Why Girl Scout Camp? Girl Scout camp is a place where girls get to try new things and overcome fears while gaining confidence and independence. It’s where girls will make new friends in an environment just for girls. It’s where girls get to be Go-getters, Innovators, Risk-takers and Leaders. It’s where girls camp like a G.I.R.L.! Thank you to our summer camp sponsors as of November 30, 2018, for helping to provide new and exciting adventures for the girls. We appreciate our corporate and foundation sponsors including Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation; Spirit AeroSystems, Inc.; Cargill; Mosby Lincoln Foundation; Emporia Community Foundation – Clint Bowyer 79 Fund; Juliette’s Pearls Leadership Society; and individual donors, Dee Rolph, Anita Jones, Joan Wagner and Ryan Doll for supporting the girls as they explore the world around them in an environment created just for them.

Take this quiz and find out! Circle the answer that best describes how you feel. Add each circled number and check your answer range at the bottom of the page. 1 = No Way!

2 = Maybe

3 = You bet!

Do you enjoy staying overnight at a friend’s house? Can you shampoo, brush your hair and walk to a nearby building to brush your teeth and use the bathroom? Do you enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, sports, sleeping in a tent and listening to the sounds of nature? Can you go without a phone, TV and video games for an extended amount of time? Can you see a daddy long legs, bugs or mice without running around and shrieking? Can you make your own bed and keep track of your things? Do you like to meet new people and do things with other girls, not just your best friend? Are you ready to sleep in a tent with three or more other girls knowing your counselors are nearby? Are you willing to help with camp responsibilities like sweeping your tent, setting tables and picking up trash? Are you REALLY excited about going to camp?

THE RESULTS! 10 - 16 You might enjoy a day camp, but it may be a good idea to wait until next year for a resident or overnight camp. 17 - 23 You would probably like a mini resident camp, troop camping or a family program with a buddy. 24 - 30 You’re an experienced camper! It sounds like you are ready for a resident camp stay of multiple days.

Camp Wordsearch Camping is a fun outdoor activity that provides a chance to explore nature, stargaze, climb to new heights and zip line, ride horses, and make memories over the campfire with Girl Scout sisters. Watch out for canoeing, and fishing, and hiking, oh my! They're spelled forwards, backwards, diagonally, and up and down.

Types of Camp Experiences BIG CHANGE! Camper Eligibility

Campers are now eligible to attend camps that are for the grade they are going into! For example, a girl who is going into second grade can attend camps that are for or include Brownies. A girl who is going into fourth grade can choose from camps in the Junior age range.

Master Campers

This two-week camp is exclusively for older girls ready for an extended stay in the great outdoors. That’s right, you will get to stay 12 nights at Camp Four Winds enjoying the beautiful views, primitive campsites, and sisterhood while building outdoor skills. This exclusive camp provides the opportunity to work with and ride horses (weather permitting). We are looking for master campers who are responsible Girl Scouts that have thrived in previous camp environments. We will build new skills, work hard, and play harder!

Resident Camp*

Is your camper a Junior or older? She can eat, sleep, and live the camp life for a full week, from Sunday evening through Friday evening. She will choose from activities that will help to build her life skills along with outdoor skills, boating, shooting sports, horses, and much more. During the week, she will earn badges, practice camp skills, and cook over the campfire, with plenty of time for swimming, relaxing, and getting to know her new camp friends. Campers will be staying in primitive campsites which include, platform tents, yurts, tents and new this year, Chipette nests (elevated, covered platforms that allow for Flint Hill breezes). Girls can request to be in the same unit as up to two friends at registration. We will do our best to keep troops together. Troop leaders who are interested in attending as camp chaperones should contact the GSKH office. Limited volunteer opportunities are available.

Mini Resident Camp*

This option is for Brownies and up who would like to try out the resident camp experience without staying the full week. Campers arrive Sunday evening for opening ceremonies, and spend four days and three nights swimming, playing, learning, and earning badges. Your camper can choose from activities such as arts and crafts, shooting sports, high adventure (at our Starwoods Camp), boating and much more to fill her days with the activities that interest her. Campers will be staying in cabins or platform tents (depending on the location) and can request to be in the same unit as up to two friends at registration. We will do our best to keep troops together. Troop leaders who are interested in attending as camp chaperones should contact the GSKH office. Limited volunteer opportunities are available.

*TRANSPORTATION will be provided to specified camps from and back to any of the GSKH regional offices (excluding Wichita) for groups of six or more. Select this option at registration, you will be informed two weeks before camp if the minimum number has been met.

Troop Camp

If your troop would like to go to camp together, troop camp is a great option! Troop leaders and/or troop support volunteers must register and attend to meet adult-to-girl camping ratios for their troop. You will arrive Friday evening and depart Sunday morning. Troops will spend evenings and overnights together, and during the day, girls will work towards badges and also participate in traditional camp activities such as: shooting sports, swimming, arts & crafts, and more. Troops will be camping in tents and cooking some meals outdoors so they should plan to bring their own tents, camping gear, and outdoor cooking equipment.

Day Camps

For Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors who prefer a day camp experience, day camps are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., with busing provided from and back to the Wichita Girl Scout office each day. Day campers can choose from a variety of activities depending on their age and interest including swimming, archery, climbing, team building, and boating. JANUARY 2019
