Dr. Hannah Hershoff
Feel Healthier and Happier with Spiritual Healing Jewelry Article by Cassie Remillard
What started as a one time gift in 2014 quickly turned into a full time job and passion for Dr. Hannah Hershoff of Sara Yo Spiritual Healing Jewelry. Hannah grew up in the southeast region China, her father managed a mine where the Kaolin mineral was harvested. Years later she had a piece of the Kaolin, or “China clay,” in her possession and her sister-in-law commented on it’s beauty, Hannah gifted the stone to her in the form of a beautiful homemade bracelet. After a few weeks of wearing the bracelet, her sister-in-law called her to say she felt an overwhelming sense of calmness and peace while wearing the bracelet. Hannah knew she was onto something. After testing more of her bracelets on women of varying ages and backgrounds she saw the same results! That’s when she decided to leave her steady career as an eye surgeon and enter the entrepreneurial world of jewelry making. Dr. Hannah practiced as an ophthalmologist in China, holding M.D and Ph.D. degrees in Medical Science, plus 25 years of medical practice and research in large hospitals, Harvard Medical School, and a major pharmaceutical company. She believes her steady surgeon’s hands allow her to create such intricate pieces of jewelry. All Sara Yo pieces are hand crafted by Hannah and her team right here in Rhode Island. Aside from being beautifully crafted, Sara Yo Jewelry contains five healing elements, gifting its wearers with a sense of harmony and balance just days after they start to wear it.
“Sara Yo has been a life changer for me! Their products are so healing in many different ways. Also love the fact I can wear them with any outfit! This is a must have in everyone’s life.” — Melody The five elements are Fire, Water, Wood, Earth, and Metal, which are understood to be the five aggregates that comprise the world. According to ancient Chinese medicine, these elements heal people with physical and emotional illnesses. Looking for a guide through your spiritual healing journey? Your experience with Hannah doesn’t stop after the purchase of Sara Yo Jewelry, with every piece purchased, Hannah will provide information and tools to guide it’s wearers to achieve the best healing results. Hannah credits herself with having a “good eye” when it comes to design for her pieces — I couldn’t agree more! Despite having no formal design training, Hannah puts together jewelry that bring the five elements from Earth together into gorgeous, harmonious, pieces of wearable art. Hannah is working hard releasing new designs almost every month. With so many unique designs available, there is bound to be a perfect piece for everyone’s collection! Sara Yo Spiritual Healing Jewelry is available in 15 stores across New England, visit www.myspiritjewel.com to find the store closest to you! BUY LOCAL, SHOP LOCAL

Anthony has recently taken on New England themed art, such as anchors, fish, and horse shoe crabs which have been a huge hit. Tavis makes sure to keep his art affordable, and creates different price points, making something for everybody. Article by Sarah Day
Anthony Tavis was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island. Growing up, he rambled around the country, experiencing many cities, cultural curiosities and beautiful landscapes. He finally found his home in 2006, when he moved to Alabama and married the love of his life. The scenery, wildlife, and folk music around him, soon sparked an interest to create art. A special type of art that you don’t see often. Tavis began creating paintings and assemblages out of discarded items, salvaged wood, cabinet doors and whatever else he could get his hands on. His art is influenced heavily by folk music, Non-Western art, and the American culture. It consists mainly of wildlife, places he has traveled to, angels, demons, visitors from outer space and legends that never die. Once a passion, became his life long career. Anthony wakes up every day and loves what he does. He is now going on almost nine years of creating this intricate, vibrant art and has thrived mostly at festivals, art shows and his online Etsy shop. He has met so many incredible people from all over the world, and takes every opportunity he can to sell his pieces. Being an artist, it is all about getting in front of people and meeting new faces!
After recently moving back to Rhode Island about a year ago, life has been a lot different compared to the south. Although it may have been a challenging adjustment, Tavis says that it has been a great opportunity for him and his business. Rhode Island offers a variety of different art festivals all over the state, which has helped him get his name out there tremendously. Providence’s famous WateFire, especially, has opened up a new window for him! Although the sales and interactions are very different in Rhode Island compared to what Tavis was used to, he has been so appreciative of the people he has met along his journey back to the little Ocean State. Anthony has recently taken on New England themed art, such as anchors, fish, and horse shoe crabs which have been a huge hit. Tavis makes sure to keep his art affordable, and creates different price points, making something for everybody. To learn a little more about Anthony Tavis, visit his website at http://www.anthonytavis.com/ or scroll through his Etsy shop https://www.etsy.com/shop/ AnthonyTavisFolkArt to take a look at his beautiful artwork. 5 Ingredient Christmas Bark

Bookkeeping | Payroll Service Business Consulting
3/4 cup Holiday M&M’s
1 tbsp Christmas Sprinkles
1/2 bag Wilton Candy Melts White
Prep Time: 10 minutes
1/2 bag Wilton Candy Melts Green
Cook Time: 30 minutes
1/3 bag Wilton Candy Melts Red
Total Time: 40 minutes Servings: 6
Cooking Instructions: 1) Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. 2) Place bag of wilton candy melts in a microwave safe dish (I used a Pyrex measuring cup) and heat on 50% power for 1.5 mins, stir, then microwave at 50% power for 1 min or until fully melted and smooth upon stirring. 3) Pour melted chocolate onto cookie sheet and spread out with an offset spatula until evenly distributed. (Note: your bark can be as thick or thin as you would like just depends on how thin you spread the chocolate). 4) Swirl with a knife until all colours are mixed through. The knife allows for swirling of colours but not mixing of the colours so each colour stays it’s original shade. 5) Sprinkle with M&Ms. 6) Sprinkle with Christmas sprinkles. 7) Place in fridge to set (approximately 30 minutes) 8) Once hardened break into bite sized pieces.

by Dr. Ronald G. Shapiro Kelly Anne White (mother) and Abigail Leigh White (daughter) have always been the best of friends, doing everything together. They love customer service and enjoy making memories rather than gathering things. Kelly was thinking about a second career and Abigail a first when they decided to go into business together helping people make memories through travel. Since neither Kelly nor Abigail have formal business training, they decided on a Cruise Planners franchise and have been delighted with their decision. While Kelly and Abigail are pleased to arrange any of the Cruise Planners package vacations, they do so much more. They would love to arrange your family reunion (perhaps, here in Rhode Island) and offer recommendations so that everyone has a good time. Kelly and Abigail’s experience comes from planning big family reunion vacations (which frequently include family pets). An ideal vacation includes Kelly, Abigail, Kelly’s spouse David and Abigail’s boyfriend David, Abigail’s sister, Emily, from New Hampshire (who also serves as the business’s attorney), their dogs Copper (a shih tzu) and Toby (a rescue), and as many family members as they can gather together. Work with them to determine who is going, when and where you want to go and how much you want them to do for you (including arranging delivery of dinner, if you want them to). They will do the rest.
A Mother & Daughter
Travel Agency
Our mother – daughter team offers the following tips for great vacations:
• • • • •
When you visit a new place, immerse yourself in the culture, keep an open mind, and appreciate the differences. Make sure you take the time to reconnect with yourself and the loved ones traveling with you Always purchase travel insurance. Peace of mind is key! Talk to the locals and hotel staff (gardeners, servers, maids), performers, and whomever else you may meet. Tell management about local employees who made your travel memorable.
Kelly and Abigail would be delighted to offer you some tips on travel, help you plan your next event or vacation, talk about their experiences as small business owners in Rhode Island and send you a copy of their latest fact sheet titled Why Use a Travel Agent. Keeping Your Childrens Teeth
Healthy for the Holidays Chances are very high that your children have cookies, desserts and all types of sweets dancing around their heads this holiday season. While you will do what you can to limit their sugar intake, they will probably be eating their fair share of it at your family holiday parties as well as the treats that are left in their stocking! See what treats made Pediatric Dental Care’s naughty and nice list...
Caramel Gummies Raisins Sour Candy Lollipops Bubble Gum
Dark Chocolate Lilly’s Chocolate Chips with Stevia Russell Stover Sugar Free Stevia Chocolates Candies & Lollipops made with xylitol Sugarless Gum
There are many different treats that can be replaced for the candy that eats away at your child’s teeth and takes a toll on their oral health later in life. Be sure to substitute any of the sticky, chewy candies with anything made from Stevia or Xylitol. Believe it or not, these naturally sweetened candies have been tested to fight cavities. Who would have ever thought? Remember...be sure to remind your children to sip on water throughout the day to rinse off as much sugar as possible. If
they can’t brush their teeth, sugar-free gum can help cleanse teeth and neutralize the acids released by the bacteria in plaque. Look for chewing gum with the ADA Seal because you can be sure it’s sugarless. Studies show chewing sugarless gum after meals for a few minutes or until the flavor wears off can help prevent cavities and remove lingering food. Just don’t substitute brushing and flossing with gum chewing. Your child still needs to brush twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste and floss once a day to remove plaque between teeth.
After the holidays, be sure to schedule a visit for a 6 month cleaning so your child is ready to begin a new year with a healthy smile! Give them a call at 401-825-6062 or visit their website for more information. BUY LOCAL, SHOP LOCAL

E l e v a te Yo u r S t y l e This Holiday Season The holiday season is finally here, which means one thing: a calendar full of festivities. Getting a look together for a holiday party can be a bit tricky and overwhelming, but one of Rhode Island’s best wardrobe stylists, Kayla Zarrella, has given tips on the major do’s and don’ts that will help tremendously. This festive season is all about standing out-now is your time to shine! 1. ’Tis the season to sparkle! There is no better time of the year when glitter and sequins are more appropriate than during the holidays. Incorporate a shimmering piece into your holiday look, whether it be a sequined skirt, a metallic blazer, or a shiny pair of high heeled shoes, you will be the most stylish one at the party. 2. Ditch the Denim. Avoid wearing your basic pair of skinny jeans. Instead of denim, try a pair of silk pants in a fun and festive color. Some other alternatives could be tapered black trousers, faux leather leggings or even a pair of edgy, velvet pants! 3. Dress to Impress. The holiday season is the perfect time of the year to dress up. Always go for the piece that you would catch yourself saying, “I need something to wear this to.” Whether it is a midi dress, a velvet jumpsuit, or a tulle skirt, you can never really go wrong. Pair it with statement pumps and your favorite fab jewelry and you will impress the entire party! Kayla Zarrella has a strong aptitude for trend direction as well as an encouraging ability to push one outside of their fashion comfort zone. Her keen eye and innate style has helped a wide variety of people throughout Rhode Island and New England to find the best version of themselves through an updated wardrobe. Looking for help styling your holiday outfit? Give Kayla a call today (401) 626-6835 and she can help guide you in the right direction! Gift certificates are now available for purchase for any and all of Kayla’s services. Nothing beats the everlasting gift of style. Liz Barrett has been resourceful and self-reliant throughout her career. So when it came time to share her vegan delights, she jumped in with both feet. Starting out with cashew-based products designed to substitute for parmesan and ricotta cheeses (and called “Farmesan” and “Fauxcotta”), she’s been a big hit on the farmers market circuit. Early success and education at the Hope & Main food incubator fueled her confidence and helped her to launch Barrett’s Garden, LLC. Targeting healthy retail food chains, Barrett’s items are now available at retail (including several Whole Foods locations in RI and MA) and wholesale outlets throughout New England and major health food distributors are asking for product. Due to this early success, Barrett needed to secure her own dedicated kitchen and add staff to keep up with demand. She worked with the RISBDC to secure a loan from Navigant Credit Union. These funds enabled her to buy equipment, invest in marketing and secure a stateof-the-art kitchen where she develops products that are “healthy, minimal, GMO-free, and without fillers”, according to the Barrett’s Garden website. Barrett, who also received RISBDC assistance for streamlining her QuickBooks accounting system, is well-positioned for growth. Barrett is a true asset to the state’s small business community. She has not only developed a dairy-free, gluten-
free kitchen and local job opportunities but also sources supplies and services from Rhode Island-based companies whenever possible. Her company has recently been presented with several exciting growth opportunities that could have a significant positive impact on the operation. Barrett says, “I would not be here without the help of the RISBDC. Dennis [McCarthy, Northern RI Center Director] has made my journey so much more successful than if I was alone. Thank you so much.” Learn more about Barrett’s Garden, LLC by visiting their website at BarrettsGardenFoods.com. Beavertail Lighthouse Beavertail Road, Jamestown, Rhode Island Beavertail Lighthouse is one of the most visited landmarks in Rhode Island, for both its history and its incredible panoramic views of Narragansett Bay. It is located on the southernmost tip of Jamestown, Rhode Island and is the site of the third-oldest lighthouse in the United States. The original Beavertail Lighthouse was built back in 1749 with a purpose for settlers to have a light that could help guide ships from the open ocean into either Newport Harbor or Narragansett Bay. The wooden structure caught on fire 4 years later and burned to the ground. British sailors retreating from Newport towards the end of the American Revolutionary War left a trail of destruction
behind them in 1779. This included burning the lighthouse and removing the optics, which left darkness for the rest of the war. In 1856, the tower was replaced with what is now the current tower, made of granite which is 10 ft square, and 64 feet from ground to beacon. A 3rd order Fresnel lens was placed and over the next forty years it was the site of numerous fog-signal tests, under the supervision of the United State Lighthouse board. In 1898, living space was added to the lighthouse for an assistant keeper; who helped with fog-signaling. Years later, the whistle house was destroyed during the 1938 hurricane. The US Coast Gaurd then took control of all lighthouses and navigational aids. The building was restored and opened to the public in 1989, following a joint effort by the US Coast Guard, Rhode Island Parks Management, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, and the town of Jamestown. in 1993, Beavertail Museum was established and is now open to the public. The Beavertail Lighthouse Museum stands as the main tourist attraction within the Park with an impressive collection of information and artifacts about the history and site of the third-oldest lighthouse in North America through exhibits, a small theater and interactive displays (there’s a gift shop, too!). You can also take in the incredible views and walk through the beautiful trails throughout the entire year. There will be a special holiday event taking place at the museum on Sunday, December 8th from 1-4 PM!

HELPING OTHERS DURING THE HOLIDAYS When Ilanna Ball decided to help others during the holidays, she decided to devote her time to individuals and families in need, to specifically choose to aid those without a home and those without enough food to eat. These factors can make for tough times, especially when children are involved. Ball, who owns Total Asset Solutions and Finest Real Estate and Property Management in North Smithfield, will be hosting the Third annual Christmas Eve Dinner for the Homeless to assist homeless and “working poor” families because Ball said she also wants them to enjoy the holiday season. This free event happens on Tuesday, December 24, at The Millrace Kitchen, 40 S. Main St., Woonsocket, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Attendees will receive a hot meal, presents and family photos with Santa as well as other exciting activities. “Hunger and homelessness don’t take holidays off,” she said. “I was raised to help others and this is my passion and cause—helping those in need. My husband (Charles Coulbourn) and I also deliver hot meals to people who need it most, whether they are living in their cars, a shelter or somewhere else. I feel fortunate to be in the position that I am in, and want to pay it forward.” Adeline’s, A Speakeasy Kitchen Bar, located on 2352 Mendon Road in Cumberland, will provide 200 meals for the event. Owner Philip Giguere said the holidays are a good time to give to those who are less fortunate. Like Ball, Giguere also works with the homeless and provides meals to an area family whose son has physical challenges. Ball stressed that the Christmas Eve Dinner is not limited to just the homeless. She said many families routinely make tough choices like paying the rent or buying food. These are luxuries some people take for granted. Ball said several people attended the event last year who would have otherwise spent the holidays alone. “Not everyone is fortunate to live near friends and family. Nobody should be left out or be alone for the holidays,” Ball said. Ball said the outpouring of support from the community over the last two years has helped to make this event successful. She added her goal this year of reaching more people. Ball said she is also focusing extra resources in order to ensure that there are gifts appropriate for teenagers—sadly that age group often gets overlooked. The Christmas Eve Dinner is open to anyone interested in attending. Donations are needed to help make this event successful. Donations of gift cards to fastfood restaurants and gas stations are most needed. Other needs include toys for young children and gifts for teens. All items must be new and unused. Please contact Ilanna Ball at 401-419-7116 or by email at wecanfixitall4u@gmail.com for more details.

Three Dogs Barbecue Sauces Out of Saunderstown, RI comes a due of habanero barbecue sauces inspired by three rescued beagles…those of owners Lisa Natanson and Scott Drabinowicz. The sauces are called Puppum’s Three Dog Barbecue Sauces, and they’re formulated to let the flavor shine through and not just the heat…The sauces, which come in Mild and Hot varieties, are thicker in consistency than your normal barbecue sauces, which make them all the better for dipping and spreading on sandwiches. At the Three Dogs Sauces website, you’ll find a list of area stores where the sauces are available, and you can also order online. We especially like the jars they’re packaged in – wider mouth to help you enjoy every bit!As an added plus, proceeds are donated from every jar sold to local animal rescue groups.
