Nanna Sally’s Sewing Service Bernina Open Day Nanna Sally’s Sewing Service and Bernina Sewing Machines are proving to be an unstoppable team, with their first shipment of Bernina Sewing Machines coming in at the start of August, then the team at Nanna Sally’s have been on quite the learning curve to ensure they are up to date with all the new technology on offer with these fantastic machines. “The Nanna Sally’s team had a great time with Cathy, the Bernina Rep, getting to know our new machines better. This was especially good as I have not had much to do with embroidery machines before, and boy am I amazed at what can be achieved with even a mid range Bernina machine.” Said Nanna Sally
We encourage everyone young and old to come and see our new range of Bernina Sewing Machines at our Open Day this month. Cathy our wonderful Victorian Rep will be there to assist with any enquiries and demonstrations. The Nanna Sally’s Bernina Open Day is a fantastic opportunity to come and try the machines and ask questions while enjoying a cuppa. Come and see the BSR in action! Gippsland’s unique history revealed STEP back in time to the 1850′s and enjoy a visit to Old Gippstown, a complete historical township filled with authentic buildings and décor. Old Gippstown is also renowned for its Coach house which contains one of Victoria’s best collections of horse drawn vehicles. The beautiful garden settings are perfect for picnics and barbeques. You can also see a large variety of agricultural and industrial machinery ranging from horse drawn, steamdriven or manually operated items, and the blacksmiths forge, in which much of this machinery was manufactured. The general store and dressmaking shop contain displays of original implements used around the home in the 1850s. FEATURED BUILDINGS: Farm Contractors Shed – Constructed in 1971 by Old Gippstown from materials to hand, this shed includes a variety of farm equipment, including the massive Clayton and Shuttleworth thresher from Hazelwood. Gippsland Motor Garage – This building was constructed on site in 1972 and was named after a garage established in 1929 in Maffra by W.O. Fulton, a blacksmith and a garage proprietor and state parliamentarian (Late Minister
for Health). It sold Chevrolet and Oldsmobile cars and Massey Harris farm machinery. Exhibits include a 1926 Packard Tourer/Stanley Steamer, a 1927 Biuck Hearse, a 1925 Chevrolet Tourer and a 1924 Hudson that was converted to a motor hearse in 1930, the first motor hearse in Traralgon. The petrol pumps include 1920s Plume Texaco, Shell, COR and a chariot-type Plume mobile petrol pump. Fire Station – The fire station was originally a tennis pavilion from Moe. The hose reel outside dates from 1900-1915. The 1938 Dodge fire engine, under the administration of the Country Fire Authority, was in use in the 1944 fire in the Yallourn open cut mine. It was last stationed at the Moe Fire Station and in use right up until it was decommissioned in 1971.
The quaint church. Photo courtesy of Theo Ven Der Muelen.
There is also the Tynong theatre, where screenings of old black and white movies, newsreels and shorts can be arranged for visitors, the local police station and the local doctor’s quarters. And don’t forget to look out for the resident ghost! Old Gippstown is also a great location for weddings and functions.
Show the kids how people lived in Gippsland in the 1850s.

Looking after your best mate WHEN trying to decide on the best pet for you there are a range of things to consider. These include safety, animal freedom, space, native animals and the suitability of your home. It’s also important to consider the needs of different pets and how well this will fit in with our own lifestyle. The PetNet website, www.petnet. com.au, has a special pet area which could help you choose the best breed of dog or cat to suit your home and family. Here a few tips to look after your furry mates: Do I need to take my pet to the vet when it’s not sick? Yes, visiting your vet once a year means that they can check your pet for early signs of disease, make sure their teeth, skin, eyes and ears are healthy, update life-saving vaccinations and keep an eye out for problems as your pet gets older. What about vaccinations? It’s extremely important that all puppies and kittens have a series of vaccinations to prevent life-threatening illnesses. It will save you the time, money and heartache that come with your pet getting sick from a preventable disease.
(triennially). Other diseases such as canine cough (or kennel cough) still need to be boosted at least every year. Talk to your vet to find out more. What should I feed my pet?
Our pets need a balanced diet to keep them fit and healthy, and the best diet for your pet will obviously depend on what kind of pet you have. However, there are some foods that humans can have that make our pets very sick. Things like chocolate, grapes, sultanas and cooked bones should never be fed to your pet. Source: Australian Veterinary Association www.ava.com.au/about_pets
Grooming Grooming your pet is not only about how clean they are, and not just about making them look great. Keeping your dog well groomed also contributes to better health! The first step in grooming is training your pets to sit through a session while they are young so when they’re older, they will behave at grooming time.
Pets
Maintaining your dogs coat is important for all hair lengths, but long-haired dogs require much more attention than short haired dogs. When purchasing a dog you should always keep this in mind. That isn’t to say that dogs with short hair do not require grooming.
BoomtownPets.com.au Aquariums
You can begin grooming puppies at a young age and is beneficial to all dog breeds as it removes dirt and dead skin. If you brush your dogs coat regularly. The natural oil in their hair will spread throughout giving a nice shine to their coat.

Come in and see our range of alchohol free cologne that’s great for keeping your dog smelling fresh. Be sure to check out our massive range of pets supplies.
Another benefit of regular grooming is finding fleas, ticks and other skin abnormalities before they become a serious problem. As you are grooming, it is good to check your pets ears, teeth, eyes and nails for infections or inflammations. If these are found early there will be less implications later on. As you can see, grooming keeps your pets healthy and happy. So don’t delay! Start grooming today and have a chat to the experts.
The AVA has revised its vaccination policy to recommend less frequent vaccinations for adult cats and dogs for some vaccines.

When it comes to caring for the community its hard to go past Sally Wilson from Traralgon. Sally has been the driving force behind the Cancer Council Traralgon branch for many years now with no signs of slowing down. “Who said there was plenty of time in retirement? I have never been busier! Having realized how many people have been touched with cancer, the choice to join the Traralgon Cancer Council as fundraiser and publicity officer was made easy.” Said Ms Wilson “Having worked in food, reception, real estate and having a widespread group of friends to network with, we have had some amazing functions and this year we are hoping to raise $65,000.” “The group has been together for over 30 years, meeting regularly
and helping with sausage sizzles, raffles, garden parties, as well as the nationally organized Daffodil Day, Biggest morning tea, soup and sandwich luncheons and of course the High Tea.” “Our oldest member, Val Skinner celebrated her 90th birthday recently and still plays an active part as treasurer.” Said Ms Wilson “I work with a wonderful band of volunteers who have a dedicated focus for fundraising and a wonderful community in which we live, working and giving generously to make a difference for Sally Wilson at the Traralgon Cancer Council’s Annual High Tea in August everyone that is affected by cancer.” is mainly donated and join in with “Knits for the money received is Nuts” Donations of wool “Being a retiree enables given directly to Cancer or beanies can be made me to pursue my interests Research.” to Sally Wilson. Scandi by Design SCANDINAVIAN interiors are really big right now and have been growing in popularity since the arrival of the inimitable IKEA in 1975! Scandinavian design has so much to offer and is sure to inspire anyone who is need of some innovative decorating ideas that can be incorporated into any home design.
10 Design Tips
on achieving the Scandi Interior from urbancouture.com.au:
1
Start with a blank canvas: Think white walls even white floors. Bright white is the colour of choice in Scandinavia design then bring colours through the furniture and decor.
2
Geometry: You can introduce this through prints, fabrics, lighting, and currently something very on trend – vases.
3
Splash of Colour: Scandinavian design is known for being playful and fun. Colourful art, cushions, throws, vases, rugs and even decorative furniture pieces. The canvas might be white, but the colour is splashed everywhere.
4
Right: Graphic and typographic artwork.
5
Far right: White, white and more white it’s all about the light.
Graphic & Typography: There is a strong presence of graphic prints and black and white typographic artworks in Scandinavian interior design. Something Wooden: It is rare that you will find a Scandinavian home without the feature of wood used. Whether it be wooden beams across the ceiling or a divine wooden log stool, this creates a sense of warmth and organic texture in the home.
6
Layered Textures: Due to the cold climate, popular textures in Sweden are leather, fur and natural textiles (linen, cotton, hemp). This will not only bring visual warmth and a luxurious look to your space, but more importantly comfort! Mix it up and layer the natural textures. Think cowhide rug, large knitted cushions, sheepskins, and luscious throws.
Below left: wood features strongly in Scandinavian design.
Keep all light fixtures simple, modern and minimalistic.
8
Keep it Simple: In Nordic Design the key pieces
of furniture must have clean and simple lines and must also be a
neutral colour. As a result you will see a lot of grey lounges and natural wooden tables. Remember that simplicity is the key, so bring your colours and textures through in the use of accessories. www.urbancouture.com.au
7
Let the Light In: is an important inclusion in Nordic design. The main goal for designers is to bring and retain in the space as much natural light as possible. That’s the reason for the usual absence of any window treatments. So tear down those curtains and let the light in!
Left: Layered textures create feelings of luxury and warmth. Above: Textural elements and ethnic motifs add personality. Right: Splashes of colour and pattern bring the design to life.

Cinema Guide
Soul deep in Gippsland
Me and My Mates vs. The Zombie Apocalypse GIPPSLANDER’S new resident movie reviewer Kevin Bechaz, immersed himself in the latest Zombie genre offering at a local cinema recently and lived to tell the tale.
AS always, there is a great deal of live entertainment to be had. Yes, it’s still cold, but don’t let that stop you from going out and having a great time! Rug up and keep warm, or dance the night away. Recently, The Club Hotel in Sale decided to start putting on live music on Friday nights. The first band to do so, was The Soultanas. For four weeks straight, guests were entertained not only by the fantastic music, but also the humour of Brett Glover who threw in some crazy song lyrics. Who knew that “Do the seagull” was a line from Shake a Tail Feather?
Review The audience participation was in full swing at last night’s Morwell screening of ‘Me and My Mates vs. The Zombie Apocalypse’, a crowd-funded cinematic venture now screening in selected theatres across the country, thanks in no small way to the unique cinema on demand service, Tugg.
The Soultanas are somewhat unique to Gippsland, being touted as “the tightest 7 piece band in Gippsland with a line up from heaven”. This line up includes “the tightest horn section this side of the city”. The play a wide range of popular music, including Everybody Needs Somebody to Love, Billie Jean, Kiss, Uptown Funk, C’mon Eileen, Greased Lightning and Tusk. With songs such as these in their repertoire it is easy to understand the popularity of this band. Branching out from their usual haunt of Sale, Barrie Jessep & The Vibe have played twice at Wy Yung Pub. It was the perfect place for new lead guitarist, Ryan Lestrange, to make himself known. With their regular drummer on an overseas trip, old mate, Capa (from The Jimmy’s) sat comfortably in the drummers seat. Both nights, the band impressed the staff and visitors with their professionalism, friendly attitude and abilities to play and sing. It is clear that they have been rehearsing hard to make sure they are tight - and boy does this make for a fabulous time. Ryan is thoroughly enjoying playing with the band, but he hasn’t fully settled in just yet. When he does, look out, because boy oh boy, can he put on a show! Barrie and the boys have further gigs coming up across Gippsland so make sure you keep an eye out in the gig guide. Speaking of The Jimmy’s, they have been out and about too, sharing their special brand of entertainment with the folks of Sale. It was very clear early on, that the night was going to be one where anything can, and probably will, happen. Two songs into the first set, and a patron was on stage, singing with the band. Most definitely not something one would usually expect. The Jimmy’s just laughed and went with it! Lead singer James, insisted the crowd applaud whenever he did his (now signature move) ‘Elvis hands’. The crowd
15
loved this and reward him with raucous applause and cheers. Keep an eye out if you want to know when and were to be for a night of fun, laughs, and of course, rocking good music. The Bundalaguah Hall has fast developed a reputation as a venue committed to bringing the very best live music. They achieved this again recently with an event that showed the spirit and heart of the committee behind the hall, as well as those of several musicians from across Gippsland. Three years ago, Greg Dodd had the idea to hold an event with all proceeds going towards helping the homeless and the blues community quickly came on board. Dubbed, “Blues for Lost Souls”, the idea has rapidly grown since its inception and the committee behind the Bundy Hall wanted to be a part of it. Word soon spread and The 350s; Amnesia Blues Band; Power House Blues Band; Rod Miller Blues Band; Fiona Boyes; The Dirty Souls and Greg Dodd all played for free. In addition, a wide variety of individuals and businesses donated items to be auctioned on the day as well; the funds from the auctions, combined with ticket sales and other donations, $8,000 raised and donated to Anonymous X. Everyone present had a wonderful time, everywhere you turned there was a person with a smile on their face, knowing they were a small part of helping a growing problem.
There’s definitely no shortage of zombie movies these days as the undead are as popular as ever with film audiences, however very few of them are Australian. Thankfully director Declan Shrubb has cleverly merged the gore-rich genre with our undeniably colourful humour and culture, resulting in 90 minutes of pure hilarity. We follow three telecom tradesmen who have fortified themselves inside the local telephone exchange during the initial stages of a zombie apocalypse. Despite the horrendous carnage that is quickly escalating outside, the three mostly seem unphased. Right off the bat, it’s very clear what one can expect from this splatter-fest.
It follows a very generic and typical plot as far as zombie movies go, but it’s the characters that give this film life (no pun intended). The often obscene dialogue certainly pulls no punches and is the film’s overall driving force, which in a way has allowed the filmmakers to celebrate our often ridiculed bogan culture.
their logic for the most part is quite sound given the dire circumstances.
It’s harshness and the graphic nature of zombies themselves are a surprisingly perfect fit. There’s a natural emphasis on blood and gore, the effects of which are very impressive given the film’s modest budget. Fans will definitely not be left feeling cheated.
My experience seeing ‘Me and My Mates vs. The Zombie Apocalypse’ on the big screen is one I’m not likely to forget any-time soon. The impressive turn-out by locals was matched by their enthusiasm in support of independent cinema. Genre fans rejoice! There’s a lot of fun to be had with this one.
I must add that with the amount of absurdity that’s on display, there still remains an element of realism. While many of the conversations shared amongst the characters are frivolous,
The biggest name in this picture is undoubtedly comedian Jim Jefferies who never fails to entertain, but much of the credit for the film’s success must be given to YouTube celebrity Alex Williamson and Greg Fleet. Their on-screen banter is priceless.

Holiday Cinema Guide with Kevin Bechaz
School Holidays are almost upon us, which means two weeks of trying to keep the kids occupied. Movies are always the best bet in my book, so here’s a small list of titles I recommend checking out.
Blinky Bill the Movie (Out Sep 17th)
Pixels (Out Sep 10th)
It’s been many years since our favourite Koala was on the big screen, but now he’s back, updated for a whole new generation in glorious 3D animation. In this all new trek across the Australian outback, Blinky is in search for his explorer father who disappeared some time ago. An adventurer at heart he is undeterred by the dangers he faces as he makes a number of friends along the way.
Now this is unique. When aliens misinterpret our classic arcade games as declarations of war, the aliens attack earth in the form of iconic video game characters. To be honest the reviews haven’t been the best but I do think that younger viewers, gamers especially will have fun with this movie. I know I wouldn’t mind checking it out.
Starring: Toni Collette, Rufus Sewell, Ryan Kwanten and David Wenham.
Starring: Michelle Monaghan, Adam Sandler, Peter Dinklage
Rating: PG (Mild themes and crude humour, some scenes may scare very young children)
Rating: PG (Mild themes, violence, coarse language and sexual references)
Pan (Out Sep 24th)
The adventures of Peter Pan are a perfect fit for the big screen, the most popular rendition being Steven Spielberg’s ‘Hook’ from 1991. This latest adaptation serves as a prequel to the classic story with no expense spared judging by their spectacular trailers. It tells the story of an orphan boy who finds both fun and danger when spirited away to the magical Neverland where he will ultimately discover his destiny. Starring: Hugh Jackman, Levi Miller and Rooney Mara Rating: TBA

Garden
September in the Garden SEPTEMBER marks the start of spring, which means the chill is almost gone from the mornings, and the days are getting longer and warmer. Soon fruit trees will be bursting with blooms and before we know it, it will be summer.
September is a fantastic time to remove those pesky Citrus Gall Wasp eggs that are commonly found in citrus trees, so to make sure they don’t hatch and take over the world
its best to deal with the problem now. The easiest way to check if your citrus trees are affected is to look for distinctive woody galls that form around the larvae. (Pic at left)
If you happen to find evidence on your citrus trees the most effective method of removal is to prune off the affected sections. Make sure to prune well below the gall. Don’t compost the affected sections; instead just pop them in a plastic
bag, seal it and dispose of them in your normal bin, not green. Controlling citrus gall wasp can be difficult but damage can be minimised by: ● Avoiding high nitrogen fertilisers in spring, instead feed your trees late autumn or early winter. ● Remove all newly formed galls that don’t show signs of exit holes before the end of winter.

Garden Nancy’s Notes You could also try hanging yellow sticky traps inside infected trees from mid September to trap emerging adult wasps. Be sure to remove the traps from the trees in November, as the wasps will no longer be about. As the weather is still unpredictable it is still wise to wait until October before planting summer crops such as tomatoes, beans, pumpkins, etc.
The soil doesn’t really warm up until mid October but that doesn’t mean you may not have a warm, sheltered spot where you may be able to plant a tomato or two. At least you can start growing your own tomato seedlings in small pots or egg cartons ready to plant out. Summer crops planted in cold soil will not thrive and will be no
further ahead in November than those planted in mid October. Soil thermometers are an inexpensive investment and you will be able to check your soil temperature for the optimum 17°C for planting.
Howdy Folks! Just updating you all on the Indian Myna birds.
For more information about Citrus Trees and their associated pests you can contact our friendly staff at Grow Master Traralgon.
JOBS FOR THIS MONTH 1st Week
In warm, frost free areas you could sow early beans and plant out tomatoes. Cultivate any vacant areas and keep the weeds down
2nd Week
Above: Cucumber. Below: Carrots.
Sow a few seeds of pumpkin, zucchini, cucumber, etc. in small pots ready for planting out in October.
Dont forget we sell the traps! Happy Hunting! Cheers, Nancy
3rd Week
Sow carrots and parsnips
4th Week
Sow herbs
MORE NOTES Carrots and parsnips need soil that is wellprepared and fine to get good roots. They do not like fresh manure and will produce ‘forked’ roots if there is too much manure or it is fresh. The only thing wrong with forked roots is that they are more difficult to prepare for eating, otherwise ‘any carrot is better than no carrot’. If you only have shallow soil or are growing carrots in containers try baby ‘carrots’ or the small round varieties.
Another challenge with germinating carrots is to keep the seed moist as well as the new seedlings when they emerge. This can be helped by placing a damp piece of sacking, an old towel or even a board along the row. Check the row each day and remove the sacking or board when the seedlings emerge. Pay attention to watering of all new seedlings as a warm day or drying wind can dehydrate them easily.
CALL 1800 MY TREE
Potatoes can be planted right through up until early into the new year. Virus-free ‘seed’ potatoes are best but any potatoes that have started to sprout can be used. I have even had a good crop of ‘spuds’ from potato peelings that were buried in the garden.
Locally owned and operated
Ants love carrot seed and many failures with carrot seed ‘germination’ can be attributed to ants taking the seed. Mix pepper with the seed before you plant or sprinkle it along the row after you have sown the seed. This will deter them.

What is Digital Marketing?
DIGITAL marketing is an umbrella term for the targeted, measurable, and interactive marketing of products or services using digital technologies to reach and convert leads into customers.
The key objective is to promote brands, build preference and increase sales through various digital marketing techniques. It is embodied by an extensive selection of service, product and brand marketing tactics, which mainly use the Internet as a core promotional medium, in addition to mobile and traditional TV and radio. Digital marketing activities are search engine optimization (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM), content marketing, influencer marketing, content automation, campaign marketing, and e-commerce marketing, social media marketing, e-mail direct marketing, display advertising, e–books, optical disks and games, and any other form of digital media. It also extends to non-Internet channels that provide digital media, such as mobile phones (SMS and MMS), callback and onhold mobile ring tones.
and avenues for advertising and marketing. Fueled by the proliferation of devices to access digital media, this has led to the exponential growth of digital advertising. Latest Developments and Strategies As digital marketing is dependent on technology which is ever-evolving and fast-changing, the same features should be expected from digital marketing developments and strategies. This portion is an attempt to qualify or segregate the notable highlights existing and being used as of press time. 1. Segmentation: more focus has been placed on segmentation within digital marketing, in order to target specific markets in both business to business and business to consumer sectors.
History The term ‘digital marketing’ was first used in the 1990s. In the 2000s and the 2010s, digital marketing became more sophisticated as an effective way to create a relationship with the consumer that has depth and relevance.
2. Influencer Marketing: Important nodes are identified within related communities, known as influencers. This is becoming an important concept in digital targeting. It is possible to reach influencers via paid advertising, such as Facebook Advertising or Google Adwords campaigns, or through sophisticated sCRM (social customer relationship management) software, such as SAP C4C, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage CRM and Salesforce CRM. Many universities now focus, at Masters level, on engagement strategies for influencers.
The rapid evolution of digital media has created new opportunities
To summarize, Pull digital marketing is characterized by consumers actively
Business seeking marketing content while Push digital marketing occurs when marketers send messages without that content being actively sought by the recipients. 3. Online Behavioural Advertising: Online Behavioural Advertising refers to the practice of collecting information about a user’s online activity over time, “on a particular device and across different, unrelated websites, in order to deliver advertisements tailored to that user’s interests and preferences
The Next Generation in Digital Marketing Website and Graphic Design Specialists

4. Collaborative Environment: A collaborative environment can be set up between the organization, the technology service provider, and the digital agencies to optimize effort, resource sharing, reusability and communications.
Graphic Design
An important consideration today while deciding on strategy is that the digital tools have democratized the promotional landscape.
