THE ASOCIACION Benefica de Teulada and its 26 years of service to the community were marked on Wednesday with a special ceremony at the town hall. The association, less formerly the Teulada Charity Shop, has raised and donated hundreds of thousands of Euros – and earlier millions of pesetas – in support of good causes. And the town hall threw a party to pay tribute to the charity’s team of volunteers for their hard work and a special ceremony was attended by British Vice Consul Elizabeth Bell, Teulada’s Mayor Carlos Linares and Councillor for Voluntary Services Laura Hillstead. The charity’s President Pat Bramah was pre-
sented with a certificate from the town hall by the mayor – and a surprise silver plaque by Afa Alzheimer. The association started supporting the centre last year when it marked quarter of a century of fund raising. The charity shop first opened its doors in 1989 as the Red Cross Shop – supporting the local ‘Cruz Roja’ and helped purchase ambulances and equipment, a car, and regular payments to the Red Cross Station on the N332. However, the collaboration ended in 2009.
