This was against an increase of 6.6 percent experienced nationally. The rise means that Murcia is ranked as the second community with a greater increase in daily expenditure plus the average stay of tourists extended to 13 days allowing the region to rank in second place as the community were non-resident tourists stay longer. Foreign tourism generated 566 million euros, in the first ten months of 2013, a 2.1 percent rise above 2012. The Murcia region also experienced an increase in average spending per trip of 18.8 percent compared to 9.3 percent as the national average. However, the total spending by foreign tourists in the region rose to 60.4 million in October, which is 5.3 million more than in the same period last year. In the whole
of Spain, spending grew by 16.8 percent. The accumulated total from January to October, gave an estimate that the foreign tourists visiting the region of Murcia spent a total of 566 million euros, representing an increase of 2.1 percent over the same period 2012. This increase was driven by the boost in tourist arrivals, which grew by 6.1 percent since, however the annual average expenditure per trip and the average daily expenditure declined by 3.7 and 3.3 percent, respectively. Thus, during the whole period of their stay, tourists spent in the region around 983 euros, a figure higher than the national average expenditure that stands at 969 euros. In this regard, it should be noted that the average length of stay in the region was also longer than the national average: 13.1 days compared to 8.9 days as the national average.
