The new mayor

THIS WEEK a major change has taken place for residents of the Camposol Urbanisation in Mazarrón, with the swearing in ceremony of a new pedanía Mayor. Although pedanía Mayors are normally appointed for a four year term, the previous Mayor had tendered her resignation and a new Mayor has been appointed mid-term for the Saladillo pedanía, of which Camposol is a large part. This represents a new wind of change for residents, as José Andrés Navarro Yepes is not only a native Spanish resident who lives on Camposol, but he also speaks excellent English and has already shown determination and dedication to work with his English neighbours to resolve some of the issues facing Camposol by being a long-term volunteer with the Camposol Residents Association. I am born and bred in Mazarrón and have known the Mayor for many years and now I can help the council to sort out their problems with the residents and hope to help the residents resolve some of their issues.” José emphasised the importance of the Camposol Urbanisation to the local Mazarrón economy, and explained that were it not for the residents of the urbanisation, around 5000 people at any one time due to the presence of not only permanent residents, but also their visitors and non-resident holidaymakers, that many of the businesses in Mazarrón would be empty. He emphasised the importance of the urbanisation population in breaking the seasonality of trade in Mazarrón, and the importance of maintaining good relationships between the town hall and residents.
