Gone are the days of worrying about having your car keys, wallet, purse, mobile phone, kindle, tablet or belongings stolen while you go for a swim as now you can securely lock up your things yet access and lock them away, time and time again. The innovative idea has been two years in the planning and permission stages and the first such unit was opened for business this week on La Glea Beach. The entrepreneurs behind the project are Koen Mortelmans and Jef Van Hyfte from Belgium, two
very successful businessmen from the world of event management. Jef said, “I was swimming one day in La Mata and my girlfriend mentioned that wouldn’t it be a good idea if we had somewhere to safely leave our stuff while we went for a swim. And thus, the idea was born.” The lockers operate from 10.00am until 9.00pm everyday, are powered by solar energy and allow you to open and close your locker, to access it as often as you wish for just a 5€ rental charge. The unit takes coins or credit/ debit cards, has an information touch screen and after depositing your money, a unique token is provided along with a wrist band; a locker opens and this is yours for the day.
