GASSAN: THE BEST FAMILYBUSINESS OF HOLLAND Gassan is dit jaar door de Stichting Familie Onderneming, in samenwerking met KPMG, uitgeroepen tot Beste Familiebedrijf van Nederland.

Tijdens de Big Improvement Day is de prijs dit jaar voor het eerst uitgereikt. Deze prijs is een initiatief van John Fentener van Vlissingen, topman van familiebedrijf BCD Travel. Fentener van Vlissingen heeft deze prijs in het leven geroepen, omdat familiebedrijven de motor zijn van de Nederlandse economie en zorgen voor groei en werkgelegenheid. Bovendien zijn familiebedrijven vaak minder zichtbaar, waardoor zij minder vaak erkenning krijgen. Gassan Diamonds, van oudsher een familiebedrijf, is gevestigd in de oude stoom diamantslijperij in het historische centrum van Amsterdam. Het bedrijf houdt zich bezig met het slijpen van diamant, de groothandel en de detailhandel van losse en gezette diamanten, diamanten- en gouden juwelen en horloges. Gassan Diamonds neemt een vooruitstrevende positie binnen de diamantwereld, mede door het introduceren van de gepatenteerde slijpvorm, de Gassan 121. De diamantslijperij in de hoofdstad verwelkomde op 31 december 2012 haar 377.596 bezoeker en dat is een record. De bezoekers


krijgen een gratis rondleiding door de fabriek waarbij een uitleg wordt gegeven over de kwaliteitsbepaling van diamant, waarna losse geslepen diamanten en juwelen worden getoond.

Every day demonstrators will show you how etchings were printed in the 17th century. The demonstrations are free of charge and take place in Rembrandt’s former graphic workshop. And in the master’s reconstructed studio, demonstrators will show you how paint was made in Rembrandt’s time. Foam presents The Enclave by Richard Mosse, a major new multi-media installation which represented Ireland at the 55th International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia. The installation consists of six large screens which represent the conflict situation in Congo, shot with infrared film that was designed for camouflage detection resulting in vibrant, psychedelic magenta coloured sites of the jungle war zone.
