Teulada ambulance station
CHARITY SHOPS have ended their dedicated funding of the Red Cross in a Costa Blanca town as community ambulances stand idle in a simmering row over the emergency service. The move follows the Teulada organisation’s decision to cut its round the clock ambulance cover for the town and surrounding districts and offer a service only over weekends. Weeks of talks between Teulada Town Hall and the Red Cross failed to find a solution and the stalemate has angered charity groups that over the years have contributed thousands of euros for vehicles and the state of the art equipment inside them. And many people in the town and in the surrounding area joined the Red Cross as social members to have the peace of mind that they would benefit

Weekday cover for Teulada residents is currently provided by a private ambulance stationed at the Levante Clinic and available through the local police – thanks to a deal brokered by the local authority - while people in outlying districts were advised to dial 112. INVITE
The Asociacion Benefica Amigos de Benitachell – ironically, more familiarly known as ‘the Red Cross Shop – is now inviting charities to apply for funding. And the charity’s president Patricia Kyle told RTN members had unanimously voted that funds should be used to back any registered local charity. Continued on page 3
