EEGOG R GLES I have always enjoyed reading Get it magazine (I like the new look too!), but I’m writing in regards to a disappointing Y article written by new commentator, Mr Beer Goggles, in your September issue.

I really enjoyed reading his article until I reached the part where he discussed his views on marriage. At the beginning of Mr Beer Goggles’ article, he made it clear that he’s a bloke-y man, which is cool, but when he broached the topic of marriage he exposed himself as nothing more than a selfish boy who is afraid of commitment. His girlfriend deserves to be treated better and he’d better watch out because a “top chick� like her won’t hang around forever if she comes second to a car and has to keep picking up a drunk boyfriend from the pub at 4am every weekend. Mr Beer Goggles’ views on marriage are distorted and disappointing. I was especially upset to read, “why would I want to ruin all that with a big old piece of paper that says I have to conform to this and do that� and “the effort far outweighs the result.� My husband and I are both 27 and we have been happily married for six years. Marriage is a wonderful institution and I believe that the result far outweighs the effort.He needs to man-up and marry his girl!

I’m a Survivor

I would like to thank you sincerely for publishing an article in Get it at the end of last year on Grace Gawler and her work with people being affected by cancer. My 27-year-old daughter was diagnosed with cancer in April 2008. The type of cancer she has is traditionally regarded as difficult to treat in main stream medicine. Even though we are very thankful for her current oncologist on the Gold Coast who offered her treatment that helped her to survive a very difficult last year, we found a clinic in Germany through Grace, where our daughter has been receiving treatment this year. This type of treatment is not offered in Australia. The treatment consists of the latest scientific medicine plus the addition of supportive treatments to help her body to heal. Now her condition is �stable�, no new tumours or growth. Now she has regained a good quality of life and is feeling and looking very well. Thank you again for your publication on Grace Gawler and her work. If my husband had not seen it in cafe somewhere in Runaway Bay, we wonder how different our lives would be.

NE of my friends called me recently to tell me she was pregnant. It’s her first and she’s been trying for like, over six months (which is decades when your horomonal clock’s ticking like the Hiroshima bomb). Of course I was all elated and stuff that she’s up the duff, but naturally, one of my first reactions was, ‘Are you going to find out the flavour?’ “No. We would rather wait”, she said all smug-like, knowing full well I’m a must-have-it-now kinda girl. I never wait for anything. Open my presents early. Eat desert before dinner. And always, always have to have it – anything – right NOW. Hence my needing to know the sex of my best friend’s baby while it’s in utero (even if she doesn’t) as opposed to the ‘wonderfully gushy surprise’ when it pops out in nine months’ time. Save it for the hallmark cards, love. Patience isn’t a virtue that has ever been in my posession.

‘Well, couldn’t you just ask the sonographer (or whatever those people with the baby scanning thing are called) to send me the results?’ I pleaded. She laughed, if not a little uneasily for my liking. She thought I was joking. I wasn’t. My friend’s a doctor. A pediatrician actually, so that makes her a knower-of-all-things-baby-related. Except the sex of her baby. I give up. She simply will not relent on my insistence which means one thing... armfuls of lemon, white and yellow little stuff for ‘it’. And a long wait for me.

My other BF made me wait nine months to find out what each of her three little darlings were when they hatched and I tell you, it was nine months of hell. For me, of course. The same girl was able to savour her Easter egg the entire month of April when we were kids.

Nibbling tiny bits off slowly each day like an Easter chocolate starvation camp – when I’d scoffed mine down before breakfast. On Easter Friday.

Babies aside, this month, we’re hosting another of our fab Great Long Lunches. The last one was so huge we had to call in extra tables just to fit them all. And with social commentator Mia Freedman as our guest speaker, this one’s gonna be even huger. Yes, that is a word. I said so.

I’ve followed Mia my entire media career. She’s been like a mentor, an idol to me... although she was never actually aware of this fact (trivial details, reader) she’s an incredible woman who in her career, has amassed more than most of us would in an entire lifetime.

I can’t wait to meet her and gush all over her with my gossip like we’re the besties I’ve always thought we were (in my head at least). And I bet she found out the sex of her babies too... because you know, waiting is impossible.

From model, to actress, to TV presenter, singer Erika Heynatz has done it all. Now, the talented bombshell and winner of celebrity TV talent show It Takes Two, has released her debut album Sweeter Side.

I

t was one of those moments in TV, when Erika Heynatz stared down the barrel of the camera and belted out her version of the Nilsson/Badfinger classic ‘Without You’.

Little did Erika know, she was about to embark on of her life-long dream, music.

After winning the first season of Channel Seven’s celebrity singing contest It Takes Two in 2006, Erika seemed certain of a career in music. The striking blonde had more than proven her vocal dexterity with impressive renditions of ballads like Phil Collins’ ‘Against All Odds’ and yet it’s taken some four years for her debut album Sweeter Side to see the light of day. Was there any ever-present pressure to pump out a jumpy set of covers SuBo-style? “I think I’ve been really fortunate in that there was never any pressure for me to do that. The record company really insisted I take as much time as I needed to find my sound and shape my ideas. There’s no joy in rushing something,” Heynatz told one newspaper.

“I was lucky that the A&R (artists and repertoire) team really pushed me to write with a diverse set of writers ­— I wrote here in Australia and travelled to London, Los Angeles and Texas, writing with people who’ve done rock, electronic music, all sorts of stuff. It was about learning how to steer a writing session in a way that I could express what I wanted.

It was a trial and error process, in a way.”

Sweeter Side’s lyrics were inspired by relationships, loneliness and separation... the perfect summation of all that is treasured in the world of adult pop.

Like any kid growing up in the ‘80s, there was the fixation with Madonna. Erika was drawn to the Queen of Pop’s “style and energy” and spent hours singing into her hairbrush, eminating her hero. It wasn’t until grad school that she decided to take it further. While studying design at university, she joined an a cappella workshop before hooking up with a choir full of ‘Con drop outs’. Not being able to “read the dots”, Erika learned by ear and her love of the creative process saw her drawn to artists who had, as she calls it, “a certain spirit”.

“There are a handful of strong iconic singers that I loved and was inspired by. People like Annie Lennox, who is a music and fashion icon. I’ve always really loved artists who have crossed over to other things, they’ve done

films, and worked on soundtracks… somebody like Gaga looks out and invests her energy into other areas. There’s a fearlessness to the artists I admire. KD Lang, Sia and Suzanne Vega inspire me. They’re very direct and honest; I find their work raw, powerful and full of integrity. That’s what I am hoping to achieve as an artist.”

To bring Sweeter Side to life, Erika set off to the UK, on a song-writing mission. She had a hand in almost every song on the album, working with Steve Booker (Duffy), Phil Thornalley (Pixie Lott, Natalie Imbruglia), Chris Braide (Cheryl Cole, Kylie Minogue) and our own Mark Sholtez.

With her new album’s tracks written, Erika found herself in Los Angeles at legendary Village Sounds recording studios.

Engineers regailed tails of recording Fleetwood Mac in the very same space, while Paul McCartney’s drummer Abe Laboriel Jnr, set up his kit in the engine room. Behind the control desk was John Alagia (John Mayer, Liz Phair and Ben Lee).

“The atmosphere in that studio makes you want to roll around on the leather lounges and soak it up,” she laughs.

“I was really keen to have a strong acoustic sound. I wanted the vocals to be strong and not too processed. I wanted the instruments to have presence.”

But it was her sojourn with producer Andy Zulla in Texas, who’s previously enjoyed success with Kelly Clarkson, where Erika added a pop sheen to her earthy milieu. “It’s an organic record,” Erika admits. “But very much a pop record. Lyrically, it’s simple and direct in its intentions. The sentiments are pure and honest. If you listen to ‘Kingdom’ there’s a real open-heartedness to that song, it’s a joy to sing.”

And then there’s ‘Bullet’. “There’s something about the attitude and playfulness of the song that I can relate to,” she says. “It stands out on the album. It’s about being struck by love, and not playing a victim. Other songs on the album cover relationships, love, betrayal, loneliness, separation and desire. This is a love song, but it’s a light-hearted warning from a woman who doesn’t want to be messed with!”

I Came to Say Goodbye – Caroline Overington It’s 4am. The car park outside Sydney Children’s Hospital was quiet as a young woman pushed through the hospital’s front revolving door. Staff would later say they thought the woman was a new mother, returning to her child’s bedside – and in a way, she was. She walked into the nursery, where a baby girl was sleeping. CCTV footage showed the woman walk across the car park, toward an old Corolla, and for one long moment, she held the child gently against her breast and, with her eyes closed, smelled her. She clipped the infant into the baby capsule, got in the car and drove off. That’s where the footage ends.

But it isn’t where the story ends.

It’s not even where the story starts.

Rudd is not a name typically associated with chick-lit. Political supremacy followed by a fair/unfair shake of the sauce bottle comes to mind, but high heels, the sisterhood and romantic mishaps, not so much. One member of the Rudd clan, however, is seeking to diversify the family name. Jessica Rudd, daughter of our former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, has done what many ex-lawyers (and lawyers) threaten to do. Written a novel. Campaign Ruby, the novel features 28-year-old Ruby Stanhope, an English investment banker who is fired from her job. She protests about her treatment in an email to the bank’s board and drops the word “nincompoops”; the email goes viral and ends up being reported in the Financial Times. Ruby deals with the misfortune by getting drunk and booking a non-refundable ticket to Australia.

While others might use the time to relax, Ruby has a narrative to satisfy and is recruited by a man she meets at a party to be a financial policy adviser in a federal political campaign.

On March 2, 1998, 10-year-old Natascha Kampusch was snatched off the street and bundled into a white van.

Hours later she found herself bound in blankets and locked in a dark cellar for what was to be the start of her horrific nightmare. When she emerged eight-and-a-half years later, her childhood was lost forever. In 3096 Days Natascha tells her incredible story for the first time, detailing exactly what happened on the day of her abduction, her imprisonment in a five-square-metre dungeon, and the mental and physical abuse she suffered at the mercy of her abductor, Wolfgang Priklopil. Ah, so many names for such an offensively brief piece of fabric that can turn a humble male from hero-to-zero faster than you can say, James Bond’s abs of steel emerging from the ocean. Chuckles aside, scores of blokes – other than the world’s best spy – are donning their 14cm piece of lycra at a beach near you.

While Europe is home to the budgie smuggler, an alarming rate of DTs are making their appearance at our local surf spots.

You thought they were just the domain of sporting athletes didn’t you? Sadly, Speedos are frolicking around with gay abandon, in all shapes and sizes – some are even garnished with a thickly-lined hairy overhang.

If you’re even slightly squeamish, look away now as we’re about to go into unchartered Speedo territory – the mental picture of which some of you may never recover. Men who dare to bare the brief – from metrosexual gym junkies to Greek love gods – and

even the odd wannabe PM. (Abbott’s Speedo could have even cost him the big seat. But just quietly, I’d rather see him in a pair than his redhead oppo).

Me, you ask? Well, I’m a boardies bloke.

Speedos have their place in the lap pools of seasoned athletes but outside the Commonwealth Games time trials, wearing a pair of togs the size of a hanky is giving too much away.

It takes confidence to pull off a pair and while European blood runs thick through my veins, I’ve long resisted the nut grip because of the constant urge to stick my finger in to fetch them from climbing up my nether regions after every step.

I’ve heard they’re meant to be like a push-up bra for boys. Do women want to see a bloke strolling the beach in a slug hugger? Unless you’re a slave to the gym, pumping iron like your life depends on it and crunching your way to a six-pack to rival Batman’s rubber ones, the trunks should stay off display.

I asked a mate of mine what she thought.

Her answer was brief, to the point and subtle. “No way, not ever.

HEN is it okay to tweet semi-naked pics of yourself for the whole world to see? Uhhhm, when you’re hot dang mum-of-three Demi Moore (the 47-year-old actress whose bod is in better nick than most 17-year-olds), that’s when.

It’s not the first time Hot Mama Moore has let a piccie of her fine derriere go viral. A few years back, hubby Ashton Kutcher posted a saucy shot of the actress bending down to pick up the washing off the floor, wearing nothing but her undies and a smile (well, you couldn’t actually see the smile but waking up next to him every morning, I’m sure she has one permanently).

She’s totally okay with her sexy self. In fact, so happy in her macrobiotic-dieted tight skin is she, that she wants us mere mortals to check out what she sees in her bathroom mirror every morning.

Prancing round in a snakeskin bikini last week, she caught a sneaky peek of her hot self and thought you know what I wanna share this… with everyone! Then she did what all Hollywood celebs do to get noticed. She posted it on Tiwtter. Gossip sites bagged her out as a self-obsessed teen and not a responsible mum in her late 40s. That’s the domain of Miley Cyrus and Audrina Patridge they said. Exsssscuse me! Who are they kidding?

Demi is one of the few women in Hollywood who has managed to straddle (excuse the pun) the great gaping canyon of an age gap between her and her hunk-a-spunk actor hubby. And hold onto him. For like, ages.

Really, if you’ve got a bod as hot as she does, you’re quite selfish not to share it with the rest of the world, if we’re being honest here.

At 47, and having pumped out three kids you know, like, the old fashioned way of growing them inside your own womb, this girl has definitely got it going on. Just let her be I say and strip away, lil’ lady, strip away.

The shades on inside maybe looked a bit silly when you’re holding on to the bathroom sink but perhaps she had panda eyes from the night before.

You have to feel sorry for her, she’s got it tough. It’s not easy having a hubby who’s sixteen-odd years your junior, an ex undies model and an international superstar (and spunkalicious hunk). Since leaving her ex-hubby Bruce Willis – himself way past his‘80s hey day – to eat her dust, the Charlie’s Angels knockout has continued to climb the hot meter in her fourinch stilettos. After trading him in for a much better, updated model, with hair five years ago, she’s gone from mum to hum-dinger!

I’ve long been a fan. She had me at ditto… all watery eyes and denim dungarees. Fast forward a decade or two, when Hollywood discovers botox, mass cosmetic surgery, super healthy diets and you’ve got Demi 2.0 – the even hotter version.

For her reprisal role in the skin flick Striptease, she apparently forked out a whopping half a mil to get her body looking superfine. If I had to get my bits out in a film that wasn’t hiding in the back of a seedy adult shop, I would too.

The son of NRL legend Wally, Brisbane star Lincoln Lewis considered a career in professional football, momentarily. But acting won him over.

It was, and has always been, his true passion.

H

aving just debuted in his first big feature film role for Tomorrow, When the War Began, Lincoln Lewis can probably safely say his days of having to be thick-skinned in the face of rejection are over.

The action movie – a film adaptation of the acclaimed John Marsden novel – opened with its Queensland premiere at the Australian International Movie Convention on the Gold Coast in August.

Lincoln, now almost 23, says he remembers very well his pre Home and Away days of attending never-ending auditions and having to face up to rejection. “Not getting jobs audition after audition just sucks,” he says indignantly. “You have to be very thickOctober 2010

skinned when you start out in this business.

So although I’m very excited about this movie and believe the movie really does justice to the books (which I have always loved), I try not to get too far ahead of myself over what success may or may not come in the future.

“Ultimately I’m just grateful to continue working and I look towards great actors like Guy Pearce who has done very well for himself, but still remains a very nice person who is also quite humble in his outlook.”

Lincoln has now been cast as the support role alongside ex Neighbours soapie and screen stalwart Guy Pearce who plays the lead in another upcoming movie, Mei Mei. Hesitant to reveal too much detail about the

story behind the movie, Lincoln admits he has been the subject of much gossip regarding his physical shape for the role.

Critics claimed he was ‘in his element’ doing stunts on the set of Tomorrow, having been spied doing regular intensive workouts which worked his upper body, biceps and legs.

Now reportedly cast as ‘someone quite lean’ in Mei Mei, Lincoln is said to have been undertaking five two-hour training sessions a week, alongside surfing, swimming and weight training.

In reality, he says, with an average of 12 hours a day on set, as happened during Tomorrow, ‘finding time to train can be very difficult.

‘Really, I am grateful for whatever I can get in terms of exercise,’ he says. ‘When the trainer or nutritionist comes in for a one hour session in between scenes, I do the best I can to make the most of it. And with the spreads the catering departments lay on for breakfast, I really need to make the most of it!’

Keen to downplay his achievements, Lincoln attributes his success to ‘good oldfashioned luck’ and a solid family background.

The son of NRL king and sports presenter Wally Lewis, he says his parents, brother Mitchell, 24 and sister Jamie Lee, 20,‘have always been a very close-knit lot’.

“Whenever I’m not working, I’m home with my family in Brisbane. I’m very fortunate that they have always been so supportive of me.

Of course, dad was a real inspiration to many on the football field but at home, dad was just dad to us and didn’t act any different. That’s worth it’s weight in gold. I have always been taught to stay grounded in what I do and that’s not going to change going forward in my career.”

Like Geoff Campbell, his alter-ego in Home and Away for three years, Lincoln has played football all his life. While he did consider following his father and pursuing a career in professional football, acting has always been his truest passion and one which he pursued from the beginning.

for himself and by 15, got himself a job as an extra in a commercial for Dreamworld.

He has featured in movies Aquamarine, alongside teen-sensations JoJo and Sara Paxton, and the low budget horror flick Voodoo Lagoon which was filmed at Movieworld, in between smaller TV roles, and a stint as a presenter.

Living locally in Broadbeach and then later on in Burleigh Heads with his family, Lincoln keeps the Gold Coast lifestyle dear to his heart, despite the family now living in Brisbane. “Surfing with my mates is one of my greatest passions out of work and even just being close to the water gives me a real sense of calm.”

Lincoln says he keeps good company both in the acting world and outside it, most importantly friend David Jones-Roberts, who plays Xavier Austin in Home and Away. “David is a top bloke and we bonded from the start.

like that and keep grounded.”

But this success can’t all be down to luck?

“I don’t know, I think it is. I never take anything for granted and I try to make the most of every job that I do – it’s cliché to say, but the more you put in, the more you get out.

“The main thing in the acting world is persistence. Everyone has to take a lot of knockbacks and there is certainly no such thing as an overnight success. You just have to keep working on your craft and realise you can’t afford to let it slip. That, plus don’t let the rejections get you down.”

With further adaptations of Marsden’s seven-book series tipped to hit the screens if Tomorrow is a success, Lincoln looks like he’s got the right attitude.

unshine Coast local Vanessa Bryce is the creative mind behind Veve Glamour Swimwear and recently launched her latest collection, Carnival – glamourised bikinis inspired by the sexy shores of Brazil.

The demand for her itsy bitzy bikinis from fashion conscious customers has been so high, Vanessa decided to go online and make her pieces accessible to the public.

Since its launch in 2004, Veve has become a must-have for some of the world’s most beautiful women including Tara Reid, Joanna Krupa (voted sexiest swimwear model in the world) and Big Brother’s Krystal Forscutt as well as bikini pin-up girls themselves, Hef’s playmates of the Playboy mansion.

Get it spoke to Vanessa about her latest collection and what inspires her to create the stunning pieces worn by some of the world’s most glamorous women.

How long have you been designing swimwear?

I started designing for myself and for friends about 15 years ago, and decided to start my swimwear label Veve Glamour Swimwear 2004.

Where does the inspiration come from?

My inspiration can come from so many different places. I get ideas from the fabrics and jewels that I am sourcing, or from the person I am talking to, or a magazine I may be flicking through. Anything and everything can give me an idea for a bikini. My mind will be constantly searching for ideas when I am designing a new collection, I’m scanning all October 2010

my surroundings and putting ideas together.

What was your first piece you ever designed?

The first piece for Veve Swimwear was a bikini made from a midnight blue velour fabric with a sparkle through it, and it had three hanging jewels from the centre of the top. I loved it!

Is there a type of women you design for?

A woman who likes to stand out and make a statement. A woman that is confident and proud of her body. A woman that likes to feel glamorous and sexy.

Do you have a celebrity following?

The label has been worn by gorgeous celebrities like Joanna Krupa, Tara Reid and The Veronica’s, Ashley Roberts from the The Pussy Cat Dolls.

Are your designs quite popular in the pagent scene?

Veve swimwear is very popular in the pagent scene, because it’s glamorous sexy and unique.

Many of the styles have sparkling jewels which will really stand out and shine on stage.

What are you other passions in life?

My four-year-old daughter Rio, my two-yearold son TJ and my husband Josh are my other passion in life. I also LOVE to travel. I love the beach, the sun and boating with my family and friends. I actually find life itself my passion. I just love life!

H

ow do you find time to balance your career and family life?

To be honest, a lot of the time I don’t. I really do seem to live a large part of my life in an unbalanced state. But, like all working mothers, you learn to cope and to find what works best for you. I wouldn’t swap my life for anyone else’s, so I try to make the most of it. I’ve just learnt to be much better organised and to prioritise more, to ensure I give both my family and my job the best I can, while making sure life is still bearable and a lot of fun. It’s amazing what you can go without and not miss one little bit.

What are your other passions in life?

Reading, the theatre and holidays. These days I don’t get to indulge in all three as much as I’d like, but as a board member of the Queensland Theatre Company, thankfully, I still get to see plenty of amazing live theatre.

I also read the odd book on my flights to and from Sydney for Weekend Sunrise, but it does take me a lot longer to reach “the end” than it used to.

What has been one of the major highlights of your career?

Whenever I’m asked this question, I do find it hard to choose. In the past two decades there have been so many amazing moments, it’s impossible to narrow them down to just one. My great love is live TV and the best times in any newsroom are when stories are breaking and you’re covering events as they happen. During my career I’ve been privileged to anchor or be involved in the live coverage of the Gulf War, the Thredbo disaster, federal and state elections, major bushfires and the Commonwealth Games. Sadly, many of these events have involved tragedy and loss of life, which is the one lowlight of any journalism career.

Where are some of your favourite haunts on the Gold Coast?

I come to the Gold Coast quite a bit, but nowhere near as frequently as I’d like. Often my visit is work related and every time I vow to come back next time for a longer, more relaxing break. My favourite places are Southport and Broadbeach, although any spot of white sand with a view of the ocean is very enticing!

Do you feel as a woman, there is pressure in the media to look good?

Television is a visual medium and, of course, your overall look and presentation will be noticed by viewers. Do I feel pressure to look good? No. But I do believe it’s important to look like I haven’t just rolled out of bed and turned up to work. If you’re going to be invited into people’s living rooms to deliver the

news, you have to earn that right. Looking disheveled and disinterested displays a lack of professionalism and that is hardly going to get you an invitation inside, no matter how good you are at your job.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

Sadly, there are few surprises about me.

What you see is what you get, although I was once told by a voice coach that I had excellent pitch and could be a good singer. I’ve yet to take that so-called “talent” out of the shower, for fear it really is one big myth.

Any guilty pleasures?

Just chocolate. Like most women I could happily eat it 24/7. Thankfully, my hips have a habit of telling me otherwise and I do try to curb the cravings.

Despite all the doomsdayers, she managed to pull off the feat as the youngest solo sailor to go around the world.

Y

ou could say that looking at Jessica Watson is like looking at any typical 17-year-old fresh-faced teenager.

Cheerful and enthusiastic, she is modest about her achievement of becoming the youngest person to sail solo, non-stop and unassisted – more than 24,000 nautical miles – around the world.

She is also very self-assured, with a confidence that from the start, has proved resilient against the well-documented scrutiny surrounding her seven-month epic sailing quest around the globe.

day voyage: her failure to take onboard, a supply of Pringles and tomato sauce!

Underneath her youthful exterior lies experience and courage that many agree is well beyond her years. “Yes I have had a lot of critics out there who told me time and again that what I proposed was completely impossible,” the pretty young teen says with a sigh. “But they just didn’t understand the preparation that was involved in my trip or my background.”

She refers to her collision with a 63,000-tonne cargo vessel, she endured with her boat Ella’s Pink Lady, during a test run sailing from Brisbane to Sydney prior to setting out on her quest in October 2009. “My boat hitting a ship was one of my most scary moments – and of course it had to be a big one! But the good thing was that it made for a great learning experience which made me a lot more alert and which also proved to my critics what I was really capable of. I think after that episode, the criticism died down a bit as they began to realise that I could handle the pressure after all and that the ‘you are too young and inexperienced’ comments were falling on deaf ears.”

Jessica often credits the team behind her when she talks about her achievements, notably the Southport Yacht Club and Sailing Squadron, where she first learnt to sail during a Year 4 summer holiday sailing camp, and also the many businesses located at the Gold Coast Marina. And both of these not only played a big part in volunteering their services to repair the damage to Pink Lady following the collision with the ship, but they were also instrumental in offsetting the negative commentary, that had by that stage, began to mount up about the proposed trip. “The local Gold Coast community made sure that Pink Lady and I were back on the water as soon as possible after the accident, donating everything and working through the night to get repairs done in record speed. They were absolutely awesome and would always give an encouraging wave or nod to me and my family whenever we stepped out,” she says.

“For every negative comment I heard, if felt like there were always two positive ones to offset it from the Gold Coast community.”

Born on the Gold Coast, Jessica is the second of four children of New Zealand couple Roger and Julie Watson, who moved to Australia in 1987. With her two sisters, Emily and Hannah and brother Tom, having lived on board a converted bus as well as a 16 metre cabin cruiser, for five years and home schooled by their mother for much of their childhood, Jessica admits her background was a little different from the norm.

She also balks at the notion that she was pushed into sailing by her parents. “I certainly wasn’t; it was just something that we did as a family from very early on, and which we all loved. If anything, us kids pushed our mum and dad into it. Many weekends would be spent at the Yacht Club, with the kids taking

lessons, racing or crewing while mum and dad spent their time driving or manning the rescue boats. At the end of the day, I would not have been able to fulfill my dream of sailing around the world without the support of my family.

The fact that my parents didn’t wrap us up in cotton wool and gave us independence has really paid off.”

But confidence and sailing skills were not the only things Jessica needed on her journey.

Extensive technical knowledge of every on-board system on Ella’s Pink Lady was imperative. During the seven month voyage,

Jessica completed many repairs to the boat and the equipment, including the battery monitor, the stove, the toilet and the mainsail.

Meanwhile, the wind generator blades also needed replacing and the engine fuel pump needed a repair job too.“It certainly wasn’t all plain sailing out there,” she laughs. “And there’s always even more to learn.”

But she says that the times during which she wasn’t battling with ferocious three-metre waves, horrifying gale-force winds, sleep deprivation and solitude, she surprised herself by enjoying the trip a lot more than she had expected to.

With Jessica’s trials and tribulations now the subject of her new book True Spirit, and also a Network Ten documentary narrated by British entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson, the teenager has had a hectic few months since she arrived back on land in May this year.

In late August, Jessica was announced Ambassador of Tourism Queensland’s 2010 -2011 Season of Sailing where part of her role entails sailing in a series of events, including the Audi Hamilton Island Race Week. “I just love doing anything that will get more people into the sport of sailing because I love it so much myself.”

Alongside promoting True Spirit as part of a tour across the US and Europe, at the time of our interview, Jessica was just about to make further waves with British sailor and friend Michael Perham. Set to race a small 20foot open keel boat Lumix at the Audi Regatta in the Whitsundays with two friends, Jessica admits, ‘it’s a bit strange to sail with others, but great fun’.

However, apart from sailing, more everyday pursuits feature firmly on the agenda too.

earing a tight-fitting Herve Leger dress that hugs her perfect size-eight figure, her long limbs set off by a pair of fourinch Louboutin stiletto heels, Melbourne mum-of-three *Victoria waits in an inner city bar for her client. She’ll be paid a few thousand for her services this evening, so it helps that she has a face like Gisele, with perfectly tanned skin and a thick mane of glossy blonde waves.

She’s 32 and has been doing this for three years. Victoria is a high-class call girl. She is paid – handsomely – to fulfil the pleasures of her male clients. And, comanding a fee like that, it takes many hours and hundreds of dollars a week to maintain.

The young mum turned to the sex-trade when she became broke after losing her job.

“I hadn’t worked for two years. I was broke and had three kids. I was struggling and really down. I used to go out and get drunk, then take some random home for the night,” she says almost angrily.

“I had this friend who always looked immaculate. Wearing the best designer frocks, new handbags draped over her shoulder – but she worked as a waxer in a beauty salon. I asked her how she could afford such luxuries. She told me, ‘I’ll let you in on a little secret…’ and then just like that, I was exposed to her world. She introduced me to her agency, I went and had a meeting with them on the Gold Coast and they took photographs of me, then created my profile.

“And it all began from there... instead of going out and getting drunk every Friday night, then sleeping with someone I didn’t

know for free, I decided to make a living out of it. I’d fly up to the Gold Coast Thursday night and the agency gave me a driver – who would collect me from the airport and deliver me to my clients. It’s safer because at least someone knows where you’ve been dropped off if you get into trouble.”

Victoria can earn up to $5000 a week – and has even been commissioned on an overseas sojourn where she picked up $17,500 for her troubles. And there’s little concern for the tax man tracing her earnings. “They pay it to you on a credit card, you know, so it’s not traceable.”

Victoria’s fee is $1500 an hour – of which she gets half. The agency gets the other half – which covers her driver, advertising and their fee. The agency whe works for has two offices and works out of high-end hotels around the city. But because of the illegal nature of the business, agencies are often shut down and forced to open up either in another city or using different girls.

“They have to change hotel locations a lot because it’s easy enough to trace people when you see the same ones coming through the doors. We are very discreet but staff will soon pick up on it. Home jobs – where you go to the client’s private residence – are more scary because there’s always that risk element.”

Although Victoria acknowledges the hefty hourly rate she earns means she’s often sent to the most affluent suburbs, it doesn’t always mean her work is safe. “You can refuse if you really don’t want to do it and they’ll send another girl but then you don’t get paid.”

Clients can range from wealthy accountants to tradies, bankers, laywers and physicians.

Most often they’re married with children and will just want a break from their mundane lives. But there was one client she simply couldn’t fulfil her job with. “He was 250kg and had a foul body odour. He had dermatitis from his weight and even though he’d paid $2000 for the job, I really couldn’t go through with it. In the end, we just sat there and talked all night. I really felt sorry for him but I think he still enjoyed it. And he paid the fee.”

In her line of work – glamorous as it may seem – Victoria says she often gets offers to become an exclusive mistress or lover to her clients. “I’ve had plenty of guys ask me to be their private or live-in girl but I haven’t taken any up on it yet.” And while most of her clients are married, there is little chance of their ‘encounters’ being traced by a suspecting wife. “When their card is swiped, it comes up as a beverage fee or function hire, it doesn’t say ‘for services of...’ we are very mindful of people’s private lives.”

Working for an agency does have its downfalls. They regularly entice workers to drag out their time with clients, driving up the fee. “They’ll call you before your hour’s up and try and drag it out so that instead of being there for one hour, you might be there for four or five. The agency always wants you to try and extend your time.”

While it’s not the ideal life for a mum-ofthree, Victoria says there aren’t too many vocations that allow that kind of freedom as well as the cash flow. She has a live-in aupair who looks after her children while she’s on assignment – Thursday through Sunday and her work has allowed her to buy a new car as well as putting a large down payment on her new home. “I want to earn about another $150,000 and then I might look at giving up... but it will be hard. You get so used to earning all this cash, it’s definitely a lifestyle.”

And one with risks, she says. “I’ve got clients who call me directly – rather than go through the agency. They’re discreet and cover their tracks so the agency doesn’t get wind of it. But there is a risk when you’re on your own as there’s no back up if things start to go wrong – which sometimes they do.”

Although Victoria’s mother knows her profession, she chooses to ignore it and hopes one day she’ll be able to give up. “My dad actually works as my accountant. But we don’t really talk about what I do.”

Just how long she can sustain this business isn’t certain – with three children to raise and the years ticking by – coupled with the fact Victoria would like to settle down with a guy again one day. “Keeping me in the life I’ve become accustomed to would be hard. I think I’ve got four, maybe five years left in me tops. I’ve had to start seeing a psychologist because it really messes with your mind and I have been through some pretty scary emotional experiences.”

She’s had condoms break, ‘that’s hell.

You have to wait like eight weeks before your tests come back and it can be really scary’ and has been in situations where she thought there was only one client then after her driver has left, another four jump out of the wardrobe. “You just have to follow through with the job and watch your back, be careful not to aggravate them. It’s the nature of the industry. There is a risk and it’s not always as glamorous as it seems. You’re being paid to have sex with men – and sometimes women.

You take the risk to earn the money.”

And not all her clients have been strangers.

“One client was a guy I went to school with. I just did the job and got out of there. He tried to request me as a regular but it’s risky… they can tell other people and then before you know it, your cover is blown.”

Victoria says the upcoming Indy race next month is a popular time for call girls on the Gold Coast. “We earn plenty of money during that period. There’s so much alcohol and drugs consumed over that period that naturally, sex is a part of that.”

Keeping a daily journal of her work means one day Victoria can piece together her secret life in a book. “You never know who does this sort of thing. It could be some perfectly groomed woman you know. But mentally, long term, this isn’t a profession you can stick with. It messes with your mind and doesn’t make you very good potential for future partners. Once I’ve got what I want, I’ll give it up... I think.”

f you can’t make it to Flemington for this year’s big race, then harbourside in The Marine Village is the place to be.

The inaugural Cup Carnivale at Sanctuary Cove is set to be the party of all parties to celebrate the race that stops the nation.

“Our aim was to create an event that was different to the normal race day events that were staged across the Gold Coast. We wanted our event to have a similar feel to the glamourous and very popular Bird Cage enclosure that is so popular on Cup day in Melbourne and our Carnivale theme lends itself to a celebration”, said Tracey.

There’ll be no fashion parades at Cup Carnivale, just a funfilled afternoon with lots of colour, fabulous entertainment and delicious food from Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove.

Staged in colourful nomadic style tents overlooking the harbour, Cup Carnivale will be nothing short of spectacular.

“We’ve got the World’s greatest Kylie Minogue impersonator 100% Kylie as the main entertainment for the afternoon and guests will also be entertained by the very talented Brazillian dance troupe and a live band,” Tracey said.

Guests to Cup Carnivale are encouraged to embrace the Carnivale theme and dress in lots of colour. There’ll be prizes throughout the afternoon and the party will of course stop for the main race.

Cup Carnivale runs from 11am til dark. Tickets are $135 per person for three course buffet lunch, beer, wine and bubbles.

imberley Thrupp, Gold Coast local and notorious Australia’s Next Top Model contestant, proved a ratings goldmine for FOX8. The now-flame haired beauty stunned both judges and viewers alike with an expletive-ridden outburst after being booted from the toprating show. We spoke to Kimberley after her explosive departure to find out what makes this ‘catwalking time bomb’ tick.

Never shy of controversy, Kimberley has always been “that girl” we all knew at school.

The girl who wasn’t afraid to shoot off her mouth at the teacher or bark back at school yard bullies should anyone stand in her way.

The daughter of two true blue Australian parents and a self confessed “Bogan”, Kimberley’s life story reads as Aussie as vegemite and a Sunday barbie. In fact in watching both Kimberly and akubra-wearing independent MP Bob Katter’s recent exploits you could be forgiven for thinking they were related.

Kimberly grew up on a sheep station before moving to Toowoomba. At 16, she packed her bags, high heels and a dream and headed for the bright lights of the glittering Gold Coast.

School became the first of many challenges for the gangly teen. Standing 5’10 with striking model looks, it wasn’t long before the boys were flocking to her. A situation fellow female classmate didn’t take too kindly to. “The boys would follow me around at lunch time it was quite weird,” she quips.

Combine this with a fiery personality and sharp tongue – it was a toxic mix that saw her skipping from one Gold Coast school to the next.

Leaving school behind, one of her first jobs was as an iconic Gold Coast Meter Maid, complete with gold bikini and matching sash.

Kimberley paraded the Surfers Paradise strip selling Meter Maid merchandise of which she made a small commission. She credits this time in her life as, ‘Building my confidence www.getitmagazine.com.au

with the general public, however I hated being used, especially being made to walk around for eight hours in heels’.

Before long the glitter wore off and after failing to show up for work and deliberately defying orders by getting five tattoos inked on her back, she was asked to leave.

This resulted in an ugly exchange with former employer Roberta Aitchison, gaining Kimberley national exposure – the extent of which was played out in dramatic form by local media and on morning program Today.

Kimberley used her sudden notoriety as a platform and set her sights on more prestigious modelling roles signing up for hit reality TV show Australia’s Next Top Model.

Out of thousands of hopefuls Kimberley became one of the 16 finalists. And with over a dozen budding and hormonal models living in one house, things started to get messy... it was inevitable the claws would come out.

“I was completely ignored in the in the Next Top Model house, the girls were very much aware this was a competition and if you weren’t talking about hair or makeup you simply didn’t fit in” she says bluntly. “I believe as the second eldest in the house, I had a maturity that the other girls didn’t understand.

The only girl I got along with was fellow Queenslander Kathryn Lyons who was a real friend and told me to pull my head in when things got a bit much for me.”

Even though Kimberley is aware she was being portrayed as the villain in the series she was quick to defend the hosts of the show. “Things are played up for TV but once the cameras were switched off the crew and hosts simply couldn’t of been nicer. Sarah Murdoch and Alex Perry were so supportive and encouraging.”

In the post-mortem of her scandalous ANTM departure we ask, is this the end? Surely she can’t resist another challenge? After all it didn’t work out so bad for menacing supermodels Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Janice

Dickenson. So just what is next for this feisty female? “I have been approached by Pricilla’s Model management to relocate to Sydney; however I love the Gold Coast too much and am not considering moving at this stage.”

Kimberley is still weighing her options and there’s even the possibility of another competition in the pipelines. “The Miss Australia organization has contacted me, Erin McNaught and Jennifer Hawkins didn’t do too badly out of that so I am thinking about giving that a try.”

The future is exciting at the moment for Kimberley and with stacks of confidence and personality, if she plays her cards right, she could prove to be more than just a sexy scandal magnate.

In a further shocking fall from grace, the troubled actor is in rehab and once again facing assault charges.

t was supposed to be a romantic getaway for two stars with unruly agendas. On the way to Ireland to film his comeback TV gateway, The X Factor, Matthew Newton met up with his stunning girlfriend and fellow actress Rachael Taylor – herself on a break from filming The Darkest Hour in Moscow. But their romantic escapade was interupted after a violent outburst in a hotel lobby unveiled Matthew’s private crusade with addiction, depression and anger issues was far from over.

It is understood the troubled actor was so out of control he had to be sedated after he allegedly punched Rachael in the face and body – causing her to fall and hit her head on the marble floor – and left her battered and bruised in the hotel foyer of Rome’s plush Westin Excelsior on August 14.

And he adds, being a member of one of Australia’s most famous families wouldn’t have helped Matthew’s recovery. “Someone like Matthew Newton, who comes from an entertainment dynasty, is under even more pressure.”

His loving parents have been through it all before with Matthew. But this time Bert and Patti Newton feel they are in part to blame for not stopping their son returning to the spotlight before he was ready.

Appearing on A Current Affair on August 30, Bert and Patti told how they had struggled with their son’s erratic behaviour since he was a kid, and had warned him about it during his relationship with Rachael. “With both of them I said, ‘Be careful, they are young beautiful girls and they won’t put up with being shouted at,” Patti told the 1.7 million viewers who tuned in to watch the interview.

Revealing her son was currently on suicide watch, and had expressed a desire to kill himself “many times,” the showbiz matriarch said bipolar disease had been mentioned by the doctors when Matthew was in his teens, but that he wouldn’t take the medication for fear of stunting his creativity.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Matthew’s been accused of assault and battery against a partner. In 2007, he pleaded guilty to assaulting his then-girlfriend Neighbours star Brook Satchwell.

The blow came at a time when Matthew’s career was escalating, with highly praised roles on comedies Stupid, Stupid Man and Thank God You’re Here. But as soon as the allegations went public, a $200,000 contract

Matthew seemed to be on the right track in tackling his demons, including seeking help at Melbourne’s Malvern Private Hospital (which specialises in a 28-day drug-and alcoholaddiction recovery process) in April. But Paul Dillon from Drug and Alcohol Research and Training Australia says one stint alone is unlikely to fix someone for good. “The chance of someone going in once and coming out cured is fairly remote,” he explains, joining the list of commentators who suggest the star’s release and subsequent high-profile job offer was a sudden and injudicious overload.

During the court case, celebrity lawyer Chris Murphy revealed Matthew had suffered a nervous breakdown and been under the care of a psychiatrist for six years. Ironically, a judge quashed the star’s conviction – despite his guilty plea – because he believed the actor was ‘unlikely to repeat an offence of this nature’.

While Matthew managed to dodge a 12-month prison sentence for that attack, so began what was supposed to be the rebuilding of his career, with a 2008 role as a drug lord in Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities intended to be his big break.

But the psychological problems thought to be behind him when he left rehab in May, having been offered the high-profile TV hosting job soon resurfaced. After the incident, Matthew travelled on to Dublin; where The X Factor’s executives made the decision to escort him home “to the care of his family and urgent medical treatment.”

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old actress, who stood by her man during his last stint in rehab, has taken out an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order against Matthew and is considering further legal action, saying the Rome incident was not isolated.

On August 23, an evening news report claimed Rachael had been found cowering in tears in the actor’s dressing room on the Australian set of The X Factor. The report alleged Rachael was found sobbing in the room, which had been trashed.

“After much consideration and struggle, I have made the personal decision to send a clear public message that violence, threats, abuse and intimidation are not acceptable and should be dealt with by the full capacity of the law,” she announced to the media.

It’s hard to believe now, but in recent months, Matthew appeared to be back on track, working hard on his new role and seemingly happy with his gorgeous partner Rachael. “I have a fantastic, beautiful partner,” he said of his girlfriend. “We talk about everything. We’re partners, so it’s love, life, work and where we’re going to spend Christmas,” he said earlier in the year.

Sadly, it looks like they’ll both be making other plans now…

How do you find time to write and be a full time mother?

How does any woman find the time to do all the things we have to do? You just find it. Steal it from wherever you can! I work most nights until midnight at the moment and things kick off pretty early, around 6:15am. But I have a lot of help – a nanny four days a week and a cleaner and a husband who does more than his fair share (he often does my share as well) so I can’t complain... I still do complain but I shouldn’t! I love what I do and most people don’t get to say that about their job.

In your professional life what has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned?

Um, don’t be in such a hurry? Maintain perspective? Don’t get caught up in external definitions of ‘success’. That’s probably the biggest. When I left PBL after 15 years, I was really lost and had to define myself in a way that wasn’t based on my buisness card.

What are your treasured posessions?

That means not people, right? My computer.

My phone. I have a very intense relationship with my computer. It’s like a handbag to me – it has my work and my social life and my family (in videos and photos) and it’s really like an external embodiment of myself. Does that sound weird? It broke over Xmas, New Year when we were on holidays and even though I didn’t have work to do, I came totally unstuck.

It felt like an arm was missing.

What gives you joy?

My kids, my husband, my friends, my dog, my writing.

Give us an example of your bucket list: Too superstitious to have one.

Who has left the biggest impression in your career?

Eve Ensler – author of The Vagina Monologues. I met her at a Cosmo conference in the Bahamas of all places and she passed on some wisdom that totally turned around my thinking on something that was derailing my life. I wrote about it in my book.

If you could change how women are represented in the media what would you do?

NO MORE DIGITAL ALTERATION. This should also just be called ‘lying’. There are literally NO realistic, un-airbrushed images of women in any popular media or advertising today. What effect is this having on our psyche and what will this do to future generations?

Do you have any guilty pleasures?

So many. One is that I shop at Witchery at airports before I fly anywhere. I can’t help it.

Where do you see yourself in 20 years?

No idea. I’m trying to live more in the present than the future.

Empathy.

How could it not? It’s changed every fibre of my DNA pretty much. It’s affected everything from my wardrobe to the way I write, the way I love, the way I think, drive, sleep... everything.

Would you say you’re competitive by nature or more determined?

A bit of both, I think. Winning is definitely important but as I progressed through my career finding satisfaction in other areas of life became important too. I had a number of injuries and illness throughout my careers so the balance between training hard and recovery became more and more apparent. I’m very determined but not naturally obsessive.

You were recently on Seven’s Dancing with the Stars.

Now how do you rate dancing compared to sprinting?

You also appeared on The Biggest Loser. What’s your best advice for those seeking a healthier lifestyle?

Try not to be sucked into society’s distorted view of perfection, when it comes to body shape. Everyone is different and has individual beauty. Start with small and consistent healthy changes to your diet, sleep patterns and exercise. Make each change a habitual part of your day. You’ll end up with a lifestyle change instead of a short term fix.

Dancing is hard work! I had to go through the routines over and over until it became automatic to me. The problem is though, I’m not a good dancer so I had to do heaps of practice. Although my wife Jess was impressed at the end of the show because I could spin her around the dancefloor.

Do you still get the urge to compete?

I look at some of the athletes I interview with envy and do occasionally wish I was still competing. The thought quickly changes when I consider the amount of hard work and sacrifice that’s gone into getting them to that point, it’s not something that I want or need to do in my life anymore!

On a recent trip to the Gold Coast you visited a home game for the Titans, what did you think of the fans?

I really enjoyed my visit to Skilled Park, the Titans fans are awesome! And the Titans are in great form at the moment. They play a very entertaining style of footy.

Tell us when speed has been to your advantage outside the running track?

My youngest daughter Winter is a little speedster herself. I’m very glad I’m able to chase after her and catch her before she gets into too much trouble.

Nathan Cross, director of Propertyfarm, part of the Wealthfarm Group, gives us his opinion: This is undoubtedly one of the most common questions I’m asked. It’s easy to understand why there is confusion and uncertainty in the market place as there are so many mixed messages out there so how do you establish whether or not now is the right time to buy property?

Prospective investors first need to look at the key fundamentals of what drives price growth within the property sector, one is supply and demand.

Australia is currently experiencing a booming population growth, most of which can be attributed to immigration, but we’ve also

experienced a mini baby boom, particularly in Queensland.

This is combined with the fact that we have a critical undersupply of new housing to accommodate this growth. In fact, nowhere is this more evident than in south east Queensland where the State Government has outlined that the region will require an additional 754,000 new homes over the next 20 years just to keep pace. This equates to 93 new homes per day of which half will need to be multi unit dwellings.

So why don’t we just start building more?

Difficulty in obtaining finance is one of the major issues hindering development at present. The banks have greatly tightened up their lending criteria and most developers are unable to gain finance approval for their

projects. These lending issues, combined with the fact that land is very expensive and local governments’ infrastructure charges are constantly increasing mean that it is often not feasible for a developer to deliver a project and help bridge the gap on our supply and demand problem.

More and more people will soon be competing for the same properties and this will place upward pressure on prices.

The answer to the question though should never change if you view property as a long term investment.

It’s a good time to buy property when you can afford to buy, not just when property is affordable.

When is the best time to sell a house.

Should I sell now, or wait until the market improves?

That’s the big question everyone who sells a house wants to know. And as far as finding a feasible answer, you may as well take to the crystal ball, because it’s a bit of an unknown.

From watching the market shifts over the years and with the experience that brings, you can make a call as to what you think might happen. But it’s never guaranteed.

A lot of other factors also come into play. For instance, your reasons for wanting to sell now. Do you want to sell so you can buy another home, do you want to sell because you have other commitments or do you simply want to sell because of a need to cash up? Each circumstance and reason is different.

If you are thinking of selling now, with plans to buy

another property, then waiting for the market to give you a better price might be a reasonable option.

But the flow-on from that is the price of the property you are seeking to buy will also probably have increased in a better market.

If you want to sell because you have other commitments, then it will be those pressures that are more likely to determine your choice, rather than the market.

Alternatively, If you are under no pressure to sell, and the signs are strong that the market will improve, then maybe you can wait for improvement – although even with those signs, it may not always eventuate.

However, if you plan to buy and sell in the same market, it should be a straightforward deal and you

shouldn’t have to compromise on the exchange.

Whatever option you take, a professional real estate agent can help give you the best exposure, particularly if affiliated to a larger national organisation. This allows your property to be promoted both to the local market and the hundreds of other potential buyers available through the network of national offices.

Mention Liz Hurley and you might as well put sex appeal in the same sentence. Her infamous cleavage and sultry looks have seen her on the cover of numerous fashion magazines, internationally recognised as the face of cosmetics giant Estée Lauder. The gorgeous Brit became a media sensation overnight when she captivated world press and stole the thunder from then-boyfriend Hugh Grant at the premier of Four Weddings and a Funeral, wearing the now legendary attention grabbing black Versace safety pin dress. Since then Hurley’s career has flourished as a successful acting, modelling and producing career.

In the years that followed the episode of “that dress” Hurley’s star has been on a constant rise, landing major roles in several projects, including her breakthrough role in the ‘60s spy movie spoof Austin Powers as uber sexy spa Vanessa Kensington.

With ambitious career moves becoming her forte, she went on to establish her own swimwear line Elizabeth Hurley Beach and most recently a line of organic snack bars.

Mother:

Forging the way for sexy strong single mothers everywhere Liz’s reign of motherhood began with a scandalous scenario. In late 2001, the then 35-year-old announced she was pregnant and named American millionaire and film producer Steve Bing was the father. He issued a news release claiming the couple hadn’t been in an exclusive relationship and that it was “her choice to be a single mother.”

Tabloids in Britain labelled Steve “Bing Laden” and a “spermicidal maniac”. After a media squall, Steve reportly offered the actress a million dollar sum of child support for their son Damian. In a defiant statement, she was quoted that year as saying: ‘Damian and I are managing very well by ourselves’. Adding she was not interested in financial help from her now ex-boyfriend Bing.

In 2007, the brunette beauty married handsome Indian textile heir Arun Nayar in two lavish ceremonies – one at Sudeley Castle in England and the other an outlandish production that lasted numerous days in India.

The Versace-clad bride was accompanied by a wedding party of 16 children, including her son Damian and good friend Elle Macpherson’s son Aurelius Cy Andre. She wore a hot-pink bridal sari and celebrated amongst fire-eaters, camels and dancing virgins. The icing on the cake was Nayar riding in on a black stallion.

The couple have been together since 2002 and share raising her son Damian and live on a 400-acre Gloucestershire estate in South West England. Here she runs her swimwear and gift company, as well as an organic produce company.

A domestic goddess by day and siren by night. she’s not afraid to ask for a helping hand and recently wrote on her twitter page: “Australian Manny in full throttle. Too many kids sleeping over – am paying them to go to bed”. With various television and modelling commitments still coming her way at 45, Liz continues to be phenomenally busy and it looks like this mega woman has no intention of slowing down any time soon.
