Will Dellaway takes the prize

Winning logo design

The Beerwah Sportsground Management Committee Inc (BSMC) recently ran a school-based competition to encourage emerging graphic artists to create a design for the new association’s logo.

Last week, year six student Will Dellaway from Glasshouse Christian College was presented with a certificate and $100 in prize money for his brilliant effort in designing the committee’s new logo, which will now feature on its letterhead, advertising and sponsorship promotion.

Helen Weil from BSMC said the management committee ran the competition to attract talented young local artists and/or computer whizzes willing to take on the challenge.

The design needed to be of a general nature with a focus on being active and being a community.

It also needed to encompass and be representative of all of the involved groups plus those that may become users in the future, and feature a representation of the Glass House Mountains.

“As a multi-sporting club facility, the design brief was a tall order and required some serious thought, but we believed that there were some young and very talented designers in the school communities so we were happy to put it out to our local young people,” Helen said.

The competition closed at the end of August and the winner was decided at the following BSMC meeting earlier this month.

Helen said that originally the design prize money offered was $50 but to acknowledge the extra efforts that Will undertook to tweak the final product, the committee decided to surprise him at the presentation assembly with an additional $50.

“Will did an excellent job and included some extra changes that we asked for. He is a lovely young gentleman and with his extra efforts we were happy to give him $100 as a show of our appreciation,” Helen said.
