Grey is an evocative colour - it can uncover memories of the sky before rain, the coldness of a concrete, shadows in the night or the skin tone of a black and white photograph. It is complex yet neutral colour with significant cultural, scientific and colour theory properties.
In the exhibition Greyscale artists Peter Burgess, Julia Davis, Adrian Gebers, Pollyxenia Joannou, Lisa Jones present a personal response to theories connected to the colour grey.
For the artists in Greyscale, this sense of in-between-ness and anticipation assuages a logical space for investigation of both the colour grey and its place in the cultural imaginary. Grey is used here to rework how we perceive matter, how we embody place, the ways in which we encounter, remember or retrace time and remnants of existence.
