The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest achievement in Girl Scouting.

The Girl Scout Gold Award acknowledges the recipient’s dedication to not only empowering and bettering themself, but to making the world a better place for others as well. Gold Award Girl Scouts have proven they are courageous leaders and visionary change-makers capable of leaving a sustainable legacy in their communities, throughout New York City, and beyond.

Earning the Girl Scout Gold Award indelibly marks a person as a distinguished and influential member of their community, an expert problem solver, and a creative innovator. All of our 2022 Awardees will undoubtably continue to make Girl Scouts of Greater New York proud with all they accomplish.

At Girl Scouts, we strive to support girls in building courage, confidence, and character, and in making the world a better place. The remarkable young people we celebrate this evening are shining examples of these ideals. We are proud to bestow on them, the Girl Scout Gold Award.

Earning the Gold Award is no easy feat any year, but this year we celebrate 49 New York City Girl Scouts who persevered through remarkable circumstances and found a way to make an impact at a time the world needed it most.

Colby Alfieri MANHATTAN Scoliosis Story to Support Teens Colby’s project worked as a resource for comfort and education around scoliosis. It targeted an audience of teenagers with experiences of scoliosis and possible spinal fusion surgeries.

Olivia Bagan MANHATTAN The Voter EducationRegistrationProject Olivia educated young people about the voting process and worked with organizations such as Next Generation Politics to dive further into her research and reach out to a broader audience. Aspen Bailey BROOKLYN COVID Youth Outreach Aspen’s project addressed economic and social-emotional issues faced by adolescents during the pandemic by starting a donation site for remote learning supplies and mental health toolkits.

Jade Angel BROOKLYN I’ve Been There Jade’s project focused on the prevalence of eating disorders in teenagers, specifically addressing the isolation young people feel while navigating disordered relationships with food and their bodies. Agnes Au BROOKLYN Exhale Through Art Agnes’s project focused on educating teenagers about art therapy and how it can be used to help relieve teen stress through creative activities.

Jocelyn Belena MANHATTAN Exploring the Hudson Valley and Beyond Jocelyn built a website to educate people on how to get outdoors to bike, ski, and hike in the Hudson Valley.

On my honor, I will try: To serve God* and my country, To help people at all times, And to live by the Girl Scout Law. *Members may substitute for the word God in accordance with their own spiritual beliefs.

Christin Albertus BROOKLYN Girls’ Love in America Christin’s project focused on empowering young girls to be proud of who they are. She created an app and blog that promoted self-love among girls through dance and art expression.

Meghan Bernardy QUEENS Inspiring Opportunities Meghan partnered with GallopNYC to create volunteer opportunities for high school students in the field of horsemanship. Award Girl Scouts

Alyssa Connelly QUEENS Bee Kind to Pollinators

Tanaya expressed the importance of voting to the residents of her community. She created pamphlets about the Freedom Riders and the ways in which they played a part in the voting rights movement.

Olivia Fanciullo STATEN ISLAND Bird Coops – Clay Pit Ponds State Park Preserve Olivia addressed the issue of environmental safety for domesticated birds by building a shelter to protect them from the elements, predators, and the spread of disease.

QUEENS Behind the Mask: The Real Me Alyssa’s project emphasized the importance of mental health by spotlighting different women and each of their experiences with their own mental health.

Juliet Homes MANHATTAN Trash Talking Juliet’s project focused on the need for healthy foods in her community. During the pandemic, she began raising chickens and providing the eggs to individuals in her community.

Alyssa created a website to raise awareness about the importance of pollinators, and led educational workshops on the topic at the Voelker Orth Museum and at Camp Kaufmann.

Hayley Bond STATEN ISLAND Mental Health Awareness Hayley’s project provided a resource list of supportive phone numbers and locations to teens in her community who struggle with mental health.

Abby Lee QUEENS Project Health Awareness Abby addressed her community’s need for face masks at the height of the pandemic by making 200+ masks for essential workers.

Solange Matthews BROOKLYN Solange’s Baking Blog Solange created a website that shared a wealth of baking knowledge and education through a series of videos.

Katherine Chuliver MANHATTAN The Climate Guardians Katherine created an online comic book about climate change for elementary school students, as well as a curriculum for troop leaders and teachers with age-appropriate climate activism activities.

Brynn Heller MANHATTAN Helping Hudson Canyon Brynn created a video and a petition to support the designation of the Hudson Canyon as a National Marine Sanctuary. The video currently has 1,739 views, and the petition currently has 234 signatures.

Kaylah Frazier BRONX Mayday Emerg-astrophe-ivorMayday Kit Kaylah’s project focused on the importance of preparing and protecting families against natural disasters by creating disaster emergency kits.

Eva Lu MANHATTAN SOAR: OpportunitiesScience and Resources Eva created a website compiling over 55 free STEM opportunities to help Title I high school students in NYC access STEM education that meets their interests.

Celine Lacmanen BRONX L.E.A.D Celine organized virtual workshops for teens to help them develop self-esteem and healthy coping mechanisms.

STATEN ISLAND Reluctant Readers Madison created a program through the New York Public Library to help adolescents find a passion for literature and teach them about the importance of reading.

Samantha Dong MANHATTAN Let’s Grow A STEM Together Samantha created a website that provided resources for girls interested in applying for STEM programs in NYC and lead several classes for girls in grades 3-5 that included fun and engaging STEM activities.

Danielle Gandelman QUEENS Seeds of Change Danielle created an interactive curriculumrecyclingthatincluded ecofriendly crafts. This program reached schools, Girl Scout troops, and community centers.

STATEN ISLAND The Healing Power of Poetry Alyssa’s project centered on the positive effects of using creativity as a healthy coping mechanism when dealing with mental health struggles.

Laura created College Connections, a program in which alumni from her school spoke with current students about their experiences at college.

Kendall Sladky BROOKLYN The NeighborhoodPURRfect Solution Kendall’s project helped address the feral cat issue in many neighborhoods by sheltering, feeding, and caring for the cats.

Ajaiyah Oladeinde BROOKLYN Consensual Ajaiyah created a Webtoon that raised awareness around issues of sexual harassment and sexual assault for male and female victims.

Elizabeth created a video game that follows New York State’s first grade social studies curriculum on economics, teaching financial literacy skills to children in a way that is engaging and fun.

Deanna Soukhaseum MANHATTAN Collective Harmony Deanna wrote a series of articles and created a website to inform people about the different cultures in her community, and to promote inclusion and acceptance.

Kennedy Patrick BROOKLYN Literacy for Kids Beyond Today Kennedy partnered with her local library to promote children’s literacy. She collected books from the community for donation and led storytime activities to get kids excited about reading.

Stephanie’s project focused on the importance of family healthy eating by creating an informative website and activity books for parents and children to read and learn from.

Tilda Sutter MANHATTAN The Democracy Project Tilda worked within her school to increase civic engagement. She created a Students for Democracy Club as well as resources for phone banking and volunteering during the 2020 elections.

Tiffany Smith BROOKLYN Lit 4 Kids Tiffany held literacy sessions on Zoom with children at a school in Barbados, and encouraged engagement by providing incentives for those who participated.

Shari Taylor BRONX Don’t Give in to Peer Pressure Shari provided education on the impact peer pressure can have on a community helped those who have experienced peer pressure develop cooperation and team-building skills.

Brianna Shea STATEN ISLAND Bags for Babies Brianna helped provide childcare necessities to single mothers in a local community home by creating and supplying residents with diaper bags.

Argiroula Monioudis BROOKLYN Helping the Homeless of NYC AgainstProtectCOVID Argiroula focused on helping people experiencing homelessness in NYC protect themselves against COVID-19. She worked with her Girl Scout troop and local volunteers to make reusable face masks.

Natalia Small BROOKLYN Art Therapy for Kids: Improve Mind and Motor Natalia helped children ages 5-16 develop their art skills in the midst of the pandemic, while incorporating art therapy practices which also aided in developing their motor skills.

Grace Stuart MANHATTAN The Buddy Bench Project Grace’s project helps to connect children who may be feeling isolated due to facing domestic violence problems at home.

Athina Protonentis BROOKLYN Jump into Shape Athina’s project focused on getting children excited about being healthy. She created a program that teaches children how to have fun while exercising and eating healthy.

Jordan Wollney STATEN ISLAND Knitting for Charity Jordan created a series of video tutorials teaching people how to knit and sew, and donated all the items she made while shooting the videos to a local charity.

Aija Wint BROOKLYN Showers of Love Aija collected childcare supplies to donate to young mothers, helping to address a growing concern of infant mortality rates.

Iris Wu QUEENS Stress? What’s That? Iris hosted three stress management workshops on anxiety and coping mechanisms for Girl Scouts and caregivers in her community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hailey Vicente QUEENS Welcome to the Troop 6000 Family Hailey created a video featuring original Troop 6000 members welcoming incoming Girl Scouts. They shared their experiences of living in the shelter system and of being Girl Scouts.

Anne Wallar MANHATTAN Remembrance Book for Nursing Home Residents Anne created a memory book to address the issue of limited social interaction in senior homes, containing photos of local scenery, people, attractions, and events for residents to enjoy.

Hannah Vinson MANHATTAN Single Useless Plastics Hannah interviewed artists and Council Members who work with single use plastics and created a school art curriculum to teach kids about plastic consumption.

Kylie Wong QUEENS Upward Girl Kylie created a website, YouTube channel, and webinar series to teach girls how to accept and grow from their failures, gain confidence, and become less regretful so they can pursue their passions.

Yasmine Yavinsky QUEENS Embracing Change: Navigating Challenging Issues Through Dialogue Yasmine addressed the lack of communication regarding social justice issues by providing resources to young teens, hoping to inspire them to implement dialogue in their own communities.

Katherine Yenna BROOKLYN Travel Safety Responsibilityand Katie’s project educated young people about the importance of traveling safely, encouraged people to travel, and helped make the process more accessible for people who have never traveled before.

To earn the Gold Award, Girl Scouts must design and implement a sustainable solution to a real-world problem. Through the rigorous process, they learn to think strategically, motivate others, persevere through setbacks, and lead — as it says in the Girl Scouts’ mission — with courage, confidence, and character.
