MURCIA’S DEPARTMENT of Tourism is off to London next week to promote the region at the World Travel Market. The fair is held from 4th to 7th November and is primarily aimed at the professional sector, dealing primarily with tour operators, airlines and marketing agencies. This is the second year that the Community is attending the event, this year promoting the region with a stand of 35 square meters, which mainly promotes the attractive ‘sun and beach’ flagship products of the region for the UK market. New this year is the introduction of a range of domestic tourism products, to promote rural accommodation and activities in nature areas, industrial tourism and specialty senior tourism. The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, said that they intend to “complement the offer of sun and beach with other products, as an absolute priority for tourist growth in the region.” Cruz, who presented Murcia participation in the London fair was

accompanied by the director of the Institute for Tourism, Enrique Ujaldón, noted that “the emphasis on domestic tourism will have two critical areas: rural accommodation and nature activities, including everything related to the wine, in particular the promotion of three certified wine routes.” The promotion of domestic tourism in the English market has been motivated through contacts with the Tourist Offices in London, where they analyzed that “British tourists are increasingly requesting differentiated products.” In this regard, the Minister of Tourism said that the Region “awakened interest in its wine routes.” For the first nine months of 2013, British tourism represented 51.5 percent of total foreign tourism in the region. The World Travel Market is considered the most important tourism fair in the world. In the last edition, 5,000 exhibitors from 184 countries and regions, met with 8,000 buyers. As for the number of visitors to the fair, it is expected to achieve similar results to the previous edition;115,000 visitors.
