Project: Girls will each build a paper airplane, then compete in a group challenge measuring distance and accuracy. Objective: Girls will discover the 4 forces of flight through building a paper airplane and competing in a team challenge. Materials: Paper, markers, pencils, and crayons Directions: 1. Each girl will receive a piece of paper to create an airplane. Give them an opportunity to test the design, girls can go back to redesign. 2. Girls can have a few minutes to color and write their name on their plane design. 3. Make a safe open space in the room and create a target on the wall with point values and create distance measurements on the floor with tape. Girls can help you create this. 4. Girls will work with a partner, or in groups of 3 in a team challenge. They will each test their plane with the target and distance challenge 3 times, taking the best of 3 tries. They can make changes to their airplane design between tries. Each team will add up their score for target and distance. Each team should create their own measurement sheet before beginning.
