Raising Voices Against Tyranny (Sep)+* (1,500)
Description Impact
"Talinhaga Laban sa Tirano: Raising Voices Against Tyranny", held on Sept. 18th (US, 6pm Pacific / 8pm Central , 9pm Eastern) / Sep 19th (Philippines, 9am).
This online event is a collaboration between arts collectives in the US and Philippines that are remembering the resistance against the Marcos dictatorship and continuing to raise voices against the killings, attacks, and the return of tyranny today. These artists commit to never forget the dark past while fighting back against today’s descent into dictatorial rule, with brutal attacks on human and civil rights, moving of public funds towards military solutions to the Covid-19 pandemic, and neglect of the people’s welfare.

community together to help heal and reconnect. Panther in the Sky is a play written by Lani T. Montreal about four mothers who are dealing with the murders of their teenage sons on the streets of Chicago. The sons meet each other in the afterlife and grapple with the reality of their abrupt demise. They talk and banter as teenage boys do, as their mothers cope with grief, and struggle to make sense of it all.

AAPI CELEBRATION at The Chicago History Museum 2022
WE celebrated Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month at the Chicago History Museum today. Thanks to CIRCA Pintig(Juan Tamad and the Tikling Birds and Alamat), Lane Tech High School’s Kapamilya Habang Buhay (Tinikling), When Ned Left (Pumapatak na Naman Ang Ulan, Manila and Bingo) Japanese American storyteller Anne Shiwojima who regaled the guests with folk stories. Aside from CIRCA Pintig and the Filipino American Historical Society of Chicago, the FilAm nurses of the Nightingales, Digital Tapestries Films (Roots Grow Together) and Sinag (Filipino American Artists of Greater Chicago) were there along with the Chinese American and Japanese American Service Leagues. Our thanks to the Chicago History Museum (shoutout to Erica Griffin, Greg Storms and Candace Bey) for hosting this event at the museum! Salamat to all the participants and families, what a wonderful way to celebrate
