Protest banners were fastened to the school’s railings during the demonstration
MORE THAN a hundred parents held a demonstration at the Virgen del Carmen Primary School in Torrevieja to protest about the disgraceful state of the school’s building. Huge cracks in the walls of the primary school were identified as early as 2003, just eight years
by Louise Clarke after it was built and still nothing has been done to rectify the situation. Parents were accompanied by their children at the protest; some of whom were wearing safety helmets to demonstrate
that they feel the building is unsafe. The protest was organised by the school’s parents’ association (APA). The parents made it perfectly clear how they felt about the situation at the school and displayed banners on the school’s fences. They also chanted slogans
such as: “This school is a wreck” and “Do this for our children.” The Valencian Eductation Department will decide later this month whether to allocate funds to repair the cracks and damage to the school building. Continued on page 3
