by Keith Nicol MAY 25th is Election Day for MEP’s and the European Union. For many EU Spanish based residents, an air of apathy prevails but in fact, especially in Spain, EU money is what funds thousands of projects from road enhancements, to health services, new building and facilities, education, culture and sport, along with MEP’s trying their best to protect your rights.
On Tuesday, MEP and Partido Popular Party candidate for the European Parliament, Eva Ortiz, stressed today that the PP “believes and works for a common area of opportunity for all European citizens, regardless of their place of residence or of work.” Eva Ortiz was speaking exclusively to the Alicante based foreign press representatives, with whom she discussed the main proposals of the electoral program of the PP for next European legislature. Eva referred to the large number of European citizens
who work and live, or have retired to the Alicante region. She said, “There are 297,808 Europeans living in Alicante from EU states,” of whom 56,341 have registered their desire to vote on May 25th. In the Valencian Community there are a total of 495,473 EU citizens, providing one of the strongest multicultural mixes to be found anywhere outside of major cities, in SEE PAGE 34 Europe.
