A MESSAGE FROM THE ASSOCIATE DEAN On behalf of the students, alumni, faculty and administration, thank you for taking time to learn about the Georgetown Master of Science in Finance program. The Employer Guide to MSF Talent provides an overview of our career services program and describes opportunities for employers to connect with MSF students and alumni. Our program’s innovative approach to teaching and learning sets our talent pool apart from other master’s programs in the following ways: Depth: The MSF dives deeper into finance concepts than most MBA programs, focusing on the skills and competencies that financial institutions, consulting firms, businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, and others require for specialist or leadership roles. Diversity: Our students span the recruitment pipeline – from those just entering the field to those primed for c-suite positions. The diversity of our talent pool means you can recruit for positions across your organization ranging from intern to senior executive. Geographic Advantage: Our technology-intensive format allows our students to live and work across the United States and around the world while completing the program. This means you can fill positions across your organization’s footprint and not just within one city or office. Talent, When You Need it: Most of our students study part-time, often working while in the program. Our students are highly mobile and ready to take on new career opportunities at any time during their MSF studies. This offers you the advantage to recruit when you need to fill positions throughout the year. The team in the MSF Career Services Office looks forward to working with you to identify the right talent for your opportunities. Please contact us to discuss your needs and to establish a recruitment strategy that will work for you. I am confident that when you engage with our students, you will see the tremendous skill and talent that we do.

Executive Presence Through Georgetown’s global network, our students connect with and learn from executives and leaders whose real-world experiences add depth to our academic program by exploring concepts learned in class through the lens of today’s business challenges. Our Executives in Residence are leaders in consulting, investing, FinTech, and government, healthcare, and nonprofit finance who help students complement each other.

MSF Career Course The MSF Program strives to ensure student employment readiness. Through our optional career course, students explore career opportunities through group exercises, selfawareness activities, and one-on-one career and leadership coaching. The curriculum focuses on foundational business, communication, leadership, and career management skills necessary to secure an internship for full-time employment.

MSF Summer Clinics Our intensive eight-week summer clinics, available to both full-time and part-time students, provide an internship-like experience that focuses on real-world business challenges in areas such FinTech, consulting, and investing. This program allows participants to gain new work experiences they can leverage to pivot or enhance their career.

TALENT for EVERY OPPORTUNITY MSF students are prepared to become leaders in finance, consulting, and business with the skills, knowledge, global mindset, and passion to work through pressing current and future business challenges. For the purposes of recruitment, our students fit into the following categories based on experience:

Pre-Experience Students admitted either directly from an undergraduate program or with less than two years of work experience are classified as pre-experience students. These students typically are looking for summer internships or direct-hire positions and are likely to search for these during their first semester in the program.

Entry-Level Students admitted with less than five years of work experience are classified as entry-level for recruitment purposes. They are likely seeking access to development programs, opportunities to pivot from their current role (which could be unrelated to finance), or seek to move into a new role with a company of choice.

Established Career Professional With an average of seven to 10 years of work experience when they join the program, a majority of our students already have established themselves in their careers. These students pursue the MSF degree to secure positions of increasing responsibility, pivot into finance (either from a related or unrelated position), leverage their previous experience to move to a new industry, or develop a deep skillset to be competitive in a future search.

Senior Professional Some of our students come to the program with more than 10 years of work experience. These seasoned professionals often are looking for opportunities to grow – either vertically or horizontally within an organization. Some may seek to leverage the MSF degree to pivot to a new industry while others seek to become more involved in specialty areas like M&A.

“Our students’ education and experience meet the rigorous requirements of today’s growing companies. Our graduates bring to employers a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership experience, and a global perspective that informs their day-to-day decision-making. As an executive who has hired many staff throughout my consulting career, I can confidently say that the graduates of the MSF Program at Georgetown are well prepared for today’s complex and fast passed work environment.” William Spinard, Ph.D. Senior Executive in Residence

Connect with MSF Students

MSF students succeed in the marketplace because of the academic rigor of our courses, the real-world connections built into the program, and the recognition by employers of the importance of a deep bench of finance, consulting, and business skills. Our program’s unique format allows us to engage with employers differently than traditional graduate business programs. The next few pages highlight the best options for connecting with our MSF talent.

Virtual Company Chats

Summer Clinics

Connect with our students without leaving your office! Our students are eager to learn about different companies to assess how they might “fit” into various open positions and company cultures. Since our students are dispursed geographically across the globe, the easiest way to build your company’s brand with our students is through a virtual company presentation or informal “company chat.” Contact our office to schedule your virtual information session.

We seek to partner with companies for our Summer Clinics program. These eight-week internship-like experiences pair students together in small teams to work on complex projects for corporate partners. Projects are led by our Executives in Residence and culminate in a presentation of findings and recommendations to senior leaders within each sponsor company. The experience is an excellent opportunity for organizations like yours to tap into the MSF’s international talent.

Connect in New York or D.C. Today’s global job market encourages students to relocate to best leverage their degree. The MSF Program hosts an annual MSFinNYC event that brings together alumni, current students, and industry experts in panel discussions, company visits, and networking receptions. Similar programs are offered in Washington, D.C., during on-campus residencies in August, October, and April. We invite your company to engage with our students in New York or D.C.

Georgetown Fall Career Fair MSF students have access to on-campus employer presentations, information sessions, coffee chats, and the university’s on-campus career fair held each September through our partnership with other career centers on campus. In addition, we partner with organizations across the country that hold online career fairs and information sessions that are perfect for students outside the Washington, D.C., area. From specialized career fairs for veterans to lunchtime webinars discussing an individual company’s culture, the ability to connect with employers helps MSF students establish rapport and build relationships with recruiters.

HIRE a HOYA Our Recruitment Schedule

Post a Position or Internship

Our students are not bound to specific recruitment calendars. The flexibility in how, when, and where our students learn ensures they are able to change jobs at any point during the program. Some may search for a new position upon admission while others may wait until after graduation to make a change. We welcome employers to engage with our students at any stage in the program.

The MSF Career Center partners with other career centers on campus to utilize Georgetown Handshake as our job posting platform. When you post a position on Handshake, you can designate that you want to consider master’s students. This will open the position to MSF students, as well as other qualified master’s students across the university.

On-Campus Recruiting

(April, June, August, and October) We encourage our corporate partners to schedule customized on-campus recruitment sessions during times when our international student population will be on our Washington, D.C., campus. This unique opportunity allows both employers and students to learn about each other in a focused, personal format – maximizing the impact and return on your company’s recruitment efforts. Contact us for available dates.

Highlight Openings in the MSF Jobs Digest The MSF Career Center connects our students and alumni with available positions. In addition to utilizing Handshake, we also actively source positions for our twice-monthly MSF Jobs Digest. This publication allows us to share positions related to finance, consulting, and general business from a variety of job search platforms. If you have a position you are seeking to fill, we are happy to highlight it in our Jobs Digest.

Contact Us Georgetown’s Master of Science in Finance is the only specialized finance program in the country with a devoted Career Services Office dedicated to supporting the professional success of our students. Our mission is to connect students and employers as they establish rapport and build relationships that are mutually beneficial.
