Pedro Mancebo with mosquito invested pile of cuttings in the park

LA REGIA Park on the Orihuela Costa has been the subject of many a RTN article; with petitions, protests and promises made by the Town Hall in Orihuela to get the park looking like a decent green area which locals and tourists alike would like to visit. Last week, the Coastal Town Hall’s Officer for Foreign Residents, Stefan Pokroppa, was interviewed by a local radio station. During the interview, Mr Pokroppa said that the Town Hall was spending €1,600 on maintaining the park on a monthly basis and since April’s Town Hall ‘pleno’ meeting, where it was unanimously agreed by all the Coun-

by Louise Clarke cillors that money be spent on improving the park, the Town Hall had been planting new plants and shrubs and the park was “… a very nice green area at disposal of all the citizens.” Following his comments a war of words has ensued between Mr Pokroppa and Alan McPhail, who has been campaigning for park improvements for over a year. Statements have been issued and photos printed

to contradict what Mr Pokroppa said during his radio interview, but rather than just print the statements and photos, RTN took a trip down to the park to see for itself the state that it is in. Having visited the park on numerous occasions, RTN has to say that it has to give Mr Pokroppa his dues, the area furthest away from the N332, which no-one can see has been improved with new plants, trees and bushes. But, and this is the crux of it, the area closest to the road, where the dangerously dilapidated football pitches are located, is still as bad as ever. continued on page 3
