World War I meets the Proms! THE HELP Murcia Mar Menor’s tribute function, ‘WW1 Meets the Proms, Bless them All’ at the Olympia restaurant was a roaring success! Read the full story on page 54.

REVENUE FROM Traffic Fines in Murcia has dropped year by year over the past three years. Drivers paid 458 million euros in 2011, 406 million in 2012 and 389 million in 2013. In total, revenue from traffic fines in the region of Murcia was reduced by over 3.6 million between 2011 and 2013, According to data provided by the Government to the socialist deputy Miguel Ángel Heredia as a parliamentary answer to a question about public records, the fund within the Community dropped from 15,259,104€ to 12,847,916€ in 2011 and then to 11,622,108€ from 2012 to 2013. The figures from January to June this year show revenue generated was 5,988,642€. In Spain, the decline of revenue between 2011 and 2013 was 68 million, with the first half of this year raising188.5 million. In total, Spanish drivers paid 458€ million in fines in 2011, 406€ million in 2012 and 389€ million in 2013.

Not surprisingly, due to their love of radar cameras, the autonomous region where more money is paid by drivers is Andalusia, where drivers have already stumped up a total of 40,395,250 euros in the first half of the year but sixteen less than two years earlier. In second place is Castilla and Leon, where 22.19 million in fines were taken in the first half of the year. In this region, contrary to the general trend, revenue from fines raised in the last three years rose from 45.4 million in 2011 to 48.5 last year. In Madrid, in just three years revenue dropped from 49.4 million euros to 40.1 million but if the trend of the first half of the year, when 21.6 million was taken continues, a turnaround would occur. Something similar could also happen in Castilla-La Mancha, where between 2011 and 2013, revenue from fines fell to 32.7 million from 50.3 million, however in the first six months of this year they have shown an upward trend with 16.56 million euros being taken.
