By Jack Troughton YOUNG JASMINE Wakeham made a cute little witch at a Halloween party on Wednesday night when the two-year-old randomly caught RTN’s roving cameraman’s eye. Someone obviously cast a spell at the Teulada Moraira Lions Club celebration, Jasmine was also featured in the paper last year when she was dressed as a bat.
People say they cannot leave doors and windows open because of the stench and allege the discharges have caused respiratory problems and sickness. An action group in the coastal town of El Campello is demanding for the landfill plant to be closed while proper tests and a full investigation are carried out at the site at Las Canyades. Scientists from Elche University took air samples and detected “the existence of volatile organic compounds” and concluded they were “potentially dangerous”. And company Socioenginyeria SL concluded “there is an unacceptable odour nuisance and a significant risk to the health of the residents affected.” The waste plant opened four years ago and now receives the rubbish from 52 municipalities, the waste arriving at the plant by road.
