Cider and craft-style pints for all Originally known for its great-tasting cider products, Thornbury Craft Co. now produces craft beer in a historic, retrofitted building in Thornbury. On June 3-5, Thornbury’s grand opening celebration featured a dinner, brunch and trivia with John Eaton. Guests were invited to tour around the facility to see how these wonderful brews come together. Jayden Grahlman, Michael Nyman and The Other Band entertained the folks all weekend with live music as the crowd sipped their samples on the patio.

For nearly 20 years, The Georgian Triangle Humane Society has provided loving care and shelter to the homeless, hungry and injured animals of the South Georgian Bay region. But, their ability to continue is in jeopardy. With a growing population, a building bursting at the seams and global economic events putting an enormous strain on underserved segments of the community, pressure to safely deliver programs for pets and people mounts. So, on May 26th, Tatham Engineering in Collingwood hosted an information day for Georgian Triangle Humane Society supporters to announce their partnership in developing the new GTHS building next door to their office. The Team at GTHS is embarking on a $14 million fundraising campaign to build a new 19,200 square foot Regional Centre for Pets and People on five acres of land in Collingwood, with over $2.7 million already raised. The new facility will be a destination for all ages, enhancing the wellness benefits of the human-animal bond. For more information: www.gths.ca. PHOTOS | STORY: BRYAN DAVIES PHOTOGRAPHY. BUSINESS PROFILE:
CREEMORE FOODLAND
Fresh food.Friendly neighbours. Sim Spry, his wife Ashley, and their two children took ownership of the Foodland in Creemore on June 1st, 2019. Sim says it feels like it was a lifetime ago he first took the long winding drive down County Road 9 leading to the beautiful village of Creemore. It wasn’t more than a few minutes of driving down Mill Street and seeing all the tastefully decorated shops and restaurants sprinkled with waves and smiles from the locals that Sim knew this was the perfect place to call home.
Sim said the company slogan “Fresh Food, Friendly Neighbours” is exactly what appealed to him and how he attempts to operate his business every day. “Bringing fresh quality food to our community is always our top priority,” Sim says, “I am personally grateful every day for the people of Creemore for welcoming me and continuing to support us; without the local community we would not be here so we try to do as much as we can to give back.” Foodland (previously IGA) has been proudly servicing the community of Creemore for decades and had that familiar feel and smell that reminded Sim of the store he used to shop in as a child. A few years later and after a complete top-to-bottom renovation, Spry feels the store has the same homely neighbourhood feel but now with big-city offerings. The store prides itself on being a full-service experience complete with breads and desserts baked fresh daily, hot, and cold ready to eat meals, fresh sliced deli meats and artisan cheeses to go along with fresh high quality locally sourced produce, in-house butchers and a small but mighty grocery department that tries to have whatever you may need. At just over 10,000 sq feet, Creemore Foodland is much smaller than your average grocery store, but what the store lacks in size, they make up for in specialized service.
Foodland heavily focuses on its relationships with its local suppliers and is a huge part of the business. Whether it is New Farms’ delicious organic salads, local honey from local bees, fresh produce from farms we drive by every day, Millers Dairy with their world-famous Jersey milk or any of the other dozens of local suppliers and vendors, Foodland prides itself on being the destination for local. Much of his time owning the business has been during pandemic years; Sim is extremely excited for a beautiful summer full of festivals, BBQ’s and, most importantly, visiting with family and friends. Sim hopes anyone who finds themselves in the area will take the time to visit the beautiful village of Creemore and make a quick stop at Foodland for some local products and friendly service!
At our store, you get to speak to the butcher whenever you want, so you can ask for advice, and he can carve you a roast or cut you a steak exactly to your liking. Cutting our own meat in-house allows us to show off our creativity and make customer favourites like store-made sausages, home-made burgers and hand-crafted kabobs. In addition, the small-town friendly neighbourhood feel makes the store so inviting to locals and visitors.

CELEBRATING 7 YEARS IN BUSINESS!
Ted Yoannou: In Your Corner Love is Love Let's go outside In the Sunshine I know you want to, but you can't say yes
Darcy MacLeod, RHI, CBI, NCI, CMI WETT Certified #11142, Member of OAHI, ASHI, NWIR
Let's go outside In the moonshine Take me to the places that I love best "Outside" by George Michael There was a woman I met in the 1990s when I was a young lawyer just getting started. She was a little older than me and was a great mentor and friend to me in those years, professionally and personally. We both got engaged and married that decade, attended each other's weddings, and went on to have children, sons and daughters, as well as dogs that we would walk together. We drifted apart over the years but kept in touch. Then one day she called and struggled to find the words to tell me that she was gay. This devastated her marriage and had a profound effect on her relationship with her children. And even well afterwards, I don't think she ever was able to bring herself to tell her parents; they never knew their true daughter. A few years later, my 14-year-old son had a role in his high school's performance of The Laramie Project, a powerful and moving play about the true story of Matthew Shepard, a 21-year-old young gay man, the victim of a senseless hate crime murder in 1998. The play examined the different attitudes of the residents of a small Wyoming town and how they variously coped and reacted to this crime and trial, a mirror held up to our broader western society.

We invited my friend to come to watch the play with us, and she met my son and many of the parents and students in attendance afterward. The play was incredibly emotional and warmly received. I think of that evening often and recall my friend saying something to my son along the lines of, "I wish I could have been 14 years old like you in 2016 and not in 1976 like me." (Author's note: some of the details above have been changed for privacy.) Histories like this, and powerful plays like The Laramie Project, movies like Moonlight, songs like Streets of Philadelphia, and series like It’s a Sin (and thousands of other books, songs, documentaries and films) hammer home the overwhelming sadness in keeping personal truths secret for fear of public disapproval and attack. During these summer months of Pride celebrations, it’s instructional to think back to Pride’s origins in the 1960’s as a political protest movement, an acronym for Personal Rights in Defence and Education and how today it promotes self-affirmation, dignity, equality, and visibility. Not shame or negative stigma, but pride. Pride for everyone. We've got to hold one another

SUMMER SAFETY
Stuart Ellis Pharmacy 169 Hurontario St., Collingwood, ON 705-445-4711
Stay safe this summer It's finally summertime! The sun is out, the temperatures are rising, and the beaches are calling our names. But before we can enjoy all that this season has to offer, we need to make sure that we're taking the necessary precautions to stay safe. Stay hydrated this summer. One of the most important things to do to stay safe during the summer is to stay hydrated. When we're out in the heat, our bodies can lose a lot of water through sweating. This can lead to dehydration, which can be dangerous. So make sure that you and your family are drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day. It's important to drink fluids even if you're not thirsty, as thirst is often a sign that you're already dehydrated. Avoid sugary drinks as they will actually make you more dehydrated. If you don’t love plain water, consider infusing it with fruit. Or, switch it up and add coconut water for an electrolyte boost and refreshingly delicious drink that is better for you than other sweet beverages. Some foods high in water content are fruits and vegetables like watermelon, cucumber, strawberries, tomatoes, celery, and lettuce. Take breaks in the shade if you start to feel overheated or dehydrated.

Avoid heat stroke. Heat stroke can also be a serious risk during the summer months. Heat stroke is a medical condition that can occur when the body overheats. The symptoms of heat stroke include flushed skin, headache, dizziness, nausea, and confusion. If the body temperature rises too high, it can lead to organ damage and even death. Heat stroke is most often caused by overexposure to heat, either from the sun or from physical activity. However, it can also be triggered by certain medications or medical conditions. Drinking alcohol can also increase the risk of heat stroke, as it impairs the body's ability to regulate its temperature. Treatment for heat stroke includes cooling the body down with cool water or ice packs and getting medical help as soon as possible. If you think someone might be suffering from heat stroke, it is important to act quickly to avoid serious complications. The sun is at its strongest during the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., so it's important to take extra care to avoid overexposure during those times. If possible, stay indoors during the peak hours of sun activity, or make sure to wear protective clothing and use sunscreen if you have to be outside. At the very least, try to stay in the shade as much as possible. Working or playing in direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day can put you at risk for heat exhaustion, dehydration, and sunburn, so it's best to avoid it if you can. By taking some simple precautions, you can help ensure that everyone enjoys a safe and fun summer season.

Swim safely this summer
Approved Veterans Provider
Swimming is a great way to stay fit and have fun, but it's essential to be aware of the risks. It's a shame that people still take unnecessary risks when swimming, despite knowing the dangers. Every year we hear about those who die from drowning while enjoying this fun activity and it can happen to anyone at any time if you're not careful! People drown while swimming in pools, lakes, and rivers every year. While most of these deaths could have been prevented with proper safety precautions, many people still take unnecessary risks when swimming.
Adding Life to Years...
One of the most important things to remember is never to swim alone.
It’s What We Do
There should always be someone else around in case of an emergency. It's also a good idea to swim in areas designated for swimming and have lifeguards on duty. Avoid swimming in areas with no lifeguard present, as these can be more dangerous. Designating an undistracted "water watcher" to keep an eye on your group can help detect a swimmer in trouble.

In addition, be sure to pay attention to the weather and water conditions before swimming.
When swimming in open water, it is vital to be aware of your surroundings. Make sure to check for signs of current or undertow before entering the water, and always swim with a buddy. In addition, be sure to follow any posted rules and regulations, such as avoiding closed-off areas or designated for diving only. If you are swimming in a pool, always stay within arm's reach of the edge and avoid diving into shallow water. Finally, be sure to take breaks as needed, and never swim while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. By following these simple safety tips, you can help make sure that your next swimming adventure is a fun and safe one.
SWIMMING SAFETY
For example, if the weather is bad or the water is rough, it's best to stay out of the water. Also, be sure to wear proper safety gear, such as a life jacket, when swimming in bodies of water where there is a risk of drowning.

eat. play. love The Love family live and breathe pets, both yours and their own. Pets have been part of their family from the very beginning. As Adam Love tells it, “We have always been involved in and had a passion for pets, especially dogs. Growing up our family bred English Mastiffs and competed in confirmation shows all over Canada and the U.S. Dog training, showing, and pet health are common interests that my family shares.” Dogs led to other pets as family members acquired new friends. The family menagerie currently includes seven dogs, birds, snakes and fish. And, that’s just today. The younger Loves have had pets of every shape and description for all of their lives. Growing up with large dogs, and lots of them, taught the family a lot of the knowledge they share with their customers today. When she opened a Global Pets Foods in Collingwood, Janet Love started a family trade. Cancer Chat The 10th Canadian conference on ovarian cancer research (CCOCR) was held in Ottawa in May. The conference involved participation from over two hundred researchers and trainees involved in all aspects of ovarian cancer research from Canada, the US, and even Brazil. In addition to scientists, clinical researchers, graduate students, and fellows, this year, the CCOCR brought the patient perspective to the conference, including patients like Donna Pepin, an ovarian cancer survivor and patient advisor for Ovarian Cancer Canada (OCC). In 2006, Donna Pepin, a resilient and inspiring woman from Toronto, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. You may recall Donna was featured in the February 2020 issue of Cancer Chat telling of her role in the OCC initiative to lobby the Federal Government for money to support ovarian cancer research. They won the amendment, and in March 2019, the Federal Government announced a $10 million investment to support Canadian ovarian cancer research. Donna continues volunteering with the OCC and is the voice of ovarian cancer patients across Canada. Donna has a rare subtype of ovarian cancer called low grade serous ovarian cancer (LGSOC), which is common among younger women. Upon diagnosis, Donna underwent firstline treatment consisting of chemotherapy with carboplatin and paclitaxel, used for treating all ovarian cancers. Unfortunately, her tumours did not respond. What is now being realized is that one-size-fits-all treatments for ovarian cancer do not work. Ovarian cancer is now regarded as a disease with many subtypes. Research has shown that LGSOC are slow-growing indolent tumours that respond poorly to chemotherapy. During the interview, Donna told me, "The only thing worse than an ovarian cancer diagnosis is a diagnosis of rare ovarian cancer, like low grade serous. But ,OCC aims to change the lives of women by finding new treatments for these rare diseases." An archaic treatment paradigm highlights an urgent unmet need for treatment strategies for rare cancers. Unbeknownst to her doctors in 2006, Donna's tumour cells carried an activating KRAS mutation often observed in LGSOC, which contributed to chemo-resistant disease. In 2006, Donna was prescribed letrozole, a medication used for the treatment of breast cancer, which starves the tumours of estrogen required for growth. Fortunately, Donna's tumours shrunk by over 20% and have remained stable. Donna's current role with OCC involves developing patient engagement. "In the past, the term 'patient engagement' was just a buzzword, but now, it's happening in real-time," she says. Donna is the co-lead of OCC's Patient Partners in Research (PPIR) team, which refers to the inclusion of cancer patients or public laypeople affected by cancer as partners in the various stages of the research process. Patients are embedded in decisions affecting research which aims to increase trial efficacy. Donna
enforces the essentiality of understanding the biology to the other patient partners to enable effective communication between PPIR and scientific panel members. Patient partners must undergo basic biology training and an understanding of cancer literature, completing course modules on the science of cancer. The program brings the lived experience of the patient to research and medicine. In a recent initiative, the OCC has partnered with the Cancer Research Society (CRS) to include patient partners in the grant review process. Alongside her fellow PPIR, Donna is a member of the review panel for clinical studies involving ovarian cancer. The PPIR team reviews proposals written by physicians and academic groups submitted to organizations like OCC. Patient opinion can hugely impact decision processes, including influencing the physician's rating of a proposal. Donna says, "Doctors even change their scores based on the feedback the patient partners are providing."
Rob and his staff believe in patient focused care. We are also big supporters of our community. We strive to provide excellent, friendly customer service.
Come on in and have a look.

For example, Donna tells of a research proposal submitted to investigate the benefits of a specific diet following surgery and chemotherapy to treat ovarian cancer. The physicians on the panel felt the proposal was well written, very clear, and properly structured; they scored the proposal very high. However, the patient partners did not agree and immediately saw flaws in the study design. Following the first-line treatment of chemotherapy, a cancer patient can be very sick and possibly unable to eat at all, let alone follow a strict and specific diet. The physicians on the panel did not consider this aspect of the trial. Thus, the patient perspective is extremely important to the success criteria of clinical studies such as these. How to prepare for drought in advance Drought is becoming a more frequent problem. When drought occurs, it is now more severe and pervasive than it once was, underscoring the importance of planning for drought before it occurs.
not as high. If possible, hand water during these times of day or set irrigation system timers to do so.
Government efforts to combat climate change, which NASA indicates is behind the increase in drought over the last two decades, might produce large-scale change needed to protect against drought. There are steps homeowners can take to prepare for drought before it occurs.
Lawn mower blades raised at least three inches encourage grass roots to grow deeper and retain soil moisture. That can help lawns survive drought without much intervention, including extra water during times when water restrictions are in place.
Check your well pump regularly Homeowners who have a well pump on their properties should check them regularly for leaks. If the pump turns on and off while water is not being used, it has a leak. Addressing the leak promptly helps conserve water, which is one of the most effective ways to combat drought.
Raise the blades on your lawn mower
Dry conditions are more common today than they were 20 years ago. That reality means homeowners must plan ahead as they try to help their lawns and gardens survive drought.
Plant native species Native plants are adapted to the local climate and soil conditions. That means they will require less water and will be hardy enough to withstand heat waves in areas where high summer temperatures are the norm. Reseed lawns with drought in mind When reseeding a lawn, consider the potential for drought. Individuals in areas affected or likely to be affected by drought should plant droughtresistant lawn seed. Drought-resistant grasses can withstand prolonged periods without water. However, consult a local lawn and garden professional before reseeding to ensure the grass will thrive in your area. Devise a wise watering strategy to take you through the dog days of summer Water-efficient irrigation systems can protect flowers, plants and shrubs during prolonged periods marked by little to no precipitation. In addition, less water will be lost to evaporation when watering during early morning or evening hours when temperatures tend to be less extreme, and the sun is

How to add shade to a deck or patio Homeowners eagerly await the arrival of the warm weather so they can cast off the remnants of cabin fever and bask in the sunshine. However, as summer nears its dog days, the same sun homeowners once-coveted can contribute to uncomfortable conditions in outdoor entertaining spaces.
KITCHEN CABINET PAINTING
Homeowners who want to enjoy their outdoor spaces in an array of temperatures can think about investing in shade solutions. Sun-blocking ideas like awnings, shade trees and large umbrellas can help people enjoy their yards all day.
Refinish existing cabinetry or install new doors, hardware, sinks, counters, even add to your existing cabinetry

Awning Awnings may be stationary or retractable. Many are installed directly onto a home and can cast shade on specific areas of outdoor entertaining spaces. Canopy A patio canopy is typically a freestanding unit that can be installed over a patio or a deck. Some people prefer to bolt it down so it will not be knocked over in windy conditions. The fabric on the canopy can be removed during the offseason, helping to improve its longevity. Shade sail Similar to an awning but a bit less structurally rigid, shade sails are large pieces of triangular fabric installed over areas of a patio, pool or landscape. Shade sails are light and airy and can be customized.

Patio umbrellas Umbrellas can be paired with patio tables, while stationary cantilever umbrellas sit out of the way on their own heavy-duty stands. A cantilever umbrella tends to provide more shade than patio table umbrellas.

Trees A natural way to increase shade in a yard is to plant more shade trees. If sun glare is an issue all year long, and it's not just the sun's heat that is troublesome, think about planting evergreen trees. Deciduous cousins will drop their leaves in fall and only be effective during the warm weather.

Warm weather means more time to relax outdoors. Summer provides plenty of opportunities to enjoy the fresh air under the sun or stars for those lucky enough to have entertaining spaces outside. A well-designed yard can provide a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Over the last few years, families have become especially familiar with what works about their yards and where there is room for improvement. Pandemicrelated travel restrictions and stay-at-home mandates resulted in plenty of time spent in backyards on staycations. Even though such restrictions have been lifted, homeowners may have seen the benefits of having functional respites right outside their doors.

Provide outdoor atmosphere Create a bespoke bistro vibe by using freestanding planters and posts along with hanging lights to make an intimate outdoor hangout spot at night. For those with permanent structures, like a deck or a gazebo, lights can be strung across the area or on railings or edging. Carefully select plants and hardscaping elements You can create an outdoor space that is both beautiful and functional. Start by considering your climate and the amount of sunlight that your yard receives. Then, choose plants that are well-suited to your local conditions. Add a few focal points, such as a water feature or a fire pit, to create an inviting atmosphere.

Create living privacy
HOME & PROPERTY
Living in close proximity to neighbours may make privacy harder to come by. Wood or vinyl fences, however effective, may not provide the all-natural look many people desire. Vertical gardening, which trains easy-care vines like English ivy, Clematis or various climbing roses to grow on trellis or fencing, adds greenery and privacy. Hedges and fast-growing shrubs also can be used for natural barriers.

Extend the living space Decks and patios can help make outdoor entertaining areas more comfortable by eliminating the need to sit on the grass or gravel. Plus, they add another “room” to the home. When paired with weatherproof patio furniture, such as sofas, loungers and tables, a private seating area can be crafted and utilized for any number of entertaining desires.

THE FUTURE OF POWER IS FUEL-FREE HYBRID POWER SOLUTIONS All Hybrid Power Solutions products are designed, developed and proudly assembled in Canada, using the safest battery technology available on the market. Most systems have a payback period of 8-12 years. “Not bad when you consider most systems are designed to last 20+ years,” explains Francois. The company also offers smaller, portable power packs perfect for RVs, boats and cabins. Now, Hybrid Power Solutions is taking it one step further, launching its franchise network and rolling out warranty-backed solar system installation services from coast to coast. “The current market is filled with small players using different products with varying degrees of quality and service,” shares Francois. “We saw an opportunity to streamline the process and offer an end-to-end service that customers can trust.” Is there anything better than sitting on a dock during the summer, looking out over the lake with a cold drink in hand? With the wind in your hair and the sun on your face, your day-to-day worries can feel like they are a million miles away. The last thing you want to stress about is access to reliable electricity.
With Canada’s growing clean tech industry and incredible advancements in battery technology, finding an efficient, green power solution has never been easier. “When people are out on the lake or at the cottage, they want to enjoy the peace and quiet,” says Francois. “That’s what we offer. Clean, reliable electricity, wherever and whenever you need it.”
Francois Byrne, the brains behind Toronto-based company Hybrid Power Solutions, has spent years developing and perfecting backup power and replacement solar power systems for off-grid or net-metered homes and cottages.
“We believe that access to clean, reliable energy should be easy and affordable,” says Francois. “Our systems require no fuel and no maintenance. You simply wire it in your home and let it do its thing!”

Popular insect repellant plants Homeowners choose plants for their properties based on several variables. Some may be into growing their own foods, while others desire their gardens to be an awe-inspiring mélange of bright colours and alluring scents. In addition, some plants offer extra benefits, such as repelling insects. Insects can be a nuisance and a threat to individuals’ overall health. Insect-borne diseases are viral and bacterial illnesses that develop from insect bites. Mosquitoes, sand flies and fleas are some examples of insects that can pass on disease. Fever, chills, headache, and muscle soreness are just a few of the more common symptoms linked to insect-borne diseases. The good news for avid gardeners is that certain plants can help repel insects and provide additional benefits like fresh food and aesthetic appeal that so many people love.

Fleas, flies, mosquitoes, and moths are not fans of this aromatic and colourful member of the mint family. Bees tend to be drawn to lavender, a durable plant that many garden centers recommend in areas prone to drought or hot summers without much precipitation.

Basil The aroma of fresh basil is enough to compel any gardener to make a place for it in their garden. There’s more to fresh basil than its scent; as the Farmers Almanac notes, it can be used to repel mosquitoes and moths.
Reach customers by focusing on your local market
Mint Mint is another plant that is instantly recognizable for its aroma. But, mint lovers may not realize that it’s also great for keeping ants at bay. Mint also can be used to repel mosquitoes, but gardeners with no experience planting mint should plant it in pots. That’s because mint is an especially aggressive spreader that can quickly take over a garden. Separating mint in pots can prevent it from bullying its way into other plants’ domains.

Chrysanthemums Chrysanthemums repel a range of insects, from bedbugs to fleas to ants, as border plants around a home. That’s because they contain the natural insecticide pyrethrin, which can serve as an insectrepelling boundary around a house. Insects are unwanted guests around home each spring, summer and fall. Certain plants can help repel insects and serve as an eco-friendly insecticide alternative.

A Solstice party to kick off summer The Creemore BIA invited families and friends to celebrate Summer Solstice on Mill Street on June 24th. Folks brought their cutlery and enjoyed a community picnic by visiting the shops and restaurants and enjoying a cash bar on the street. Kids made sustainable crafts, floral crowns and took part in a fairy hunt. Musical vibes were provided by local musicians as well as an Indigenous Drummer and Storyteller. It was a magical evening to celebrate the beginning of summer. “The BIA is delighted to see an end to pandemic measures and welcome everyone back to our community. Our community has been so supportive in shopping and dining locally over the past two years that this is a great way to thank them,” said Laurie Severn, BIA President. Say a big hello to Barnaby, the GTHS Pet of the Month! Barnaby arrived at the GTHS all the way back in the beginning of March after being found outside. The GTHS team refers to Barnaby as a “Spirit Cat” because he is a little undersocialized when it comes to being around new people and places. A slow and steady approach with him is best! A nice thing to know about him is he loves to be brushed, and some nice gentle brushing would be a heck of a great way to start bonding. Once Barnaby is all settled in, he has quite the playful side to him. You can check out the video on his adoption profile. Barnaby asks that he can be in a home with humans 14-years or older! Barnaby is also in the Special Paws program because he has allergies. He does need to be on special cat food.

Rick and Tracy recognized the rapidly changing restaurant landscape during the pandemic and saw an opportunity to create a new model; Saucy Artisan Pasta was born. Their first location opened in Thornbury in 2020. After selling out almost daily, Tracy and Rick decided to scale up to meet both the demand of their regular clientelle and the many requests from local restaurants and stores interested in carrying their quality pasta. As a result, Saucy Artisan Pasta’s new flagship store and Pasta Factory opened in Cranberry Mews in Collingwood in the winter of 2021.
Other specialties include in-house fresh baked daily demi-baguettes and Rosemary Foccacia, made-from-scratch Tiramisu, Fresh Lobster and Ricotta Cannelloni, Jumbo Stuffed Spinach and Ricotta or Beef Stuffed Shells, Lemon Biscotti, Fresh Shaved Parmesan Reggiano, Brie/Walnut/Pear Ravioli and much, much more. Selections change daily. Hot take-out food is coming to the menu this summer. Saucy Pasta is also the exclusive regional distributor of Magiccann Pain relief topicals.
Welcome, Saucy Pasta 2.0
Saucy Pasta offers a vast array of over 30 varieties of fresh pasta shapes and flavour infusions, made fresh daily, ranging from traditional to unique and novel. They create a dozen different sauces - made from fresh milled tomatoes - not a concentrate like most restaurants use. Saucy creates handmade ravioli, cannelloni, and four varieties of lasagna, assembled daily from scratch. Rick’s penchant for premium ingredients includes using specially sourced non-GMO flour, spring water, sea salt, local free-range eggs and chicken, local pasture-raised beef, and local, seasonal produce.
Saucy’s fresh lasagna is legendary. There are eleven layers: five layers of herb and garlic-infused sheets, five layers of sauce, ricotta cheese in the middle, finished with a layer of mozzarella. Four varieties made daily: Vegetarian, Fire Roasted Red Pepper, Beef Bolognese, and Chicken Breast Cacciatore. Fresh, frozen, and gluten-free are available. If you prefer to make your own lasagna, fresh lasagna sheets are available.

The selection changes daily, as do the daily specials - usually posted on Facebook and Instagram. Saucy’s fresh-milled tomato sauces are prepared using premium San Marzano tomatoes slow-cooked with fresh herbs and produce. Meat sauces use premium, local, naturally raised meats and premium fresh seafood.

THESE LOCAL BUSINESSES CAN HELP YOU WITH YOUR DRIVING NEEDS
Easily forgotten road trip safety tips Getaways come in many forms. A getaway can be restful and relaxing, whether it involves a journey to a small island thousands of miles from home or a favourite campsite just a few hours away by car. As the world gradually emerges from a pandemic that put travel on the back burner for billions of people across the globe, people anxious to get away from home may finally feel comfortable seeking getaways that don’t involve air travel. If the open road beckons you in the months ahead, the excitement ahead can make it easy to overlook certain safety measures. The following are four easily forgotten safety measures to keep in mind as you head off for parts unknown. Have your vehicle serviced before hitting the road. The pandemic significantly affected people’s driving habits. Millions of people spent the pandemic working remotely, and many have continued to do so even after being vaccinated. As a result, total driving distances fluctuated throughout the pandemic. Though driving may have increased as the pandemic wore on, it’s still a good idea for drivers to have their vehicles serviced before a road trip. Request a full tune-up that includes an oil change, a battery check and a tire rotation. These services and other maintenance tasks like fluid refills can reduce the likelihood of breakdowns and reveal any issues that might make driving less safe. Determine if your vehicle is the subject of a recall. Recalls are issued if a safety issue has been uncovered since a car hit the market. Recalls are fixed free of charge, and it’s best to look well in advance of a trip to ensure you have time to take the vehicle in for its update. Get used to driving with accessories on the vehicle. Summer road trips are typically taken with bicycle, kayak or luggage racks attached to rear windows or the top of the vehicle. Drivers unaccustomed to having those attached to their vehicles should make a few trial runs so they can get acclimated. Backing up with bike racks on the back of the car can be tricky for novices, so a little practice with the bikes on the back may be helpful. Drivers who intend to tow campers also may benefit from a little pre-trip practice. Pack a map. Though maps have long since fallen out of favour due to the availability of GPS, people travelling to remote areas may find their smartphone signals fading in and out as they get closer to their destinations. A map can help road trippers overcome service interruptions and arrive at their destinations on time. Road trips may be especially popular this summer. Some simple safety measures can ensure drivers and their passengers stay safe.

To make the dressing, combine the oil, vinegar, mustard, garlic, salt, ground pepper in a bowl or mason jar. 2. Place the baby spinach, arugula or chopped romaine lettuce in a large bowl and toss with 1/3 to 1/2 of the salad dressing. Place on 6 salad plates. 3. Mix the sliced strawberries with 1/3 to 1/2 of the remaining salad dressing and divide the strawberries evenly on top of the greens on the 6 salad plates. 4. Top each salad mound with some of the cheese or cheese alternative, torn basil leaves and slivered almonds. Serve immediately. ENJOY!
Did You Know?
Hard to believe, but just eight strawberries contain more vitamin C than a single orange. Strawberries are a great source of potassium, manganese, folate and dietary fibre. They also contain phytonutrients which offer antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits.
