FOR THE last terms of office, Torrevieja’s opposition parties have put constant pressure on the governing Partido Popular to supply financial records going back more than a dozen years to pick out whatever they can to try and score a few political points. However, the boot suddenly changed feet last month as the PP asked the opposition parties to also come clean and provide their own financial records and list their expenses, as has been asked of Eduardo Dolon’s team. Of the opposition parties, only the Greens have complied and, without any fuss, provided their financial records. However, both the PSOE and newly established APTCe have yet to provide their records, as required. PP team spokesman, the Councillor for Government and Finance in the city of Torrevieja , Joaquín Albaladejo, reports that the Finance Commission is still awaiting the records from these two opposition parties, as agreed at the last Plenary Meeting in August. Albaladejo said that “the behaviour of some groups expressing opposition to this order seems to have serious implications on the possible fate of public money for private purposes. This has been done to provide a sense of clarity and transparency in all matters relating to public money, having established that the opposition parties constantly applies the principles of legality in the management of public money from the municipal government.” He continued “The only municipal opposition group that has submitted its accounts is the Greens. The municipal government can not support a joint motion of the opposition based on lies and concealment of data required by municipal officers and the Court of Auditors for the period between the years 2009-2013.” Joaquín Albaladejo highlighted the fact that the PP has been the only party in the city of Torrevieja, to have appeared publicly in court on two occasions to prove that it has filed on time all the accounting documents that opposition parties have requested, as well as extracts of accounts required by municipal intervention.
