The Auto de los Reyes in Aledo El Auto de Los Reyes Magos is a theatrical piece which narrates the journey of the three Kings, guided by the star of Jesus, to adore him and give the gift of gold, frankincense and myrrh. The general consensus is that 2013 will continue to present challenges for all those in business, and that during 2013 the Spanish Economy will remain in recession for at least the first three trading quarters of the year. Unemployment is expected to continue rising this year, with some analysts predicting that the 6 million mark will be passed when the active population surveys are undertaken later this year, ( NB there are 2 sets of unemployment stats, the active population survey and numbers physically registered as unemployed and seeking work in the employment offices) the major concern being that without the creation of new employment it will be difficult for Spain to begin a process of growth and reactivate its economy. The Minister for the Economy, Luis de Guindos, has said that he expects the crisis to abate in the third quarter of 2013, and believes that this is the point at which the recent policies implemented by the new government will bear fruit and start to generate economic growth. In an interview on the Cadena SER Radio station, De Guindos recognised the ‘harsh’ measures being taken by

the government of Mariano Rajoy to tackle the crisis, and assured listeners that ‘the foundations are being laid for an economic recovery that will come in the next few months’. The Minister said that “in the third quarter of the year we will have figures showing positive growth” and added that credibility “is the base of recovery”. De Guindos defended the labour reform initiatives undertaken by his government, in spite of the fact that unemployment had increased by more than 600.000 people by the close of 2012, saying that “the government had managed to reduce the impact of the economic deceleration from an employment point of view”. “If we had undertaken this labour reform two or three years ago, we could have saved a million jobs.” He said. December unemployment figures registered with unemployment offices closed at 4.848.723 people, an increase of 9.6% on December 2011.
