Tot refused medical treatment FRANTIC PARENTS were forced to dash around bank cash points to get money after a Costa Blanca Health Centre refused to see their sick baby unless they paid for treatment. by Jack Troughton LITTLE RUBIE French has a temporary SIP card and has been part of the Spanish Health System since she was born at Denia Hospital eight months ago. But her parents allege Calpe Health Centre would not accept the baby’s card without a passport in the early hours of Sunday 13th April – and the vital identification document was at the British Embassy in Madrid. The Calpe couple Jaycee Robinson and Clwyd French were told they must pay 150€ before Rubie could see a doctor – and claimed their own SIP cards, passports, and even the ‘Libro de Familia’ official family book were ignored by the receptionist. And after stumping up the money at 3am, Jaycee said the doctor put Rubie’s temperature down to fever – but the next morning she was diagnosed at the baby clinic at Casa del Mar as having a chest and viral condition. Rubie has now fully recovered and yesterday (Thursday) health chiefs promised the incident would be fully investigated. Jaycee told RTN: “She had been really groggy and I left her a little bit to see if she would get any better. I gave her some Dalsy to bring her temperature down but it went up to 41 degrees and so we took her to the health centre. Continued on page 5
