Vanessa and Clive with Luke and Mark at the foot of the wall
THE STRESS of living under the threat of an “imminent” landslide engulfing their Costa Blanca home is taking its toll on Vanessa and Clive Geisler. The towering three metre high retaining wall supporting their neighbour’s pool, garden and barbeque area is in danger of collapse and has been declared unsafe in successive engineers’ reports. Vanessa has banned adopted sons Luke and Mark, both will be four this year, from playing near the structure as it continues to crack and move because she fears a tragedy. And ultimately, it is the Geislers’ garage and villa that has prevented a disaster as it supports the breeze block structure. However, the physical strain on their buildings is beginning to show. “I am at my wits end,” Vanessa told RTN this week. “I cannot sleep, sometimes I cry my eyes out and I feel so helpless. “I am sick with worry and have been in hospital – I suddenly collapsed one day, it is all to do with the stress.” Denia Council has now ordered the neighbour to rebuild and strengthen the structure – but the couple have no idea when the businessman will return to his holiday home on the slopes of the Montgo to receive the official notification, or if he will undertake work estimated at around 21,000€.
