THE PARK was established in 1972, purely as a campsite to begin with, back in the Franco era, when Torrevieja’s population did not even reach into five figures. The park developed but found itself in a grey area, as many mobile caravans were replaced by single and double mobile homes, with even an apartment block and other permanent facilities added over time. MiSol is now a Park Comunidad de Propietarios, or a community of owners, rather than an Urbanisation, and although they have a community President, their lack of an administrator is leading to many problems for the residents. When the community was designed in the 70’s Iberdola only supplied the park with one main power line, meaning that ever since, the community themselves have had to then sub lease power to each owner, something that has widely been abused over the years, and is reportedly costing them more than 2,000€ per month from those

that know how to exploit the system. The park turned to RTN to highlight their plight because of a situation that has arisen due to the influx of immigrants, who have set up an enclave on the Park. At the moment, there are close to 100 people, living in four caravans. Allegedly they pay rent to one owner, who herself owes the community over 80,000€ in maintenance charges, which in itself threatens to bankrupt the community. Denuncias have been presented and although Court Cases have been won, she still refuses to pay, using the court of appeal to keep extending paying anything to the community. However, the main issue that the residents have is with the immigrants, whom they have issued deuncias against. Of major concern is that their main source of income is from recycling metal, where it has been reported to RTN that they have been smuggling in fridges, washing machines, doors and gates and any other metal items, grinding them down, dismantling them and selling them for scrap value.
