Business News Grants available for small business Applications are open for grants for small and medium sized businesses to support more local Queensland companies to grow and create more jobs. Minister for Employment and Small Business Shannon Fentiman announced that Queensland businesses could apply for the latest round of grants from the Small Business Entrepreneur Grants Program and from the Business Growth Fund. “We want to help kick start our local businesses in their early stages and continue to support them to grow sustainably with expert advice and support,” Ms Fentiman said. “Our entrepreneur grants assist some of our state’s newest small businesses by giving them the vital support they need when they are just starting out with grants of up to $5,000.” Past recipients of the grants have used the funds to engage a business consultant to improve sales and profitability. “Our Business Growth Fund targets small and medium sized businesses who are already established and looking to take their businesses to the next level with funding of up to $50,000,” Ms Fentiman said. “To make it easier for small businesses to apply for our fantastic grants we are also releasing our schedule for upcoming grants for this financial year,” she said. “This is based on feedback I heard while meeting with local business owners across the state as part of my small business budget roadshow recently. “We want to make it as easy as possible for more businesses to apply for our grants so we can help them to grow and create more jobs.” Upcoming business grant funding is open for three grants for Small Business Artisan Producers, with applications closing on August 22, and the Small Business Entrepreneur Grants, which close on August 30. The Business Growth Fund will remain open until the budget is fully allocated. Another round of the Small Business Digital Grants will open on November 11 and close on December 10. Great teamwork pays off

The War on Waste Glasshouse Country group (WOWGC) is on a mission to reduce waste locally by spreading positive and useful messages, advocating for change and hands-on action. There are 12 businesses in Beerwah Marketplace and Beerwah Village shopping centre that sell take-away drinks, so WOWGC was keen to see customers given a recycling option. Thanks to some great team work between Beerwah Marketplace management, the Scout Recycling Centre, along with WOWGC team members there are now four red bins dedicated to the recycling of drink containers in place at the shopping centre. There is one bin between Fresh & Save and CJ’s Bakery, one between Mrs Browns and Kebab Haven, one outside Banjos and another outside Smokey’s Chargrill. The bins have been in place for over a week and WOWGC spokesperson Hanna Brandli said she was pretty chuffed seeing the final product. Hanna has already checked on the bins and people are definitely using them, which is great. Hannah said the containers would be collected by Scout Recycling as required and they will provide a payment back to the WOWGC group, who plan to use the funds for other community initiatives.

Hannah and Lorraine checking that shoppers have been using the new bins Lorraine Cooper, who works for the shopping centre management, will monitor and empty the bins, and is keen to ensure they are in the best possible locations for shoppers.
