LEFT PENNILESS by a Costa Blanca scam, a retired couple lost everything to the smooth patter of cunning saleswoman. Pensioners Janette and Ken Fillingham say they were cheated out of 81,000€ in a property deal that they believed would secure a dream Finnish wooden home on a La Xara development for the over fifties. Instead of a comfortable retirement on the Lentssons Resort, they are forced to rent accommodation in the UK – returning to England last year after becoming disillusioned with corruption in Spain and the machinations of resort owner Jane Lentz. Janette told RTN they were left virtually penniless. “I cannot tell you how much hate this bloody woman and what she did not only to us but to everyone else she conned and ruined their lives. I hope she rots in hell.” The couple moved to the Costa Blanca in 2005 after buying an apartment near Javea’s Arenal Beach but were unhappy with
the noise and the condition of the development. Taken to the Lentssons resort in 2007, they paid a 3,000€ deposit for a site on the planned second phase of the development. Janette said Irish-born Lentz then said a couple had pulled out of a first phase deal and as the wood was ordered they could pay the balance and move in. However, the house was never built. “That couple never got their money back either.” She said while at the site she met Frank and Mavis Goodhall – fellow victim featured in RTN in August – and Frank helped design a perfect floor plan for the home. “Jane told us that if we wanted we wanted it we had to pay all the rest of the money straight away as the wood for the house had already been ordered,” said Janette. “We took out a mortgage on the apartment we owned in Javea so we could give Jane the money and then put the apartment up for sale.” Continued on page 3
