Youth Employment Plan “beneficial to the Region” by Keith Nicol VICTOR MANUEL Martinez, the Partido Popular’s regional deputy spokesman described the Youth Employment Plan as “very ambitious and beneficial to the region”, and that it “is based upon other developments that have worked in other regions and that are beneficial and innovative measures such as the promotion of self-employment.” Martinez explained that this plan has four main areas: one that will improve the professional skills of those young people who left school, a second consists of measures to facilitate their first work experience, a third to help locate employment opportunities; and another aimed at promoting self-employment and entrepreneurship. Martinez highlighted some measures that have been put in place to improve the skills of those who left their school studies and to help facilitate their return to the labour market, as “strengthening the active support program and initiate a training programme for young people with low qualifications; offer Professional Certificates, and grants offering them a second chance to obtain their the ESO, offering an endowment of 1,200€ and Modular Training “. Among the measures to provide the first work experience, he alluded to the “mixed programme of employment and training, which gives special im-

portance to the Training Workshops; Dual Vocational Training, and the training contract through which firms receive from 1,800€ up to 5,400€.” Also, Martinez referred to the third initiative, aimed at locating employment opportunities, which will be translated into measures like the Employment Bonus , worth 400€ a month for each contract; incentives for young graduates to work for the agricultural environment; bonuses of up to 7,000€ for permanent contracts, to employment in public infrastructure, and others aimed at incorporating the

food industry. He added that “entrepreneurship and self-employment, such as aid for young professionals of 7,000€ for men and 8,000 women, with special attention to vulnerable groups, and others to promote the social economy,” is also important. Victor Manuel Martinez concluded by saying he has made an “appeal to consensus and to work as soon as possible to get a plan that will be beneficial and will provide the tools for those in need” and “curbing youth unemployment is our greatest challenge.”
