CREATIVE AGEING FESTIVAL OTHER GLASS HOUSES with DAVID DEGUISTINO

Monday 4 April, 5pm GLASS as a component of the “decorative arts” has enjoyed a long history - but glass as a component or architecture is a modern development. This illustrated talk will examine all these examples, and go on to look at the stunning use of ‘plate glass’ in 20th century pavilions, office blocks and private homes. YOUNG AT HEART SHORT FILM FESTIVAL Wednesday 6 April, 11am to 12.30pm Watch some cracking short Australian films starring veteran Aussie actors. This festival will feature the premiere of the local short documentary Split Seconds from the Sound of Music, a Uniting project starring cast members from the local community and Mingaletta. 2016 THE BIG CHAT 1 DAY SYMPOSIUM Thursday 7 April, 9.30am to 4.30pm The Big Chat is a day of presentations and workshops to stimulate conversations about ‘perceptions of ageing’. This insightful day will explore a variety of ways to use creative activities, such as painting, music, singing, dancing, drama, storytelling, poetry and photography, to exercise the mind and the spirit. All the arts activities discussed during the day can be mastered at home, during a hospital stay or in an aged care facility. CLASSICAL SONG VIRTUOSOS Meeting with resounding success and acclaim, Voci Stupende is an opera troupe with a difference. Made up of young, dynamic performers recently graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, they will take you on a superbly crafted musical journey, presenting a varied repertoire of solos, duets, trios and ensemble pieces to stir every emotion. Lost images from Australia’s First Conflict - the fall of German New Guinea Until 24 April Thomas James Rodoni’s glass plate negatives were unearthed from under a house in Speers Point by Rodoni’s son Bill, and given to Cultural Collections at the University of Newcastle in 2014 – one hundred years after the start of WW1. This extremely rare collection documents the first military conflict of the First War, the fall of German New Guinea, an engagement that witnessed the first casualties of WW1. DRAWN TO A CABINET OF CURIOSITIES: Jennifer Keeler-Milne Until 24 April In this stunning exhibition of exquisite drawings inspired by the wunderkammer, Keeler-Milne explores the beauty of our world. Keeler-Milne’s artwork has been selected for nine Dobell Prize for Drawing exhibitions and she is represented in Australia’s largest drawing collections. Come in an marvel at the wonder of nature with the exquisite drawings of Jennifer Keeler-Milne or the riotous colours of Julie Paterson’s Cloth: from Seed to Bloom. And for a blast of colour and fun, don’t miss the Strutt Sisters exhibition of multi-media assemblage with its joyous and humorous use of colour and form. We are opening our Artlab doors and invite you to come in, get inspired and get your hands dirty with a drawing workshop and a fabric printing workshop this Autumn.
