CEO of Accessory Diary Productions & Event Director of Boston Chic, Kat Yang.

Kat Yang is the Founder and Face of Boston Chic's fashion show. This fall will be her last hurrah fashion showcase for Boston Chic. Before her last hurrah we got to highlight the event and also give YOU some insight on amazing designers she will be showcasing at Boston Fashion Week this fall. How did you get involved in the fashion industry? "I first started working as a personal shopper. Overtime, this inspired me to start a fashion blog on the looks I was creating with my client while also creating an outlet for general tips about fashion. When I realized how much I enjoyed it , it persuaded me to be MORE involved in the fashion industry. From there, I started volunteering for Boston Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week as a wardrobe and assistant coordinator. I LOVED it. Then, I started my production company that produces shows in Boston area. My first show was at the Liberty Hotel for "Fashionably Late". I am proud to say that it was a TOTAL HIT! Since then, I am now a regular producer for "Fashionably Late" as well as the shows I put on during BFW." What is the premises of this fall fashion show and who are you showcasing this October? "The premises and theme of this show is called Boston Chic. The reason for that is because everybody has different personalities and fashion allows one to show their individuality. You will be able to see the variety of looks from all my designers this fall. Our designer line up includes: The Lucky Onez , VAVA and a few more mystery designers."

Favorite quote:

"I shop like it's my job" #GETSOCIAL: accessorydiary79.blogspot.com Facebook: @Accessory Diary Instagram: @acdkaterineyang Event tickets: Boston Chic Fashion Show Accessory Diary Productions team : Amy Palmacci : Vendor & Event Coordinator and Tiffany Federer: Model & Event coordinator. How do you decide what designers to take on? "I look for originality in their designs. Then I check to see if they have a social media presence and check their following. By seeing comments from their followers tells me people want to see more of them so that’s how I decide which designers to showcase." Since this was the last hurrah what can we expect from you in the future ?! " You can expect Accessory Diary Productions to bring more unique designers and to keep producing amazing shows for the community. We also hope to be global in the future . We are going to launch in New York, Los Angeles & Florida in the near future! " What advice would you give someone who wants to be in the fashion industry? " If you have a strong passion for the fashion industry don't give up. Keep working hard and pursue your dream even if others do not support you."

NEXTonSCENE 6 year old Delaney Cullen Delaney started The Little Garden That Grew Project in North Carolina at the age of FIVE to create outdoor educational gardens outside libraries, schools, and community spaces. These spaces will promote the love of art, literacy & people and inspire others to be stewards of the Earth. We had the pleasure of interviewing Delaney to learn more about how she got started and the goals of her project! Where did the name come from? "The name comes the empowering and inspiring childrens’ book “The Little Engine that Could”. Who is the garden for? "The garden space will be at a public place and therefore be open to the public." Why is your first garden at a library? "Our first garden is at the Mountains Branch Library, in particular, because of the sense of community it brings to us. Plus, the librarian has almost identical views of education, community, and the natural world as we do." FUN FACT: Delaney was nominated by Steve Barr from Drawn to Help. She first met him when she was 4 at one of his library programs, teaching children how to draw. He was impressed with her demeanor for her age. We’ve kept in touch by the way of social media over the years. Steve had since been asked by The Pollination Project to review grant applications for them. Steve reached out to Delaney's family to let them know of his role and if Delaney had any ideas. Delaney's father, John mentioned to Steve her idea.

#GETSOCIAL @thelittlegardenthatgrew

Delaney is BIG on giving back to the community. She and her family are creating a “Free Pantry” set-up outside the garden area where the under served can come and get food. What are the goals of the project? "The goals of the project is to create an outdoor learning environments fostering community and teaching kindness to all living things through the enrichment through environment philosophy."

3 Simple Yet Powerful Ways to Get Inspired This FALL By Relationship Contributor, Laney Zukerman

As the warm summer months come to a close, the Fall season enters. The Fall reminds us of the beauty and inspiration of change. With the Fall Foliage, cooler temperatures, the celebration of Halloween and Thanksgiving in the coming months, the Fall can be a great time for reflection and gratitude. Before the cold of winter hits, why not take time to embrace the changes of nature with some simple changes of your own. Ones that reflect your uniqueness and instill some comfort along the way. Here are 3 Powerful Yet Simple Ways to embrace the Fall Season: ONE. Include nature in your daily life. The Fall weather is often perfect for time outdoors. Make the time to get out in nature in the morning, during your lunch break or a stroll after dinner. Walking, hiking or running will keep you fit and healthy. Go pumpkin or apple picking, visit farmers markets, plan a day to visit antique shops or go for a hay ride! There are dozens of festivals, craft fairs and celebrations in the Fall. Take some photos along the way and create a memory album. Enjoy the beautiful scenery around you and take it all in!

THREE. Surrender to Change. Make this your new mantra. Change is constant and always present in our lives. Allow yourself to embrace even the smallest changes that may come your way and find something positive in each situation, no matter how challenging. Nature changes naturally every minute of every day and so change in our lives should not be feared, it is natural and often necessary. We will eventually see the benefit. Don’t fight it, go with the flow more often and rid yourself of unnecessary stress. Incorporating these small additions to your life can have a very powerful, positive long term effect. One that will naturally bring you more clarity, comfort, joy and health.

Wishing you a fabulous fall season!

TWO. Take time each day for reflection. Each day of the Fall, set aside a few moments to write in a journal, rummage through old photographs, create a vision board of your dreams, post your favorite quotes on the fridge or bake an apple pie from scratch! By taking the time to be mindful of our thoughts and being grateful for your life will give you more purpose and clarity. Do things that bring you comfort and smiles.

NEXTonSCENE NO UV With Founder, Suzanne Amato Have you every been getting a gel or shellac manicure at your favorite spa or nail salon and wondered if the UV/LED lights used to dry your nail polish are harmful? NoUV is new way for you to safely enjoy your gel and shellac manicures. How did NoUV come about? "I can remember going to the dermatologist because I had brown spots or sun spots, on my cheeks. I was curious why this was the case. Especially, since I’d been wearing hats and applying sunscreen religiously for years! My dermatologist told me that those spots were most likely from sun exposure I had received years ago when I was a teenager or even younger. I decided after that to to start doing research and investing in products and peels to turn back the hands of time!" "We spend thousands of dollars on products and treatments for our faces to prevent aging - but do you know that the most accurate way to tell a person’s age is from their décolletage and their hands?"

"No matter the industry or position I’ve held,, I’ve always been a go to source for my co-workers seeking inisght on beauty and skin care products! So, it was only natural that I decided to start my own company." Suzanne Is NoUV re-usable? "NoUV is a safe, recyclable, disposable, one-time-use fingerless glove set that will protect your hands every time you get a gel manicure. Each set of gloves comes in its own packaging, just for you, to make for a hygienic experience. NoUV is designed to be one time use. Hygiene and safety should be high priority concerns for every nail salon. Tools should be disposable or sterilized after each use in an autoclave. NoUV is hygienic and easy. Simply throw away when your polish is complete."

"We need to treat those areas with the same care as our faces. When you get gel manicures, you are exposing your hands to UV rays emitted by UV and LED lights that can age hands by giving you brown spots, wrinkling and can also potentially cause skin cancer." Where can one purchase NoUV? "I started using sunscreen on my hands and found it to be messy and couldn't help but think that my wet sunscreen soaked hands were picking up bacteria that was already in the UV lamp...yuck! So, I then bought a pair of cotton gloves online and wore them a few times before realizing that they shrank when I washed them, or I’d forget to wash them or put them in my handbag and end up in the salon without them. Again, annoying! I wanted an answer, a hygienic way to protect my hands during every gel manicure….NoUV was born!"

"You can purchase on our website, uv-love.com or buy it on Amazon. It is available on prime as well! NoUV is sold in a sleek resealable 5-pack that will last for approximately 2 months of gel manicures. NoUV is also in nail salons in Boston and New York." #GETSOCIAL uv-love.com FB: @Uvlove IG: @uvfornails TW: @beautypulse1 12

Have a plan in place for your wedding when it comes to Finances with Finance Contributor,Nicole Peterkin Planning a wedding is stressful, exciting….and expensive! These days, spending ten or twenty thousand dollars is considered a budget wedding, but the prospect of saving even an extra $5000 can feel overwhelming when student loans are looming and other expenses come into play.

#GETSOCIAL peterkinfinancial.com FB: @peterkinfinancial TW:@financialnp IG:@peterkinfinancial

Realistically, most people don't wait to get married until they’ve saved up what they need to be able to afford the wedding. They cut back what they can, allocate some of their current savings to wedding, take out loans, and pull out the credit cards. It is, what it is!

Having a plan in place for how to pay for your wedding expenses (both before and after you say “I Do”) in light of your other goals is the smartest way possible based on your specific situation.

We hope you stopped by and said hello at the Bridal Expo! For more information and to pick up my list of tips for paying for your wedding smarter get in touch: nicole@peterkinfinancial.com

Two brides with the same income and wedding budget can be in very different places financially in the years after they say I do just based on what strategies they used to find the money to pay for it. Hint: the one who gets ahead financially doesn’t have to spend less of her budget or work harder to pay off her wedding faster at the expense of quality of life. It’s about working smarter with what you have, not harder.

NEXTonSCENE Klassically Kaytee's Gift Guide: Bridesmaids and Groomsmen The venue is booked. The band has the playlist. Final touches are being made to the seating chart. Last, but certainty not least, its time to thank the bridal party for being by your side on the biggest day of your life. Selecting thoughtful gifts is always a challenge, so it should never be left until the end. Personally, I advise the happy couple to start planning for this as soon as possible to allow adequate time to budget, order and package all items that you plan to gift. There are a few things to keep in mind when selecting gifts: price, sentiment and personalization. The wedding budget tends to increase on a daily basis. Don’t forget to budget for bridal party gifts early on. As a couple, decide whether you are going for timeless pieces or more everyday options. Finally, depending on the number in your bridal party, consider the option of a unique gift for each person. NEXTonSCENE Skin Routine from AM to PM! with Independent Consultant , Samantha Conley

AM

PM

1. I live for a steamy shower, but I've learned a burst of cold water at the end helps to close your pores! It also certainly helps wake you up!

2. When applying eye cream, use your ring fingers. They are often the weakest of all the fingers. Gently DAB...don't rub or pull! 3. Because of years of bad habits, I would wear A LOT of make-up before confidently leaving the house. Consistent use of a good skincare regimen like mine, has made for a much quicker morning make-up routine! Your future husband will thank both of us for this...mine sure did!

1. At the very least, remove your make up and wash your face!

2. Use a moisturizer to replenish and firm your skin overnight. 3. One of my favorite tricks from my Nana = silk pillowcase!

What inspired you to take better care of your skin? "As a child, I loved being outdoors. I played outside with friends, played sports, and grew up with a pool in our backyard . I also became a huge fan of tanning salons. Honestly, during the early 2000s, it seemed like the tanner, the better. My mother encouraged us to wear sunblock, but did we listen?! (Sorry Mom, you were right...again!). When I was in college, a high school friend was diagnosed with Melanoma and that's when everything changed."

NEXTonSCENE Maid of Honor tips Yay, Congrats! Someone in your life is getting hitched and they picked you to be their Maid of Honor! Now what? Lists & Getting Organized Being a MOH is a big responsibility, so first thing you need to do is get organized. Start by picking up a fun notebook and making lists. List of fellow bridal party mates, events, things to buy, things to plan.

#GETSOCIAL @polishedandbubbly polishedandbubbly.com

Once the bridal party is set, get all of their contact info: first and last name, address, email address, cell phone number, etc. to have at the ready. Pinterest is key! Create a secret board of all the things you find that you think the bride would like, from color schemes for showers, to funny banners to hang at the bachelorette party. Pinterest is a dream tool when planning ANYTHING! Make it Special As the maid of honor, your biggest job is keeping the Mrs.-to-be sane. But you also want her to feel special. One idea is to start a wedding countdown. You can assign members of the bridal party, family, and close friends a month to remind her how many days are left before the big day with a special gift; a card, flowers, mug, gift card, anything to show up on that day with the number of days left! It’s a simple gesture that will show your bride that you’re looking forward to wedding.

Fun Halloween Recipes with Celebrity Super Trainer, Autumn Calbrese For all you Beachbody lovers like ourselves, you will be excited to know Celebrity Super Trainer, Autumn Calabrese has some fabulous HALLOWEEN RECIPES to share with US! #GETSOCIAL with Autumn autumncalabrese.com What You Do: FB: @autumncalabresefitness 1. Combine all the pumpkin bite ingredients in TW: @autumncalabrese IG: @autumncalabrese a food processor, and blend until smooth. (You may need to scrape down the sides a few times.)

FIRST: Autumn's Pumpkin PIE Bites

What You Need: Pumpkin Bites 1 can pumpkin or 1 1/2 cups pumpkin puree 2 very ripe bananas 1/2 cup coconut sugar 1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ginger 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg 1/4 teaspoon Himalayan or sea salt Whipped Topping 1 can coconut milk- full fat 2 Tablespoons maple syrup 1 teaspoon vanilla or vanilla beans (Makes approx 12 standard muffin sized bites)

2. Spoon the mixture into lined muffin pans. *Option to use silicone liners to lessen chance of bites sticking to paper. 3. Preheat oven to 350. Bake for 20-25 minutes. 4. Let these cool completely before removing from the muffin liners. Since they are soft like pumpkin pie, I highly recommend putting these in the fridge after baking so they can firm up a bit. 5. (For the whipped on healthy blood pressure topping) Open can of coconut milk that has been in the fridge overnight. Scoop the fatty white part off and place in a mixing bowl with the vanilla and maple syrup. Use the whipping attachment and whip the coconut into a cream. 6. Scoop a little on top of each muffin and option to garnish with pumpkin pie spice!

"I know a lot of you are looking for the container equivalent (my color coded portion control system from 21 Day Fix), well not everything fits so nicely into a little box." "This recipe is for sure healthier, it does not container refined sugar, white flour, or gluten. It is also vegan. That being said it is still dessert, it still has calories, it still has fat and it is still meant to be enjoyed on occasion not all the time."

* MUST keep these stored in the fridge. * I highly recommend making the whip topping right before eating for optimal results in taste and texture.

NEXTonSCENE Photobooth Magnets with Happy Guest What's NEXT to have at your Special Event? Happy Guest has got you covered! How does the procedure work? You can get the magnets the same day?! "It’s pretty simple: our photographer moves through the event and takes candid and posed photos of the guests mingling, dancing, and having a good time. Then, we produce beautiful photo magnets on-the-spot, printed with a custom frame that we will work with our clients to design in advance. The custom frame can be any color, and can include text and images! When a batch of magnets are done, we display it on an elegant magnetic board, where the guests can take whichever magnets catch their eye. After the event, we’ll send you all the photo files on a CD, so that you can cherish all the memories of your beautiful wedding!"

What inspired the name of the business? Happy Guest is PERFECT for a special event! "The inspiration for the name of the business is the focus of the business: the guests. When you throw a wedding, you’re doing it not only to honor the couple’s special day, but also to bring people together and have a great time. Our business helps make the party memorable for the guests; they always look so happy and surprised when they choose their magnets!" Do you offer any other services? "We do! We do all sorts of events including bachelorette and engagement parties! For some events, we can make the magnets in advance using photos from a past photoshoot. We also offer save-the-date magnets to send out to guests before the event."

"When someone plans a wedding, they know how much careful thought has gone into it. From the flowers, music , down to the tablecloths and place settings we know how much goes into it. However, despite that person’s painstaking work, the guests (and even the married couple!) can quickly forget the beautiful details of the event. That’s where photo magnets come in! NEXTonSCENE Celebrity Makeup Artist, Emily Moses gives us makeup Wedding Tips! When it comes to what is hot and trending with wedding makeup, my philosophy is that "hot, trending and wedding" truly don't belong in the same sentence! Through the makeup process, you also want to make sure the bride and bridesmaids are still feeling authentically themselves. That is also not to say you can't do a smokey eye or go a little more dramatic. At the end of the day, the absolute most important thing on a woman's wedding day is that it is ALL about her! After being a makeup artist for many years, my number one most important thing before applying any makeup to the face is that the skin looks hydrated and radiant. Personalized Honeymoon Travel Planning Why is it important to go through a travel advisor? Averie Borgaro, Founder of Inspired luxe Travel has got you covered!! "There are many reasons to work with a travel advisor, especially when it comes to your honeymoon. To start, advisors have access to private “agent-only” rates and promotions, not available to the general public. These often include special amenities and perks for our clients at no extra cost! Examples include: contract or negotiated air rates (sometimes lower than published - especially in business and first class), complimentary daily breakfasts, resort or spa credits, upgrades, and/or complimentary romance-related items to celebrate your special occasion, such as champagne or wine and treats on arrival! ” "In addition, advisors are really immersed in the travel industry. It is our job to be “in the know” when it comes to what’s new or “tired,” what’s good or what’s maybe not so great, etc. It is our responsibility to stay updated on property renovations, upgrades, major staff changes, and other circumstances that may impact one’s travel experience. We also spend a significant amount of our time networking and building relationships with hoteliers, suppliers, vendors, brand reps, and other industry contacts. We maintain these relationships to elevate our clients’ travel experiences and to deal with any issues if/when they arise.”

#GETSOCIAL @averie_inspiredluxetravel How long do you recommend to go away for your honeymoon? "It really depends on your jobs, lifestyle, budget, and destination. What you want to do on your honeymoon will also impact the length of the trip. For example, maybe you want to lie on a beach for a bit, but 2 weeks seems like a bit much for that… maybe 6-7 nights is all you need! I would say that a “typical” honeymoon experience ranges from 1014 nights, but again, it really varies on the couple and the type of trip or experience we are planning. Everything is 100% custom-designed and personalized for the client!" What inspired you to become a travel advisor? "During college and in my 20s, I fell in love with traveling and experiencing new destinations and cultures. I also realized how much I enjoyed event planning - organizing details, focusing on logistics, and bringing ideas/plans to reality. Coordinating travel experiences for others is definitely a way for me to do many of the things I love and tend to be good at… all while making people happy!! Making my clients happy really keeps me going… and now it is truly what inspires me to continue learning and growing as a travel advisor." How can people get in touch with you !

What are some top locations to travel for your honeymoon? "Beyond the timeless favorites (which are timeless favorites for a reason and are still chosen often!! – ie. Italy, Greece, and Hawaii), I send a lot of honeymooners to Portugal, Spain, Australia, French Polynesia, and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Bali, Vietnam and Cambodia). But my clients’ goals and parameters can vary quite a bit, so I like to work 1:1 with each couple to make sure we are focusing on exactly what they want… including the destination to start! "

How to Avoid being BRIDEZILLA with Wedding Contributor, Gigi Williams 1. Stick to your Budget: Creating a budget with your fiancé should be your first step in wedding planning. Look into whether your parents will contribute & calculate what you can afford. Spending within your budget will eliminate the burden that comes with the planning process. 2. Communicate: Everyone should understand your expectations. Whether it be finding out if the parents are going to contribute financially, describing your ideas to vendors, or explaining your expectations to your fiancé & bridal party. 3. Utilize Your Bridal Party: Your bridal party is there to stand by you on your very special day BUT also to help you throughout the process. Have them help with favors, invitations, decorations, or vendor appointments. Make it fun by watching wedding movies & enjoying a bottle of wine. 4. Be Considerate: Brides lose sight of this the MOST. This is your big day BUT, this does not give you a license to forget to be kind. Be understanding of your bridal party & family. You want to avoid any displeasure coming though in wedding photos.

The preparation for your wedding can be stressful. Using these tips will help decrease your chances of becoming BRIDEZILLA.

Selecting a trademark is an important business decision. If you choose strong trademarks, you can not only stand out from your competitors, you can also stop others from imitating you.

NEXTonSCENE Trademarking with New York City Attorney, Jonathan Berger

Here are my TOP 5 tips to consider when creating a trademark: 1. Best Words for Marks. Most of you already know strong trademarks, such as “ROACH MOTEL” and “APPLE.” Of course, the mark “ROACH MOTEL” is not about a motel; it is a trap to kill cockroaches. This trademark requires consumers to use their imaginations to see the relationship between the mark and the product, which is a box which catches and kills cockroaches. Trademark attorneys refer to “ROACH MOTEL” types of marks as suggestive trademarks. Suggestive trademarks are strong trademarks. We all know the trademark “APPLE.” The “APPLE” trademark has nothing to do with computers, yet it has become an incredibly famous mark. Trademark attorneys refer to “APPLE” type trademarks as arbitrary trademarks. Arbitrary marks are real-world words that have nothing to do with the products or services with which they are used. Arbitrary marks are strong trademarks.

2. Avoid descriptive words. When clients are choosing trademarks, we advise them to avoid descriptive words. Descriptive words are words that describe the nature, quality, or characteristic of the goods or services with which the marks are used. For example, the term “GOLD” for gold jewelry would be descriptive because gold is one of the characteristics of gold jewelry. For this reason, the word “GOLD” is not a trademark. 3. Avoid confusingly similar marks that sound and look similar to other trademarks. For example, Apple owns a registration for its famous mark “APPLE.” If someone wanted to use “APPLELY” for use in conjunction with computers, Apple is likely to object and prevail because “APPLELY” sounds and looks similar to “APPLE.” 4. Avoid generic words. Avoid generic words which consist of words used to name products or services. For instance, the term “TABLE” is the name of a product. Thus, no one can own a trademark for the term “TABLE” for use with tables. We advise clients to avoid generic words. After selecting a mark, you should investigate whether that mark is available for use. Mark investigation is called trademark availability searching. After clients select marks, they ask us to conduct trademark availability searches to determine whether their marks are available for use in the marketplace. We also evaluate whether the Trademark Office will grant registrations to the selected marks.

In his capacity as a prosecutor, Jonathan tried numerous cases and managed the investigations and prosecutions of a wide variety of white-collar criminal, cybercrime, and counterfeiting matters.

Finally, fanciful marks are made-up words that do not exist in any language. For example, “XIPTO” is a made-up word, which is used in conjunction with services relating to securing airtime for the purpose of promoting others. If you are having trouble selecting a mark, you may wish to use a made-up word. One way to come up with a made-up word is to combine parts of other words. For instance, the famous mark, MICROSOFT, is a combination of “Micro Computer” and “Software.”

NEXTonSCENE Seaside Women's Network The Seaside Women’s Network was founded in the Summer of 2016 when businesswoman Diana Aliberti saw a void in opportunities for professional women in her area. She approached Networking Professional, Dawn Sullivan and asked to Co Found a women's group in Winthrop, MA. From there, the Seaside Women’s Network was BORN. Diana has over 19 years of experience with one networking company. She had been meeting people all over the state where she has gained perspective, clients and analytics.

Diana & Dawn are passionate about not only offering creative networking opportunities to their members, but also teaching members how to network outside of the group. Dawn, with a little over 2 years of networking experience, saw the value of meeting with other professional women on a regular basis for collaboration, inspiration, support and education, That is how Seaside Women's Network began. “When the Seaside Women’s Network first started, we had a handful of women, a Facebook page and were meeting in each other’s living rooms.” Dawn Sullivan Less than a year later they have a website, member directory and are booking speakers to educate the members on marketing, social media, organization, and professional headshots!

How did you fall into the world of hair?

"What I LOVE is that I get to make women feel good about themselves. NOT by trying to make them look like what's trending but just ENHANCING what they already have." Michelle

What is one of your favorite hair products and where can one get it? "Oh it's so hard to pick one!!!! A product I can't function with out is a good hairspray. My go to is Chi's Magnified Volume finishing hair spray. It's crucial in making sure the style lasts. It doesn't leave the client feeling like they have helmet hair. It has a firm hold but is workable so it doesn't leave the hair stiff."

"When I was 20, I dropped out of Suffolk University after my freshmen year. I moved to San Diego with a friend to find myself. Along the way, I met an amazing woman, Tomar Ramirez. Tomar became a close friend and at the time she had just finished hair school. She was so passionate about what she was doing. I was inspired and all I knew was I wanted to go to hair school after hearing her experiences. One day, I decided I was going to trade in my $800 a month paycheck. I was done working dead end jobs and going on pointless casting calls. Eventually, I found myself back home in Boston. I enrolled in Blaine in downtown Boston AND ironically it was right back on Suffolk's campus. I always knew I wanted to be in the Beauty industry I was just on the wrong end of it." If I wanted to do a consult with you how does that work?

"If you are coming to me for any service, I carry the products I use on my clients."

"I usually include a brief consultation before I start any service on new client and/or returning client. If a client wants a more in depth consultation I recommend emailing or calling to request a consultation before booking an appointment for your desired service."

NEXTonSCENE Fall Makeup Tips and Tricks With Looks By Liz As Pumpkin Spice is being reintroduced at our favorite coffee shops, we know one thing... FALL IS HERE! As the leaves change, so should our makeup! Autumn colors are taking charge this fall. Burnt oranges, crimson reds, and bright yellows are dominating the eyeshadow game! Summer's smokyeyes and neutral lips are fading to bright berry lip colors and the ohso-fashionable cut-creases. Not familiar with a cut-crease? Cut-crease is a craft of defining the eyelid crease by following the crease line with a contrasting color. This will draw emphasis to the natural beauty of a woman’s eyes.

#GET SOCIAL IG:@Looksbylizzzz FB: @looksbylizzzz

Do it yourself with these THREE easy steps! FIRST: Apply darkest color to outline the entire crease SECOND: Apply lighter shade to the entire lid LASTLY: Take out your glow palette (a selection of shimmery shades that illuminate the face and eyes) and dab desired shade on the inner corner of your eyes What does fall mean for all of our autumn brides? Along with the cool crisp air, the humidity drops. Moisturizer is definitely a girl's best friend this time of year, especially if she wants to keep her glowing skin simple and smooth. Try using mineral-based makeup to avoid breakouts. An autumn bride will want to consider a bold lip color to contrast against an ivory or white gown. All eyes will be on hers ESPECIALLY with skillfully applied cut-creases, and highlights of her bottom eyelids with a touch of metallic eyeliner.

NEXTonSCENE We had the fabulous pleasure of interviewing Owner, Jimmie Espo! What inspired you to start your own business and what was the first party you worked on? "I grew up in East Boston listening to Oldies in the back of my Dad’s old Ford. We would sing along together until I fell asleep! My Dad still has an old Jukebox full of 45’s in his basement!! I started DJing at 15 years old when my childhood best friend was going to have a 16th birthday. I used my Dad’s old stereo, 2 tape-decks and a turntable! The party was awesome and I was officially hooked!" How many weddings do you do a year? "I personally DJ between 80 and 90 Weddings every year, plus about 20-25 Corporate and Charity events. Being such a large part of someone’s Wedding day is such an amazing feeling. Watching them celebrate, sing and dance the night away always brings a smile to my face! It’s a very rewarding industry that I am proud to be a part of." What inspired you to become an entrepreneur? "I have always loved the business side of what we do! While DJing and entertaining crowds are where my passion is, I quickly found that I had a knack for marketing, sales and management." "Being able to create my business, learn from my mistakes and watch it flourish is absolutely amazing! I have many blessings as far as business goes, but the best one of all is my amazing team! We have grown from a team of 1 (me) in 2009 to a Team of 24 servicing 800 Weddings per year!"

"One of my favorite parts of being an entrepreneur is helping to foster and grow new talent. Whether it be on the artistic side or on the business side

– nothing makes me happier than to see new talent bloom!

I ve always hired experienced talent on the DJ of our business, season professionals that I could help mold into the best Wedding Entertainers possible. Over the past few years I have had the opportunity to work with, train and develop our newest DD talent. His name is Christian B and I could not be more proud of him!" Jimmie

What makes 617 weddings unique as a entertainment business? Do you only do weddings in MA? "As a whole, we are one of the first Wedding Services Companies in New England to incorporate all key Vendors (DJ – Photo – Video) while not being an agency. All of our artists at 617 Weddings and 617 Events work exclusively for 617 only to ensure the utmost service and quality work!" "On the entertainment side, we really set ourselves apart by being “real DJs” This means having actual live mixing, turntable DJs who are also professional Wedding emcees. It’s a nice change from the cheesy and typical Wedding DJs who just “press play” on their laptops and resort to games and line dances to keep the party going. This approach also works really for our Corporate market, giving guests a very unique vibe to their party." How can we get in touch with you? "Email for me is always best at espo@617weddings.com. I am personally in the office during the week so feel free to give me a call and say hello at 617-981-6540..

"OMG. The food was AMAZING! Did you notice how much food was left from the cocktail hour? Too bad we couldn’t donate it…" Well with Feeding our Neighbors YOU CAN. Any wholesome, leftover food that has not been served, can be donated to a food rescue or even to your elderly neighbor. If you’re planning a wedding (or know someone who is); or are having a big catered event of any kind, you can ask that leftover food be packaged up and sent to neighbors in need. Five years ago, a small but determined group of catering and events industry professionals started a conversation about food donation from events. They had all heard that it couldn’t be done as a result of liability concerns, but as they researched the law, and met with lawyers from Harvard’s Food and Policy clinic, they quickly learned that in 1996, the federal government passed a law (The Bill Emerson Act) protecting all would-be food donors from any and all, civil and criminal liability, when donating to a food rescue operation. In 2017 the law was updated to include protections for those wanting to donate to the local family, New England Feeding Our Neighbors .org was born.

Chef David Blessing prepares leftover food at Longwood Events The State Room

Over the past five years, this ever-expanding group of event professionals committed to changing the public perception and practice regarding event food donation. And slowly, but surely it’s been making a difference. This year, photographer and Feeding Our Neighbors co-founder Dana Siles became Greater Boston Area Coordinator for Rescuing Leftover Cuisine, a volunteerbased food rescue closing the gap between leftover fresh and prepared food and our neighbors in need. Visit www.RescuingLeftoverCuisine.org/MA to learn more and to sign up as a Food Rescue Volunteer, if you are a business to donate food or if you are a non profit to receive food.

Catering to Brides and Grooms with Owner of Slavin in The Kitchen, Deirdre Slavin-Mitchell by Wedding Planner, Kelsey Mitchell What is the first thing you suggest brides and grooms ask any prospective caterer? "Understand what you are paying for. A lot of brides ask how much the meal costs. But for off- site catering food cost is only one part of the bill. Staffing and Rentals generally make up the other two thirds of the bill." You stay on top of food trends, what are some of the more popular wedding trends of this year? What about in the upcoming year? "Food stations are still really hot. We have been able to get really creative with them. Brides have opted to have food from around the world with our Spanish Tapas Station, Imperial Wok Station or our Risotto Station. They can feature comfort food with our Mashed Potato Bar or Mac and Cheese Bar. Chef active stations are fun at weddings because they give the guests a little show with their food. Another trend is providing a late night meal for the guests at the end of the evening. We’ve created an entire line of breakfast inspired Hors D’oeuvres to address this new trend. Personally, I love our Biscuit Bar with assorted Biscuits and Homemade Jams, Butter, Bacon Jam and Sausage Gravy. Guests can assemble their own Biscuit and then hop on the bus back to the Hotel. I’ve also seen a trend moving away from the traditional wedding cake for dessert. This year we offered a pie bar at one of our country rustic weddings and we’ve also offered a Viennese Dessert table with a buffet of one bite desserts at another wedding. It’s really fun to see how brides and grooms are able to make their wedding unique." When meeting with a bride or groom initially, what are some frequently asked questions? "Brides often ask if we have "packages” which we do not. As an offsite caterer we are more able to offer a variety of menus than some facility that has a set caterer with set menus. We like it this way because we can completely customize a menu for our Brides and Grooms. For instance we did an entire menu of “Foods of New England” for a Bride and Groom that had a lot of out of town guests. It was a huge hit."

What is the process for customizing a menu? "Ideally we like to sit down with our Brides and Grooms and discuss what their vision is for their entire wedding. Where is it being held? What is the overall feel or theme that they are trying to achieve? They can take a look at our seasonal menus and see what they like or I can design a specific menu for them. I try to take certain things into account when designing a menu. One important factor is asking who are the guests at the wedding. For instance, I had a young Bride and Groom who loved sushi and wanted a big sushi station for their wedding which is rather a pricey option. I learned that a majority of the guests were family on the elderly side and from a rural setting. I suggested passing some sushi rather than the sushi station. This turned out to be a much better option for them as many of their guests were not interested in eating sushi. A successful party always takes into account the needs and tastes of the guests." With over 20 years in the business, Slavin in The Kitchen wants to make the day ABOUT YOU! With Deirdre, everything is custom to the event!

Doing this allows you both the comfort of knowing that your relationship is an open book AND that there’s nothing to hide from one another. TWO. Date Night: This strengthens and rekindles that romantic spark. It is also helpful in maintaining that attraction that you both had for one another from the start of your relationship. THREE. Take Pictures: The only pictures you'll ever regret are the ones you never took! Take all the pictures you can, and set aside time to re-live those simple memories.
