AROUND THE Murcia region, a lot of hopes are pinned on the new Costal act helping to save more than 6,000 jobs. And with the approval of the new Coastal Act, it could positively affect more than 2,100 direct jobs and over 4,000 indirect positions. The executive secretary of economy and innovation of the Partido Popular of the Region of Murcia, Jaime García-Legaz and the Deputy Secretary of Studies for the PP Programme of the Region of Murcia, Inmaculada González gave their assessment of the Strategy for Entrepreneurship and Youth Employment plus the Youth Employment Plan 2013-2014 and an assessment of the economic impact of the new Law of Costas on the Region of Murcia. García-Legaz noted that estimates by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment of Spain are that “The Region of Murcia will save 2,100 direct jobs and over 4,000 indirect through the implementation of the new Law of Costas” explaining that by retaining 12 hotels will preserve 900 direct jobs and 100 restaurants and bars accounting for 1,200 direct jobs’. On the other hand, he pointed out that “the implementation of the Act with affect more than 6,500 homes that will remain intact along the coast of Murcia, benefiting 26,200 people, of which for many of them, is their only home.” He concluded by explaining that the previous law had led to the closure of many hotels and catering establishments in Murcia and the destruction of hundreds of
jobs along the coast.” Inmaculada González noted that the new Entrepreneurship and Youth Employment Strategy 2013-2016 is providing modest results and pointed out that “to date, in Spain, over 62,000 young people have found jobs or have started a business through Strategy measures, but we must not be complacent and we must continue working to make sure that every, fewer young people are unemployed .” Regarding autonimo payments, which scupper many entrepreneurial sprits, she added “Thanks to the successful implementation of the flat rate of 50 Euros a month, the Ministry of Employment and Social Security has decided to extend this rate to all new self employed business people, regardless of age. The goal is for all new entrepreneurs, starting a business can enjoy a reduced price of 50 euros, instead of the 250 that is the norm!” Inmaculada González concluded that “there are many positive data results that we have, both nationally and regionally, such as increased exports, increased business creation or such as that for the fifth consecutive month, the unemployment rate in the region is decreasing, particularly for young people. According to the latest figures, unemployment has dropped by almost 3%,, or 419 young Murcians are now employed. The Partido popular are aware that we must not lower our guard and we must continue to work and develop the Youth Employment Plan of the Region of Murcia 2013-2014 for improving the economic situation of our region.”
