JOSÉ MANUEL DOLON, Mayor of Torrevieja has warned local journalists not to publish any confidential information that they might have sourced from the Town Hall. As far as anyone can remember, it’s the first time in 36 years of democracy that any Torrevieja Mayor has signalled out the Press and issued a warning to them of being denounced to the Police. However, within 30 days of taking power, the Mayor has threatened to denounce journalists who publish anything confidential to do with the new garbage collection contract for the city. In historical terms, garbage collection was what put José Manuel Dolon name on the political map. His main claim to fame is being the main protagonist in the conviction of former Mayor Pedro Hernandez Mateo for not going through the correct processes in awarding the multi-million euro contract for garbage removal and cleaning in the city.
