Pet in tug of love by Jack Troughton BROKEN-HEARTED TEENAGERS Tiffany and Yasmin Kelleway are appealing for their grandmother to allow their dog to leave Spain and be reunited with his family in the UK. The tearful sisters are baffled over their older relation’s stubborn refusal to let Hector leave the Costa Blanca and travel to England to join the family in Loughborough. They returned home a year ago with their other pet Blue, a Great Dane, but Hector was unable to travel because of an error in his documents, and after a time in kennels, entrusted to their grandmother’s care. A specialised animal transport company has been paid for his journey but the dog remains at the grandmother’s home just outside Orba. And family friend Susan Wright has attempted to negotiate between both sides but failed to convince Gillian Kelleway she should release the Dalmatian from the ‘dognap’ situation. Yesterday (Thursday) Gillian told RTN she did not know what the girls were talking about. “I do not understand because my son gave him to me – I have had him since before Christmas.” But the girls said they were distressed and upset by the whole “sad, sad story” after dad Anthony found a new job in the UK, allowing them the opportunity to become elite athletes at Loughborough College.

Hector

PROBLEM Tiffany, 17, said Hector first went into kennels in Jalon while waiting the correct paperwork. “We were looking forward to having him home for Christmas but then there was another problem with the transport.” She said the kennels could not keep Hector any longer and they decided he should stay

with friends but her grandmother volunteered to look after him “She said that way we would know he was in good hands – we thought it was a great idea and everything would be OK.” Tiffany said the journey to the UK was cancelled again. “Gran said ‘don’t worry’ and Hector was a good dog and it would be

a shame to see him go but everything still seemed perfect.” Three weeks ago, she said her father rang Gillian. “When I came home he said Gran said we couldn’t have him back because we had abandoned him. It was extremely upsetting – I was shocked and very upset. Continued on page 3
