Shipwreck on the rise THE SAME sea that swallowed the Phoenician in a storm some 2,700 years ago, seems to want to spit it out again. by Keith Nicol
THE PHOENICIAN shipwreck is located just off the beach at La Isla and is sitting in only 1.8 meters of water. That is about four meters less than when it was first discovered twenty-five years ago. been considered: remove and exhibit the ship in a ‘Dry’ museum or a building with a concrete and glass casket to show the ‘in situ’ ship. Conservation of the wreck would be handed to the Arqua scuba professionals in Cartagena.
The last major overhaul of the Phoenician ship was made in 2008 when a team from Arqua revised and consolidated the most damaged parts of the ship. The steel cabinet that protects the wreck at the moment was also strengthened.
