Footwork Fantastic The recent Footwork Dance Academy Show at the Casa de Cultura in San Miguel de Salinas raised 888€ in aid of the APAH charity. The audience was treated to several brilliant performances by the Footwork dancers and Alan Warden wowed with his vocal talent and guitar playing skills. See page 20 for the full story.

THE TORREVIEJA Town Hall has been given a total of 730,000€ from the Valencian government to generate jobs within the municipality. It is hoped that more than 70 positions will be created as a result of the various grants and amongst the projects that will be undertaken is the refurbishment of the green area on Avenida de la Asunción in Los Balcones. The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolon, announced the grants, which come courtesy of Joesph Cisco, the Director of the Ministry of Education, Training and Employment of the Generalitat Valenciana, at a press conference earlier this week. The Mayor said that 72 registered unemployed residents of Torrevieja will benefit from the four different initiatives, one of which is the ‘Mediterranean Employment Workshop VI’ project that includes a grant of 569,454.90€ and is intended for training expenses. SOCIAL INTEGRATION The duration of the ‘Mediterranean Employment

Workshop VI’ project will be one year and will give employment to 30 residents registered at the SERVEF office in Torrevieja. The 30 residents will include unemployed people and students and the workshop will be divided into the fields of gardening, cleaning graffiti, paving and archiving. Among the projects to be undertaken include the completion of the refurbishment of the Green Zone located in the Los Balcones Urbanisation. Similarly, the Town Hall has been awarded an IDF Workshop for Immigrants, called ‘Vehicle Driver C1C’. This workshop is for 10 students, who have heavy goods transport experience and has been subsidised with 45,000€. It was also announced that a 75,000€ grant has been awarded to the Town Hall for female victims of violence, for the realisation of the ‘Comprehensive Employment Plan Against Gender Violence’, which will be eligible for 30 female victims of domestic violence.
