A judge ruled that the property was an illegal build, was directly affected by the Coastal Act and so was torn down on Tuesday after a court order was issued. Its owner, Ginés Carvajal López, was taken by surprise by the actions of the Administration saying; “I was not given any advance warning.” He and some of his neighbours have been in litigation over their properties with the State, for the last 19 years. According to López, Pedro Acosta, a Bolnuevo native, bought the land from the City Council in 1929. It totalled 150 meters of land to first build a workshop, which later became his home. In 1949, López’s grandfather bought the plot and buildings. By inheritance, Ginés and his brother Trini are now the owners. The house is deeded in the name of their building company, Carvajal Aborica SL According to Gines, in 1995, and not for the first time, the Costas changed the location of boundary lines, and the once legal house was designated to be in an area of shoreline domain, and so the brothers decided to sue the state. In 2003, the owners asked for permission to carry out work on the house, which was in need of major renovation, for which they had to apply to the Costas to authorize the repair. The answer they received was a demolition order. Late last year, they lost their case, and last week machinery arrived to begin the demolition. Continued on page 8
