THE YEAR to date is also on the up, rising 17.3% over 2013, reaching 2,556 units. Nationally, registrations of passenger cars stood at 68,763 units in February, representing an increase of 17.8 percent over the same month last year, thanks to a strong increase in car sales associated with Plan PIVE 5. This improvement shows that a strong 122,199 units were registered nationwide during the first two months of 2014, up 13% percent more than the same period last year, according to records sent by business associations Anfac, Faconauto and Ganvam. Anfac communications director, David Barrientos said the “relentless rise has continued through all five PIVE Plans and is showing increases in all channels. The beginning of the year
has been the best since 2010.” Barrientos continued; “All the PIVE and PIMA Plans are having a direct effect on the Spanish market, which is becoming one of the most efficient markets across Europe.” Ganvam president, Juan Antonio Sanchez Torres, said; “the good sales figures show how aid schemes should be maintained until the economic curve is normalized through microeconomics. Only then can we turn that bag of two million potential buyers, who are currently on hold, pending a change in the credit situation allowing the money to start to flow.” For his part, President of Faconauto, Jaume Roura, alluded to “clear increase in showroom traffic” at dealerships in February. “We are also noticing more confidence among buyers, which is a turnaround from what happened a few months ago,” he added.
