harassment that is conducted by the use of technology. For example, on the Internet, or on a mobile phone. The Do Something Organisation (n.d.) states that, “girls are almost twice as likely as boys to be both victims and perpetrators of cyber bullying. This is because of the expectations that are placed upon females in society, which increases when technology is involved. They are judged on their appearance - what kind of clothes they wear, whether the clothing is too revealing or not revealing enough, how much make-up they wear, their weight, their height, or their outside appearance in general. They are judged on their behaviour their views on different subjects (especially if it is political), and their interests. If they do not look like how society thinks they should look like, or how society thinks they should act, they will be torn apart by negative comments.

Cyberface
On social media websites, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, what females post (text, images, or videos) can be criticised by anyone as it is public (unless they adjust their privacy settings for how much people can see on their accounts). People can screenshot and save what has been posted and spread it around to show other people, use it against the victim, and can use it as a threat against the victim. Any gender can cyber bully females - not only males as it may be mostly seen as to be the case. Females also cyber bully other females for various reasons - such as jealousy or to make themselves seem more superior. But if females are cyber bullying other females, how is cyberbullying towards females meant to stop if they are attacking each other. It sets a bad example for how females are treated online. This then could let other genders, such as males, to think it is okay to cyber bully females and to continue doing so. Those who cyber bully females do not realise the affect that it has on the victims.

If you believe this’s your Mr Right, don’t be shy to ask him. But be careful, go with your friends when you meet your online friend as you don’t know what he wants to do after the date.
Gaming I can’t believe how does the girl love playing game so much! That’d be cool if the girls are sitting in front of the computer in the Internet café. To me, I want to see how are the boys and girls playing the same game and how are they going to win? Most people would think the male is better than female, but I don’t think female always being the loser. I knew some of my female’s friends love playing games and sitting next to the male in the Internet café, the male would find they had lost a sense of pride if females won the game.

Cyber Bullying Online bullying always happens in anywhere, and anytime when user using the Internet. Sometimes people don’t respect it when they leave a comment, as well as they don’t need to take their responsibility if it is against the law. If this case happened to you, please delete all the posts that you’ve uploaded on the social media and reject all the devices around you. Don’t worry about the people who said to you on the Internet, please don’t be afraid to let your friends or family members know, otherwise it gives you a hard feeling for that.
Beauty Have a good beauty will build up your self confidence when you’re standing out in front of people, and you’ll love it if people are appreciating with your makeup, clothing and hairstyle. However, some people would like to cover up the imperfections and plastic surgery for features that cannot be covered up by makeup. I believe male would love to see how would you to build up with the clothing and makeup shows how beautiful you are. But if you consider to have a surgery, it’ll cost a lot, and it won’t be perfected as you wanted.
Pop Culture Sometimes when I look at the magazine cover, I’d love to see the person behind the story such as her career, lifestyle, experience, etc. To show the audience that she’s the famous icon in the world. How to influence the younger age to intertwine with the pop culture? Media? Fandoms? Or feminist icon? For the reason why you want to buy it because most of the people are using it, and it makes you to follow by the pop culture. For example, smartphone. Popular culture is everywhere, it prefers by the mainstream population.
