Domestic Violence: Help at Hand

by Keith Nicol THE SPANISH authorities take a zero tolerance approach to domestic violence. Any woman subjected to such activity need only phone the special National Domestic Violence Hotline Number 061 and for professional advice and the support issues available. Yesterday, Thursday 29th November the British Consulate held an event with the SubDelegación del Gobierno to ensure that British nationals are aware of all of the possible areas of support in cases of domestic violence. More than sixty representitives of the International and Spanish community organi-

sations attended the event which was planned to coincide with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women which takes place each year on 25th November. The event was chaired by the British Consul, Paul Rodwell, the Delegada del Gobierno, Paula Sánchez de León Guardiola and the Subdelegado del gobierno, Alberto Martínez Díaz. The first objective of this campaign is to advise everyone of support available and eliminate any stigma around the issue and encourage victims to denounce and remove themselves from situations of risk or danger.
